When I say "owning a dog is a lot like parenting" ... i mean it, literally 😂
The most intelligent dogs reach the equivalent IQ of a 3-4 year old child. Here's me, using some #positivereinforcement and careful treat placement to encourage my little man to walk alongside me nicely.
Guess what? It works great with dogs too!
SAFETY SKILLS!!
Thor and I have worked together in the past. After a very rough and unfair start in life, he missed his critical early socialisation and developed human-targeted aggression.
Why does he do this? Well, the truth is that Thor started off scared and confused. This turned into bad habits and regular outbursts any time life went outside his comfort level. It reached an unmanageable state - the smallest tasks like taking off his collar would result in a physical and mental struggle.
A multi-strategy approach has allowed me to develop Thor's skills in various aspects of life. Here is an example of safe handling skills - which will be crucial going forwards for nail trims, vet visits, and heaven forbid illness or injury.
Brachycephalic (short-faced) dogs are difficult to size appropriately for muzzle wearing. To compound the issue, they are often able to scratch the muzzle off as there is no substantial nose to hold it in place. I'm currently developing Thor's skill in wearing an "elizabethan" or "bucket" collar, which will provide a safety barrier in case of emergency. This particular bucket has been modified for length and quick-release Velcro attachments.
Beanie the Weenie facing his leash desensitisation challenge as of today 🖤🤍 bless his silly heart 😂
Harley is having a lot of fun with his muzzle training!
Being comfortable and confident while wearing an appropriately sized muzzle is useful for vet visits, big dog socialisation, and in case of medical treatment in years to come. Proactive muzzle training is a mark of a responsible pet owner, and I encourage it for dogs of all ages and sizes!
Harley has never needed the muzzle, but he comes from a sensible family who know this is a skill for life!
Keep at it mate 😍

How cute is his little frenchie face!! 🖤🤎
One minute training with Beans 🤍🖤
NO FOOD TRAINING!!
Here's a snippet of training with Melody on the weekend! She's such a sweetheart 🩶
Melody and I have met once before, and we spent about 30 minutes practicing collar catch recall and a quick leash introduction session.
This second session is a few months later, and as you can see we're glued to the basics. In this video you can see how Melody gently moves from energetic and curious about her surroundings, to calm and engaged with me holding the leash. We also practice some body handling desensitisation to help her feel confident if she is physically handled.
As you can see, no treats required. Dog training is aaaaallllll about building relationships.
Nice one Mel! 🩶
Lucy is just in a whole mood today.
It's super common for cats to give "love bites" when they play and express affection!!
This is because in cats play behaviour replicates hunting, play only happens when we feel safe, and we feel safe with those we love!
Hands up if your cat showers you with vicious affection?! 🙌
🧡🤎

Training bag was overdue for a clean and an upgrade. I have so much equipment that it barely fit anymore!! My new bag has room for some new toys, and it has WHEELS to save my back 😍

🐕 Pomeranian
The Pomeranian is a toy-sized Spitz type breed, originating in Poland, Germany, and Central Europe.
Spitz breeds typically have long thick fur, pointed ears, and slender muzzles, with a high curl tail and petite feet.
Other Spitz breeds include the Husky, Malamute, Japanese Spitz, German Spitz, Keeshond, and Samoyed.
Behaviourally Pomeranians are highly energetic, playful, intelligent, and independent. They can be vocal about their territory, curious about new objects and places, and can be known as ‘feisty’!
Due to their small size, Pomeranians can be easily physically intimidated. They can often be wary of people reaching out to touch them without consent, resulting in a common behavioural concern of snapping and biting out of fear.

Did we teach loose leash in 35 seconds??
Yeah, right 🤣 so what the heck happened??
Ah the mythological loose leash dog. At ease, by your side, not ripping your arms out and dragging you across the street.
The footage below can be considered in about 3 stages.
1️⃣:
"Don't worry Dad! I've taken charge of scoping out the neighbourhood!"
2️⃣ (brief):
"I DID IT IM A GOOD GIRL!!"
3️⃣:
" Oh you wanna go here? But we've already been here... I guess you can check it out at your own pace Dad. I'll get back to work when we go somewhere new"
Loose leash walking is all about psychology 🧠
Storm will be learning how to go loose leash in Stage One from now on so that she can get the exercise she needs!
