Some exciting news for Manning Valley pet owners with pet insurance - we now offer GapOnly® as a payment service! If your pet has a policy with a GapOnly® pet insurance partner, for eligible expenses you can access your pet insurance benefit on the spot, and you’ll only pay us the gap (which is the difference between the invoice and the eligible claim benefit under your policy). This means you won't be left out of pocket waiting for reimbursement from your pet insurance company.

It's Christmas Eve and our staff are looking forward to a well-earned break to celebrate with their families. We hope all our wonderful clients and patients have a beautiful, happy and safe Christmas Day tomorrow and thank you for entrusting your beloved pets to our care this year.
We are closed except for Emergencies on Christmas Day and Boxing Day and we will reopen as normal on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th December. We have a Vet on call for the public holidays to ensure we are there to help our patients should they need us.
Merry Christmas to you all and may the New Year bring you and your families many blessings 🎄🌟

The owner of this mare got what they wanted for Christmas - a positive pregnancy scan after a frozen insemination 🥳🌈 This mare was scanned every 2 hours overnight to perfectly time the insemination with ovulation and this result today was well worth the interrupted sleep!! We're having a fantastic breeding season so far with all our mares in foal first go - let's hope the dream run continues! 🐎

One of our favourite patients in for some preventative healthcare (and lots of cuddles!!!🥰) Don't forget to check your pets' vaccinations are up to date! Christmas is fast approaching and so are holidays, travel and lots of fun with family and friends. You don't want any nasty surprises when you arrive at the kennel or cattery but there is no room at the inn because vaccinations have lapsed! Boarding facilities are very strict and we often have a last minute rush on vaccinations in the week before Christmas so we'd recommend checking your records ASAP to ensure they are up to date. If your pet needs a booster vaccination please contact us on 65570000 🎄🏖🛫

We have had a wonderful start to the Equine breeding season! Every mare this year that we have oestrus-cycle managed and inseminated with either frozen or chilled semen is now in foal on her first attempt. The owner of this beautiful mare and foal has been lucky enough to have all three of their mares scanned in-foal 15 days post-insemination - two of them to chilled semen and one to frozen semen. It is such a great result and we are just thrilled for them. The photo is of the two of them in our Equine hospital as she awaits insemination. Mares are able to stay on-site to enable very regular ultrasound scanning to perfectly time the insemination. This is critical to success in frozen inseminations and a dedicated Equine repro vet will often scan the mare every 2 hours over a 12 hour period until ovulation occurs, to be sure the timing is perfect. If you are interested in getting your mare in foal this season, call us on 65570000 or email us at [email protected] 🐴

Did you know we have Vets that are fully accredited to perform PennHip radiographs to screen for hip dysplasia in breeding dogs? PennHip is the most effective hip screening tool for dogs and is accurate in puppies as young as 16 weeks of age. PennHip involves radiographing the hips using a specialised technique to give an estimate of the risk for painful osteoarthritis secondary to canine hip dysplasia later in life. With this information, preventive and palliative strategies can be recommended by our PennHIP-trained Veterinarians. All dogs can benefit from PennHIP screening. For pet dogs and working dogs found to be at risk of hip osteoarthritis due to hip dysplasia, early intervention can help prevent or lessen the severity. PennHip is highly recommended for all breeding dogs, since early detection of at-risk hips can allow the breeder to make early, informed decisions as to which dogs to keep in breeding programs. We have a state-of-the art Digital Radiography suite so our radiographs are best quality. If you would like some more information about PennHip radiographs for your dog, please call us on 65570000. 🐾

Billy the sheep sustained a nasty fracture to his leg, which was treated with a fibreglass cast. Leg fractures in sheep, goats and calves usually heal very well with casting alone, unlike dogs and cats where surgical fixation (e.g. a steel bone plate) is almost always required for the fracture to heal properly and without complications. The xrays show the initial fracture and then the healed bone after casting. He is pictured here after his cast removal - he was so happy to have his cast off that he had a joyous roll in the sawdust of our stable, earning himself the new nickname "Lambington" ❤🐑

🎄🎄🎄Important Christmas Reminder - Medication & Vaccinations 🎄🎄🎄
Christmas is just around the corner and with the public holidays and many Medication wholesalers & Compounding Pharmacies having a shutdown period over Christmas and New Year, it is important to plan ahead so you don't run out of your pet's regular medications. Please ensure you get in touch with us over the next 2-3 weeks to ensure you have sufficient Medication dispensed to get you through the Christmas/New Year period.
Also don't forget to ensure your pets' Vaccinations are up to date - boarding kennels will not accept pets if their Vaccinations are overdue & every year lots of people need to add a last minute trip to the Vet onto their Christmas Eve jobs list! We always do our best to accommodate last minute Vaccination appointments in these circumstances, but we know families have a lot on and other places they would like to be on Christmas Eve, so be sure to check your dog's records now and get in touch with us if you think they need a booster. There has also been a rise in parvovirus cases in NSW over the past few months so it is very important that your dog is protected, especially before travelling and mixing with other dogs 🐾

Jethro is the sweetest boy and he is doing wonderfully after his recent gastrointestinal surgery with Dr. Alice and Dr. Melina. Jethro developed a condition called an intussusception, where the intestine accidentally telescopes inside itself and becomes stuck, causing a bowel obstruction. This condition was identified by abdominal ultrasound and Jethro underwent emergency surgery to remove the affected section of intestine, and then the healthy pieces of intestine are sutured together. These photos are from Jethro's recent post-op recheck (licky mats and plentiful cream cheese make this a fun and happy experience for Jethro!) He has made a fantastic recovery and he should go on to live a very happy and healthy life 🐾❤

We are thrilled today that this beautiful girl is in foal after her recent artificial insemination with us. She came into our Equine Hospital throughout her cycle for ultrasound scans with our Equine Repro Vets Michael & Claire, and when she was deemed ready, chilled Warmblood Stallion semen was shipped to the hospital and placed into her uterine horn on the same side as the o***y that would release the egg, to maximise her chances of getting in foal. We look forward to the arrival of a lovely little foal next year 🐎

Just like foals and calves, baby llamas and alpacas must receive adequate colostrum soon after birth to develop sufficient immunity to fight off disease. This gorgeous llama cria had 'failure of passive transfer' which means she did not receive sufficient colostrum or first milk from her mum. This can be due to the cria either being too weak to suckle, or becoming separated from their mother, or because the hembra (female llama) was not producing sufficient colostrum. We performed a blood test to diagnose her with failure of passive transfer and brought her to the hospital to have an intravenous plasma transfusion. The plasma 'Camelplas' is specifically formulated for alpacas, llamas and camels and provides her with sufficient immunoglobulins and antibodies to fight off disease. She was very well loved during her hospital stay - we are so lucky that we get to help all creatures great and small🦙🍼

🤩 IT'S VET NURSE DAY 🙌
Today we recognise our magnificent Veterinary Nurses

Our veterinary nurses are the backbone of everything we do at Wingham & Valley Vets.

Behind the scenes, as well as helping in the consult rooms, our Vet Nurses possess an amazing set of skills. Not only are they highly trained in monitoring anaesthetic procedures, any given day could see them performing vital checks on hospitalised patients, working alongside the vets to ensure the best care for unwell inpatients, preparing animals for surgery, administering medications, performimg pain scores on patients (to identify and address pain at an early stage), assessing patients for fear/anxiety so it can be minimised (as part of our hospital's 'Fear Free' philosophy), maintaining surgical theatre sterility/cleanliness standards, providing calm and crucial support as surgical assistants in major surgeries, performing diagnostic tests including blood and urine tests, providing comfort to pet owners during difficult times, communicating important health advice to pet owners, and the list could go on and on.

Our ability to offer our furry friends, as well as livestock, the highest standard of care, simply would not be possible without our Vet Nurses. They constantly support our Vets in so many ways.

The list of skills above, although impressive, is not their greatest strength. It is their boundless compassion and empathy, and their care for their patients and colleagues, that we most appreciate.

So, to our Vet Nurses, we say a heartfelt THANK YOU.

Your compassion makes a profound difference to the lives of the pets you care for, their owners and the local community as a whole.

So if you happen to see a Vet Nurse today, please tell them they are a true champion 🏅
