SAFETY SKILLS!!
Thor and I have worked together in the past. After a very rough and unfair start in life, he missed his critical early socialisation and developed human-targeted aggression.
Why does he do this? Well, the truth is that Thor started off scared and confused. This turned into bad habits and regular outbursts any time life went outside his comfort level. It reached an unmanageable state - the smallest tasks like taking off his collar would result in a physical and mental struggle.
A multi-strategy approach has allowed me to develop Thor's skills in various aspects of life. Here is an example of safe handling skills - which will be crucial going forwards for nail trims, vet visits, and heaven forbid illness or injury.
Brachycephalic (short-faced) dogs are difficult to size appropriately for muzzle wearing. To compound the issue, they are often able to scratch the muzzle off as there is no substantial nose to hold it in place. I'm currently developing Thor's skill in wearing an "elizabethan" or "bucket" collar, which will provide a safety barrier in case of emergency. This particular bucket has been modified for length and quick-release Velcro attachments.
