Hi y'all!

Signing out from here until the new year. Wishing you a happy, safe and restorative holiday period, however you will be spending it.
Me? I'm off to the Gold Coast, to sit poolside with a glass of bubbles and a family-size Toblerone.

In the interim my calendar is still open for bookings for the new year, and don't wander off too far, because my annual Dog Of The Year comp is just around the corner!

Thank you for your support, as always.
I'm incredibly grateful that I am able to do this cup-filling work, and share it with you all.

With warmth and love,

Dani xx

Here's an argument you can bring to Dad when he says flat out 'no' to getting a dog. Hit him with the facts! On average, a family with pets is a happier family.

A dog will boost your mood through their unconditional love. Give them a big cuddle and your natural levels of oxytocin, the “feel-good” hormone, will increase. (aka get high without drugs).

They will help strengthen bonds within your family unit, teach responsibility and personal accountability, and never ever share your secrets. (aka 24/7 therapy).

Getting outside to go to the park or take a walk when you otherwise wouldn't, is not only good for our bodies but fantastic for our minds. (aka inbuilt daily exercise and fewer gym fees)

Children who grow up with pets are often quicker to develop empathy and responsibility. (aka your very own Mary Poppins)

If Dad comes back citing all the extra jobs that pet ownership will entail, I like to hold gratitude close to my mind.
I haven't "got" to walk the dog, I "get" to walk the dog. What a privilege it is to clean up toys from the floor, because they had a good time playing. It's a privilege to have dog hair in the car because it means that we were able to take them with us. What a privilege that the couch feels cramped because they decided to share in our space for a cuddle. Having to vacuum up sandy floors at home is a tiny price to pay for a fun time at the beach. Unconditional love leads to a more enriched and joyful life, and you can't convince me otherwise.

Sorry Dad. We're getting a dog.

Do you ever ask yourself, does my dog know that I love them?

Well, yes! Absolutely your dog knows you love them. And they love you back in a myriad of ways. While they can't say it, they'll show it.

If your dog greets you enthusiastically when you come home, wagging their tail or jumping around, it’s a clear expression of love.
They might show affection by leaning against you, cuddling, or following you from room to room. Maybe they bring you their toys to 'share', which is them reaching out for a connection. Giving you licks is another natural way dogs show care and affection, which is similar to grooming behaviour in their pack.
Simple things like a relaxed body language, and if your dog sleeps near you or exposes their belly, it means they feel safe and loved. A dog that rests peacefully by your side feels secure and connected to you. There's no doubt at all that they love you right back 💖

Siobhan told me, "Ragu is a social butterfly who loves to play and has a mind of his own. Maple is a little diva who loves attention and cuddles. She thinks she's an actual baby!"

I adored spending time with your gorgeous family of 5. Congratulations on your third born, this time a human baby!

Major and Bernadette. A real love story ❤️

"Major is my everything. I say he is my son, he is definitely a mummy’s boy and follows me everywhere. He makes me smile and laugh so much. If I’m having a bad day he makes it better, and if I’m having a good day he makes it even better still. Coming home to him is the highlight to my day. He is my soulmate"

"Linkin was a happy accident! Daemon went away for work for one night and I went to 'just look' at a litter of puppies owned by a colleague of mine... I picked Linkin up, he fell asleep in my arms and that was it. I was smitten and we suddenly had a puppy!"

Linkin now has his very own Dog Blog! With words from his doting Mum, Cassia.

Check it out via this link here, or follow through my link in bio!

Sweet and busy boy, Linkin. We trotted together through the bush for our session, where he lead us down to the waterhole for a paddle. He was the only one willing to go in but that didn’t matter, he’s not limiting himself for anyone!

Darling Benji, I only met you for the briefest of moments, but it was immediately obvious that you were an exceptional boy. A huge heart, an old soul, and a most wonderfully kind personality all wrapped up in a little gentle body.

Benji left us just over a week ago and my heart aches. I can't even imagine the impression he's made on those closest to him, but I feel it's safe for me to say thank you Benji, for making the lives of those around you better. Of that I have no doubt.

His Mum Georgie shared with me, "Benji was the most loyal and loving dog, incredibly smart, protective, full of energy and all around the best boy you would ever meet. I hope you’re catching waves and eating all the chicken you want my beautiful boy, Benji you will forever be my soul dog. ❤️🐾"

It's why I do what I do.
Pets are family, and even on the sad days, my cup is filled because your time together deserves to be cherished.
Thank you Danni for inviting me to walk alongside your family, and catch a glimpse of your heart.

"Having Bailey and Max has been the best part of my life. I honestly think if it weren't for them my life would have been far more difficult. I know they won’t be with me forever, but hopefully with these special photos I can remember them in the best way way possible for many many years to come."

How do I greet an overly excited dog? I don't!

The trick is to stay calm and avoid matching their energy, I'll always speak to their human first. When you're meeting a silly sausage for the first time, give them space to settle down instead of immediately rewarding their excitement with attention. Offering a treat or a calm command like “sit” can help refocus their energy, or failing that, let them run around and get all their wiggles out! Only once they’ve calmed down, reward them with affection and praise. This reinforces good behaviour while allowing them to feel comfortable without overwhelming them.

I can't lie, I've shed a few tears over this end of life session with Bear's beautiful family.
Sometimes the work I do can be challenging, but the meaning and fulfilment win out every time. I've been asked "how can you do it?" But truly, how can I not?

There's a new dog blog for your eyes (and your heart) ready to read on www.houndinhand.com. The link is in my bio, but heads up - the content deals with pet loss.

Alex told me "I've always grown up with dogs but Bear has been my souldog, he has been with me through some of the toughest times of my life, and also watched when I fell in love with my soon to be husband Nick. He has shown me what unconditional love is and shown me that no matter what is happening in the world the love between a dog and there person is so extremely pure."

Adopting a dog from a rehoming organisation is mutually beneficial in the truest sense.
Firstly, you'll be saving lives by freeing up space for other potential pets, meanwhile gaining a loyal companion who will shower you in unconditional love.
While you're giving your shelter dog a second chance, they will help you stay active, de-stress and socialise more!
Not to mention, you’ll have a lifelong best friend who keeps life exciting and full of joy. Adopting makes a huge impact on both your dog’s life, and yours. It's a win-win.

The loss of a pet is one of the most heart-breaking, earth-shattering pains. I wish we could all have more time together with our beloved pets, even though no amount of time will ever be enough.
Our loved one’s stories will always be a part of our own, and we can bring photos with us into the future to cherish the incredible love and bond that was shared. Creating photographs to capture this love is the very essence of Hound In Hand.
I aim for my services to be as accessible as possible for those facing impossibly-hard goodbyes. This is why I offer complimentary end-of-life photo sessions for pets and their people. Everyone deserves to have beautiful photos with their pets, because the love that they give is one of the biggest loves there is.

These photos of darling Jetta were taken at his home on his last day with us 🖤

Ever wonder why your dog follows you everywhere?

Dogs follow us for many reasons, with the most consistent one being that it’s in their genes. Historically, dogs are pack animals, and when they come to live with you, they'll adopt their human family as their pack.
But genetics aren’t the only factor. Dogs are social animals and enjoy companionship just as we do. They often show their affection by sticking close to us. Sometimes, dogs follow us out of boredom (or fomo!), thinking, “If you’re doing something, why not join in?” Additionally, dogs quickly learn routines, like dinner or walking times, and following you ensures they don’t miss out on anything.

But ultimately - your dogs follow you because you’re their favourite person, and they just want to be close to you. It's unconditional love in its purest form 🐾🖤🐾
