Our October Grower of the Month is...... Barry Jarman

Big congrats Barry Jarman on winning GOM for October your nutrients are on their way.

We asked Barry Jarman to tell us about is Airgarden journey so far. See what Barry Jarman said below:

1. Why did you decide to buy an Airgarden?

My wife found the airgarden online when looking about for a solution to growing our own vegetables and greens when living in a place with no usable garden.

2. When did you start growing?

We got our airgarden in mid 2022.

3. Why did you decide to start growing your own with Airgarden?

We wanted to get away from supermarket chain veg and herb costs.

4. How would you compare growing with the Airgarden to other forms of gardening e.g. soil?

For us, the airgarden now complements our inground gardening. The aeroponics style is brilliant for all our lettuces and fine herbs.
And as you can see in the pics, I have run vine veg and fruit from the bottom tiers onto trellis.

5. What are you growing at the moment?

At the moment we are growing a mixed bag of lettuce greens in the top 2 tiers.

From the lower tiers on one side, cucumbers run over to a trellis, which is producing plenty of fruit.

On the other low side we have at least 7-8 cherry tomato vines running to a trellis. I have pruned out a lot of the lower large tomato leaf below the fruit to allow it to breathe.
Looking forward to a heap of tomato ripening in the next week or so.

The middle layers I have just replaced some pots and put in 4 zucchini vines and a slim Jim (Japanese) eggplant.

5. What do you like most about the Airgarden?

We love the aeroponic concept, easy to use (now that I have been through a few seasons to understand it), and the speed of growth.

We love to be able to make a complete salad straight from the garden. Thinking about adding a second airgarden to the fold.🙌

6. What would be your biggest piece of advice to other growers?

Be patient and don't give up. I had several false starts. We don't have to be seed cultivating experts and it is easy to transplant purchased seedlings into the airgarden for instant growing and economic success.
And just keep on rotating expired plants for new ones throughout a season before giving it a big spring clean and washout and starting again 😀
