One lucky pup just emptied its stomach at Vet24 and dodged this dangerous blowfish! Please beware, our beaches are reportedly riddled with these guys at the moment. If you see your dog licking or chewing a blowfish they can still be poisoned without ingesting.

Early signs of Blowfish or puffer fish poisoning in dogs include vomiting, drooling, panting and lethargy. These will progress to trembling, wobbly gait, blue tinged gums, dilated pupils and muscle tremors. Then sadly to paralysis and coma.

If you see your dog with a Blowfish please go straight to your closest emergency vet!

As always Vet24 is OPEN 24 hours a day every single day over Christmas and the New Year. YES that includes Christmas Day! Please plan ahead for the holidays and make sure you know which emergency centre you will visit if the need arises and check their opening hours! This could save your pet valuable moments in an emergency.

Hey friends! We are running low on towels and blankets, these are essential items for recovering and caring for our inpatients, however they have a short lifespan due to infection control practices, so recycling is best! Sadly we have seen a lot of Parvo cases recently. As a result of our very strict hygiene and sanitisation procedures at Vet24, we are now out of towels. If you have old towels at home, which you no longer require, please drop them at reception for our patients 🙂

We weren't looking for a tapeworm, but we did find one! Axel visited Vet24 for a foreign body surgery, the surgery was successful and while we were in there, we found this nasty parasite.

We recommend treating your dog or cat for intestinal worms every three months. Axel agreed to share this reminder, as he is much happier not having this rotten parasite living in his intestines and sharing all his dog treats!
