✨ Sneak Peek Time! ✨

When Tori first reached out, I admit I did a double take - her address was over 8 hours away from Melbourne! Surely there’d been a mix-up? But no, Tori knew exactly what she was doing and was happy to make the trip for just the right photographer (what an honour! no pressure😅). Her visit to Melbourne lined up perfectly, and soon we were deep in planning for a truly special session. That’s when I got to learn all about Nova—a gorgeous 12.5-year-old Samoyed who’s the light of Tori’s life. Tori describes Nova as "friendly, lights up peoples faces easily, very loved, and smiley". It was so clear how much love they share, and I felt privileged to hear their story. Nova isn’t just a senior girl; she’s also facing some serious health challenges, making this session even more meaningful. Capturing their incredible bond was at the heart of it all, and I’m so glad we could create these moments together. ❤️

What speaks to you?

Perfectly posed or crazy candids? Some pet parents desperately want images of their pet, looking right down the lens, but struggle to get their pet's attention. Some pet parents would love images of their pet mid-action - feet and fur flying, whilst others find themselves drawn to those brief, in-between authentic moments, where their pet is relaxed and truly themselves. This could be soaking up the sunshine, resting in the grass, or sniffing and exploring.

We aim to capture a wide variety of images during your pet's photo session, creating a well-rounded collection of images that represent all the aspects of your pet that you know and love!

Meet Pretzel! 🥨

With a name this awesome, I knew I had to meet them!

Katherine always wanted a dog, but wanted to wait for the right time to welcome one into the family! Once the kids were old enough, the search began for the perfect family dog! The search initially began with Samoyeds (a great dog, but hard to keep snowy white!) before stumbling across the 'Finnish Lapphund' (and the rest is history!)

Preztel is described as:
🧡friendly and playful (loves tug & loved our tiny sheep plushie!)
✨curious, and alert
🌲loves to sniff and explore!

Such a fun and handsome guy! The camera loved him 📸

🧡 'Absolutely gorgeous!'

Tate had me up, down, and running around to keep ahead of him, but it was SO worth it for the results! Tate is an energetic boy who loves to play yet the image that I wanted to share is actually one of stillness and clam. I love hower powerful yet peaceful this image is, and the way the sun gently highlights Tate's outline - especially his incredible ears! 🐾

Meet Jaxx, the 2.5-year-old black lab!

Jaxx and his "pawrent," Liz, recently joined me for a playful sunset session! Liz wanted to capture some heartfelt moments of her handsome boy, Jaxx, as well as a few special shots of the two of them together. There were so many incredible moments from this session, it was tough to decide which one to share! I chose this image—one of the very last from the evening. Jaxx’s sleek, jet-black coat contrasts beautifully with the rich, golden glow of the sun’s final rays.

Liz describes Jaxx as:
⭐Obedient, yet cheeky!
🥳 Playful and fun-loving
💖Affectionate (loves cuddles!)

Our cosy studio was designed with comfort in mind, especially for pets that may feel shy in front of the camera. Many pets find it difficult to process new places, people, and events, so we take it slowly. During our sessions, we let them explore, sniff around, and settle in before taking any photos. By creating a quiet, friendly environment, we can help even nervous pets feel more at ease and able to show off their personality.

Fur Maintenance Tip! For your pet's health and happiness, it's important to keep the fur in good condition. Brushing them regularly gets rid of loose fur and keeps it from matting. It also spreads natural oils that keep their body healthy and shiny. 😏

As a general guide, for long-haired breeds, try to brush them every few days. For short-haired friends, once a week is enough. The extra attention will make your animal friend very happy. 🐶

for these two stunning labs, the beautiful Verona (4 yrs old) and handsome Brian (7 yrs old)!

🧡Their mum Leanne describes Verona as loving, calm, and independent (even a little cat-like at times!). She is a clever and happy girl whose coat is the most gorgeous fox-red colour!

⭐ Brain is described as having a lovely smile, a friendly personality and a is a big goof ball! He is a 'daddy's-boy' and spends much of his time with Geoff, who works from home. What a great supervisor! very 'paw-fessional', very good boy!

We were treated to such a gorgeous evening - golden hour did not disappoint!
This was such a fun session; I loved working with Verona, Brain and their family to capture some special memories!

Throwback to our session with the incredible Totoro ('Toto'), the handsome Finnish Lapphund! This session was a lot of fun - Toto brought energy and enthusiasm to his shoot! ✨ His gorgeous, soft golden coat worked perfectly with the tones of our orange background!

I've had the pleasure of working with this gorgeous boy twice now! (In studio and then on-location) And it's been a blast each time! 💛

Let's talk black fur! One of the most common questions I get from pet owners is around a photoshoot for their black dog/cat etc. - "My dog/cat is so hard to photograph - is it even possible to have a photo session?" (good news - yes it is!).

There's no doubt darker pets can sometimes prove a little harder to photograph (especially when relying on your phone's camera). Understanding light, time of day, weather, and the location are all essential parts of taking a great photo! I have a real soft spot for black dogs and cats, and just love how striking their coats look!

Black coats can have a lot of variation and actually look and feel quite different - Some coats are so dark they seem to absorb the light! The fur is often thick, fluffy, and beautifully soft and velvety! Other black coats have an eye-catching shine and are wonderfully silky! Regardless of the type of black pet you have - one thing I notice is how well their sparkly eyes and happy expressions really jump out! Black pets stand out amongst their surroundings (they're there to be seen, noticed, and appreciated!!) - we wouldn't have it any other way! 🖤

🐾 I'm here to capture their personality, charm, and incredible colour - whether that's being celebrated like a movie star in-studio, or on an adventure outdoors!

Meet Pomeranians Percy & Sadie! They were such a fantastic pair to work with - very different personalities, both incredible, and both equally fun! ❤️

Having two dogs brings so much joy (and chaos!) with extra wagging tails, extra snuggles, and countless adventures! Whether they're playfully wrestling in the garden or curled up with one another, I know for me, having two dogs has filled my life with a lot of love, a lot of laughs.... and A LOT of hair! 🐶🐶

Fun Fact about Pomeranians! Did you know Pomeranians originate from Icelandic and Lapland sled dogs breeds, and are closely related to Siberian huskies, malamutes, and Samoyeds? It's hard to believe, right? These fluffy pups are full of personality and an appetite for exploration! Poms used to be larger at around 30lbs and were used for herding, but over time have become much smaller, now one of the smallest breeds weighing in at just 3-7lbs!✨

Our Story

Pet photography. by pet lovers, for pet lovers.

Whether you’ve stumbled across us by accident (and stayed for the cuteness) or you’ve been thinking about a pet photography session for a while - we’re glad you’re here! I’m Meg, owner, and photographer for Megan O’Hehir Pet Photography. I’m spend my days working as a pet photographer, dog trainer, and loyal companion (re chauffeur, cleaner, cook, servant, and friend) to my two cheeky, four-legged fuzz-butts; Kaylee (Labrador) and Abby (calico cat).

Why pets? I often get smiles and curious expressions when people ask what it is I do for work. “Pet photography! wow - why pets?” The answer is easy. I’ve always had immense love and respect for animals. They are hands down, my favourite subject matter. During my time studying photography, I photographed a wide range of subjects but none have captivated me in the same way that animals have. Animals make it easy to create, they inspire me to pick up my camera. Photographing pets is such an enjoyable process or me; capturing their honest and unfiltered emotions and joy makes it easy for me to create colourful and engaging pet portraiture.
