It’s that time of year. I feel sick with worry yet excited to see the new babies that are due. It’s never an easy gig this breeding thing. My mares are so precious and yet, there is always that feeling I have bred this mare and that decision could cost her her life. A challenging time that honestly puts your heart in your mouth.

Very civil feed time at Wallbrook with our new addition who is on holiday/escape from the heat of NSW. Slow introductions are always easier and we want to thank Lynn Jenkin for entrusting us with Tineke of Twin Rivers to our family in Tasmania. Tineke is already basking in the gentle warmth of the Tasmanian weather and settling in well with her new Friesian Friends at Wallbrook Friesian Horse Stud.

🐴Jodie Mckeone Preparing for Harness Clinics 🐴
January 2024
Jodie Mckeone needs no introduction, but for those who don’t know harness driving in Australia, she is recognised as a legend.
Jodie comes from a family of excellent horsemen/women, having grown up training horses and many other animals for the Australian movie industry.
Jodie was an excellent rider, competing in Eventing, but her passion was always harness horses and more particularly, Combined Driving (driving’s version of 3 day Eventing). She has won many Australian Championships in Harness and taken out Melbourne Royal and Sydney Royal Easter Show Championships.
In 2023, Jodie got to fulfil her dream of competing for Australia as a Para driver at the 2023 FEI Para Driving World Championships in Exloo, The Netherlands, where she won the marathon phase took out the overall bronze medal for singles driving.
We are delighted to bring Jodie to Tasmania to run 2 x Two Day Clinics at Cygnet Riding Club over the 2024 Australia Day long weekend period.
These clinics are suitable for beginners right through to experienced harness people. The format of each clinic will allow for each participant to have 2 one on one lessons with Jodie each day. That is a total of 4 one on one lessons over the 2 day clinic. You will also be able to fence sit for every other lesson during the clinic. This is an invaluable format as you can learn from others as you watch.
What will Jodie be teaching?
These clinics are focused to teaching you and your horse what you need to know and work on in preparation for starting in harness. Longreining a horse in a bridle, introduction of winkers and harnessing are all options for your individual lessons.
Jodie may be happy to give a driving lesson to experienced harness drivers, but only on application and participants must be able to provide evidence of a suitable standard of driving with the horse they will be bringing.
No horses will be started in carriage at these clinics. The facilities are not available at Cygnet to do this safely.
As Jodie will be working with individual participants and their horses, your lesson can be tailored specifically to what your horse needs.
Places are limited and will only be secured by payment of a deposit.
