Houston We Have A Problem
Where did Apollo Equine Massage Therapy come from? Read on to find out!
My name is Erin Short and I run Apollo Equine Massage Therapy. I am a qualified Equine Sports Massage Therapist through Equestricare and I offer Sports Massage Therapy and Red Light Therapy. I am based in the Adelaide Hills and service all areas surrounding! I am constantly expanding my knowledge, always adding another course to my curriculum and strive to be the best therapist I can be for my clients, providing them with the best knowledge and care! Here is a little about my story and my journey in this great endeavour.
This story starts in 2014 when I bought my first horse Houston. He is an off the track thoroughbred, at the time 9 years old. Houston was a very strong horse, he had a heavy mouth, a strong mind and a very sore body. Being a naive first horse buyer (and at the time wanting a grey, NEVER AGAIN BY THE WAY), I did not pick up on the signs when I first went to ride him, I didn’t know enough about conformation to see the faults in his. But it wasn’t long before he told me about it. Houston was very unbalanced, felt very stiff and explained to me that he was sore through his love of pigrooting. It was soon that he had his first treatment with a physiotherapist with some great results, he truly did feel better, but he needed regular treatments every 3 months because he would always resort back to the same issues. I remember a time where he had a treatment, wasn’t worked for that 3 month period and when he was treated after he was sore all over again! Massage and physiotherapy very much helped Houston’s muscles and he feels better for a period of time, but he has fallen into a negative pattern of movement which causes him to constantly strain the same muscles just by the way he moves! So how can I help him? I have recently discovered an answer as I explain later.
It was during this time that I decided I wanted to be able to help Houston as much as I could, as well as help other horses that were also struggling. So I set off on a journey studying Equine Massage Therapy through Equestricare and was inundated with information that helped me to explain the many issues I’ve had with Houston and understand why he struggles.
