It can be hard to let go of the way others perceive us. Hard to brush off an unkind comment.

So much of our anxiety around our dog’s behaviour comes from the judgments of others and what society expects from us.

Letting go is easier said than done. But you show up every day for your dog, make a difference to their life. And set an example to those watching. Even if they aren’t ready to see it yet.

Dingo families: A lifelong lesson in teamwork.

For nearly a decade, I’ve had the privilege of filming and studying dingoes in Australia. One thing is clear - dingoes share a strong bond, similar to wolves.

What is becoming clear is that dingoes share a lot of behavioural similarities to wolves. This clip shows young dingoes following an adult on a hunting foray. We know that young wolves learn by watching and eventually participating in what the mature individuals do. We know now that dingoes do this too. This has become clear during many hours filming and observing dingoes for television productions.

Many hours spent filming for wildlife documentaries has revealed fascinating insights into dingo behaviour, which even led to a published research paper with colleagues from Monash University. We documented previously unknown hunting techniques used by these amazing predators in the journal Wildlife Research.

In the same week that Australia has finally secured a date and promised legislation to end the live export of sheep, there’s incredible news from the UK with the long-awaited legislation to end all live exports passed overnight.

“We have some of the highest animal welfare standards in the world. This Bill makes use of post-Brexit freedoms to strengthen these standards by preventing the export of live animals for slaughter and fattening, which we know causes animals unnecessary stress and injury” - Steve Barclay, Environment Secretary.

“After fifty years of campaigning to end live exports, it is so important, and welcome, that the UK Government is acting to ban the live export of animals - outlawing the long, crowded journeys, mental exhaustion, physical injury, dehydration and stress that are a reality for farm animals on these unnecessary journeys” - Kerry Postlethwaite, RSPCA England and Wales.

Belle is looking for a new home and was recently listed with us by her breeder Kim. Belle is a very loved and cared for family pet but unfortunately, due to family health issues she's now back with Kim. As is typical of our breeders, Kim is committed to ensuring the health and wellbeing of her puppies and dogs for life, so she's on a mission to find the best new home for this beautiful girl.

She is nearly three years old.
She loves people, other dogs and is house trained.
Belle's parents are health tested and are clear from breed specific detectable genetic diseases.

A HUTCH IS NOT ENOUGH – BUNNIES NEED SPACE TO RUN AND PLAY! 🐰💗🏠

Bunnies are social animals that need plenty of space to exercise, so the hutches and cages that are typically marketed to bunny-lovers are not just inadequate for their needs, they even fall well short of the welfare standards mandated for rabbits kept in laboratories!

Rabbits need a MINIMUM of 2.5 square metres of floor space at all times – even overnight – and the best way to achieve this (if you’re not able to free roam your bunny inside) is to get yourself a pet pen with eight 80cm-wide panels.

Set it up with a rug underneath to ensure bunny’s feet don’t get sore, a tunnel to play in, a hidey house, hay rack, litter tray, and water and food bowls, and you’ve got one seriously spacious and kind bunny home on your hands!

Introducing Rakus, a male orangutan in his mid-30s, first spotted in Suaq Balimbing in 2009. In a recent discovery, researchers observed Rakus using plant sap and crushed leaves to treat an open wound on his fl**ge, a behavior never seen before in wild orangutans. This fascinating behavior was detailed in a study published on May 2 in Scientific Reports, drawing attention to the intelligence and resourcefulness of these amazing creatures. Then we have the ships cats in a custom made hammock aboard HMAS Nizam - one of the “Tobruk ferries” — assisting supply to the Australian garrison - Photo by George Silk, taken in June, 1941. Next is members of the 2/48th Battalion, 9th Australian Division, pictured with a pet dog after evacuation from Tobruk on the ship Kingston. The dog in the final image is Herbie, who died alongside his handler Sapper Darren Smith in 2010.

The best thing we can give our dogs is us, just time with us, whatever that looks like.

What dogs miss so commonly when they find themselves without a person is simply the consistent presence of someone. It doesn’t matter if you’re too tired to play, too unmotivated to train, because having you with them doing nothing is so much better than not having you at all.

Virgin Australia have just announced their intention to launch our first-ever pets in cabin flights!

If in doubt - test with your hand 🖐️ When it's 30 Deg C (86 Deg F), asphalt can reach 60 Deg C (140 Deg F). Extreme temps are forecast for a few more days in alot of Australia (40 deg ++ for Perth) so the other important reminder please don’t leave pets in cars, and keep pets inside if you possibly can 🙏🙏🙏

Remember to walk on grass or during the cooler part of the day. If it's too hot for our bare feet then it's too hot for our pups paws.

While some dogs love to say hello and connect with strangers, just like us, many don't. A lot of dogs don't enjoy the attention of people they don't know and will actively avoid being touched, some will politely tolerate it, and others can become anxious and even aggressive in the most unfortunate circumstances.

Giving dogs and their people space is always going to be the safe and respectful option. If you have children, explaining this to them is particularly important, as is teaching them to always ask before approaching a dog. Children are naturally drawn to dogs like magnets so learning and understanding these courtesies will ensure pleasant experiences for everyone 👍👍👍

from our Bek - Affinity Ragdolls “If you love your fur babies keep them indoors or offer an outdoor walkthrough from your house into a safe secure enclosure. I’ve read and heard from too many posts and people, that their Ragdoll is lost, stolen, hurt or killed by a car. Ragdolls are bred to be indoor cats - period!”

Keep your cats safe indoors, even on your verandahs - special cat netting can be custom made to fit any dimensions for any are.
Councils are cracking down on cats being out and about.

Ragdolls are bred to be indoor cats period! Humans create the problem by exposing them to the outside environment, which then creates a behavioural problem of the cat then wanting ”more”.
A bit like children - if children never tasted chocolate or Icecream they’d never know about it and not “want it”.

I’ve read and heard from to many posts and people, that their Ragdoll is lost, stolen, hurt or killed by a car.

If you love your fur babies keep them indoors or offer and outdoor walkthrough from your house into a safe secure enclosure.
