What Roz, CEO of Cat Haven, had to say:⁠
"Before we had the Therian condos here, we had very open runs and a lot less than we’ve currently got. It was just fraught with issues. Once a cat sneezed, every cat in the whole shed would sneeze, or if someone touched a cat that had ringworm, it would be transmitted all the way through, and cat flu was our biggest problem in here. ⁠

The introduction of the Therian condos in this place was a complete game changer. We saw flu reduced to ZERO and Therian's CEO Gavin told me that this would happen, and I didn’t quite believe him. But overnight we went from having 10, 20, 30% of cats with flu to absolutely zero." 🐾⁠

Let's dive into what you need to think about and how to go about it when you're planning to build a new animal shelter. We'll focus on figuring out how many animals you should be able to house, using a statistical approach that considers things like past intakes, outcomes, and the demographics of your area.

We'll also show you some examples to help you understand how to calculate the average time animals stay at the shelter and how that affects how many animals you can handle and the daily costs involved.

Finally, we'll explore how you can use these animal capacity requirements and some smart organisation tactics to estimate the size your shelter needs to be and get started on setting up a budget for the construction project.
