When a genetic bottleneck began creating problems for Lipizzaner breeders in Australia, collaborative grassroots action saw the creation of the Australian Lipizzaner Registry in an effort to help preserve the breed here.

Annwn Park Lipizzaner Stud and Phoenix Park Lipizzaner Stud are happy to announce that 524 Llamrei (Eve) will be bred this season to 315 Maestoso Pomona.

This will be the first foal that Annwn Park Lipizzaner Stud has bred since 2015. As always, a lot of careful thought has gone into the choice of stallion and mare combination.

EVE is by re-known Lipizzaner stallion 257 Favory Pallavicina Merlin (x 226 Favory Naussica imp Fr/exp USA) x 227-1840 Pluto XXIX-23 imp Szilvasvarad) and from the mare 223 Lucca (174 Favory Sistina I x 109 Linda).

MAESTOSO POMONA is by the Piber imported stallion 318 Maestoso Gratia 1-3 (559 Maestoso Virtuosa x 53 Gratia) from the mare 234 Pomona (2697 Favory XXIV-33 XXVII x 227-1840 Pluto XXIX-23 imp Szilvasvarad).

Eve is the only breeding female progeny alive of the 109 Linda mare line. The breeding will have a lovely very complimentary double cross to the mare 227-1840 Pluto XXIX-23 imp Szilvasvarad.

We are quite excited about this foal.

"I'D LOVE TO OWN A LIPIZZANER BUT THEY ARE TOO SMALL FOR ME..."

"I'M A TALL RIDER SO I NEED A 17H WARMBLOOD TYPE..."

This is something we often hear, and riders who go ahead and ride a lippy are often amazed at how "big" they ride. Lipizzaners are well known for being "the BIGGEST little horses to ride!" They have a unique ability with their shape to be able to accommodate taller riders and not look too small at all. And of course, there is that incredible core strength.

Did you know that the stallions performing in the Spanish Riding School quadrille are all 15.1-15.2h and ridden by riders 5'9-5'10 to create a picture of uniformity?

As a example, the horse pictured below is barely 14.2h and carrying a 174cm (nearly 5'9) rider.

Don't discount a Lipizzaner as a future mount because of their size. They will surprise you!
