In our special part of the world, we are lucky enough to share our waterways with beautiful, wild platypuses. We recently had a visitor representing the Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland, who shared some awesome information on what to do if you happen to spot a platypus in trouble. Use the steps they've outlined as a guide, but please remember to call the RSPCA on 1300 ANIMAL before you even approach an animal in distress - your safety must come first and the experts are in the best position to instruct you on what to do.

𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗧 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗙𝗙 𝗢𝗥 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗢𝗩𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦𝗘𝗟𝗙 𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗜𝗖𝗘 🛑 It truly saddens us to have to write this post. Unkind, disrespectful and downright abusive comments made towards our staff have considerably increased in the last little while, and we are putting our hands up to say we will not accept it. We understand current times are tough, money is tight and emotions can run high in stressful situations, however we will not allow our staff to be subjected to mistreatment by the very people whom they show up every day to support. We 𝗗𝗢 𝗡𝗢𝗧 price gouge, we 𝗗𝗢 𝗡𝗢𝗧 set out to delay, we 𝗗𝗢 𝗡𝗢𝗧 take advantage of clients in any way, and any accusation as such 𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗡𝗢𝗧 be tolerated when hurled in anger at a member of our staff. If you have questions, you can 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘆 raise them. If you cannot do this, we will return your animal for you to seek treatment elsewhere and you will not be welcomed back. On average, a vet dies by su***de every 12 weeks and Maleny Vet Services will not condone an environment that feeds this cycle. To our many, many (vast majority in fact) respectful clients, this post does not speak to you - you are appreciated beyond measure 🙏🙏🙏 Kindness is contagious.

It can be a really tough gig sometimes, but these incredible people show up day after day, night after night to provide the best possible health care for the animals in our region. 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲?! 🏥🐶 Blood is essential to life, and there may come a time when your beloved pet requires a life-saving blood transfusion. For this reason, animal blood donors like the beautiful Beau (pictured 💕) are in high demand - just like humans!

At Maleny Vet Services, our team can usually volunteer our own pets as donors for animals requiring critical care. However there are occasions where we exhaust all our regular donors due to a high number of patients requiring transfusions in a short time frame. For these instances, we would love to establish a Dog Blood Donor Register!

🐾 𝗜𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝗴𝗼 𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿?
To be a blood donor your dog needs to be healthy, fully-vaccinated, weigh more than 25kgs and be between 1-7 years of age. Before any pet donates, we run a health screen with a complete blood panel. The blood is tested for compatibility and the donor is sedated for the collection process which only take a few minutes 💉After the bag is filled, the hero is bandaged up, given intravenous fluids, a snack (and lots of cuddles!) and sent home that same day.
