Here at Ranger Reds, we have a great collection of animals and we love to encourage our visitors to experience them close up. One of the opportunities we have for our visitors is the "Keeper for a Da" experience. Designed for youngsters between 8 and 16 its a great way to immerse them in the Zoo, its collection and experience a real behind the scenes walk around with our helpful keepers.
Dropping them off before 10am and collecting them after 3pm also allows Mums and Dads to have a few hours to yourselves.

Perth Royal Show
Today is the day the Perth Royal Show starts. With its usual wide range of attractions available, Redz Zoo is just one amongst them - though we do have a great display (if I say so myself!).
Come to the Clairmont Show grounds over the next week and say hello to Red and the Team in the Nursery, then go around the other displays to see some of the amazing things other peple around the state are doing.

Quinton, The Redz Zoo Quokka!
Here we have Quinton our Quokka doing Quokka stuff in his enclosure. The Quokka (Setonix brachyurus) is often described as the worlds happiest animal because of the persistantly happy look thery have on their faces. Herbivores, they are about the size of a domestic cat. The name comes from the Noongar word for them "Kwoka".
While we here in WA see them quite easily - especially if we tavel to Rottnest they are described as "vulnerable" due to the effects of habitat erosion, and the effect of foreign fauna such as cats and foxes which predate the population. We have a fairly stable population on Rottnest and small pockets can be found on the mainland as well.

Ranger Red was out at the Northam Agricultural Society this weekend with Nigel Spencer and Jyden's reptile removal's. The Zoo is gearing up to be ready for the Perth Royal Show currently and we look forward to having a great show for our visitors there again this year.

In many of the cages at the zoo, we have multiple critters when they can safely cohabit and Ryder the Koala shares his cage with a couple of our Bettongs. This one here is the baby of the bunch and usually can be found in the large hollow log which is in there. This was shot this morning as keeper Remi was cleaning the enclosure before most of the visitors arrived.

Niall is introducing Walter the Woma Python. We are grateful to Michael of Perenjori who came up with the name at the show there recently.
Walter is a Woma Python, also known as a Sand Python (Aspidites ramsayi), a non-venomous snake species native to arid regions of Australia. These pythons are characterized by their distinctive appearance, featuring a pattern of light and dark bands that aids in camouflage among sandy environments. With an average length of 4 to 5 feet, Walter is likely an interesting example of this species, displaying the Woma Python's docile temperament and unique adaptability to desert habitats.

We have a few Rufous Bettongs on the park and they will often come out on displays with us. This is Bert and we were at @Bunnings Warehouse Victoria Park recently with him. This is a couple of little clips of Bert chomping on a bit of water melon.

I was working away in the office the other day as Maccaela opened the door to the lizards enclosure with a tray of food for them. (As I do) I grabbed the phone camera to grab a few seconds of this at Lizard level !
Last night Attfield Tavern Ranger red screened some of the Animals Abroad in which he featured bringing the Crocs back down to Pinjarra. It's also his birthday and heres the moment of truth with the cake cutting.
