🚨 URGENT: SCRUFFY NEEDS A FOSTER CARER OR FOREVER HOME BEFORE JAN 16TH 🚨

‌3-year-old stumpy-tailed cattle dog Scruffy is in a tough situation. His owner is no longer able to care for him and has reached out to Forever Friends to help keep Scruffy out of the pound.

This smiley pooch would be a great companion for outdoor adventures, whether it’s just the two of you or you’re hoping to get your older kids away from their phones or give them a restorative break from the textbooks! Jogging, hiking, swimming, and more are all in Scruffy’s wheelhouse.

His active soul might even be your dream fitness partner if you’re starting to question how you’re going to hit your 2025 new year resolutions!

Of course, Scruffy knows that life is about balance too. The perfect end to a workout, in his mind, is a cuddle, preferably on the couch.

His ideal home is somewhere with space to run, a companion to be active with, and no other pets to compete with.

If you’d love to see Scruffy become a part of your family, you can learn more about him and submit your adoption enquiry via the link below.

https://www.savour-life.com.au/adopt-a-dog/search-now/view/87513

Alternatively, if you’d like to help Scruffy out and foster him, please complete a foster carer application at www.foreverfriends.org.au/foster/ and let us know that you’d love to have Scruffy come stay!

Please also share this post. We know Scruffy’s forever family is out there somewhere!

🎉 MORE THAN 80 ANIMALS WERE ADOPTED IN DECEMBER 🎉

It’s wonderful to know that so many animals got to spend Christmas with their new forever families. And for those that came into care, we have our fingers crossed they’ll find their homes soon.

Thanks to everyone who made this win happen, from our transporters and foster carers, right through to everyone who shared our posts and shared our tells people to adopt rather than shop!

💖 ADORABLE ANNABEL IS READY FOR ADOPTION! 💖

‌Annabel knows what goes into a good day: playing, keeping a birds-eye view of the neighbourhood, and climbing into your lap for a big sleep.

This little girl is a wonderful independent but affectionate cat. She also gets on with other cats; she could make a great companion to a lonely cat.

You can learn more about Annabel and submit your adoption enquiry via the link below.

🥹 FROM THE POUND TO UNDER THE CHRISTMAS TREE: THIS IS WINTER’S STORY 🥹

In late December we were alerted to a maremma who was struggling in the local pound. Winter had been surrendered by their owner who could no longer care for him. However, like many animals, he struggled with the transition from a loving home to a pound.

Winter was constantly trembling and shutdown. He needed a lifeline.

Thankfully, we were able to find a foster family for Winter just days before Christmas.

It was the perfect Christmas gift. He had foster siblings to play with, people to cuddle with and even his own stocking ready for Santa Paws.

We hope Winter will soon be available for adoption, so he can spend his next Christmas in their forever home.

We’re only able to help animals like Winter, and give them the care and compassion they deserve, with your support.

You can make a donation today via www.foreverfriends.org.au/donate/

Alternatively, you can even get family and friends involved and help raise funds for Forever Friends! It’s a perfect way to tick off a New Year’s resolution to do some good.

Simply create a profile via the link below and start telling friends and family about the great work Forever Friends does.

⭐️ IT MIGHT BE THE END OF THE YEAR, BUT RESCUE NEVER SLEEPS! ⭐️

2024 has been a huge year for Forever Friends Animal Rescue with plenty of ups and downs. But even when we’re letting our head down, we make sure to keep rescue front and centre.

For instance, Dido, the much-loved dog of Forever Friends’ chair Richard Dent, took time out from the local street Christmas party to chat with Minister Clare O’Neil about how all animals should have a forever home just like her.

We’re incredibly grateful for all your support this year, whether you donated, shared a post, fostered, or adopted an animal. Here’s to more great work in 2025!

💙 THANK YOU FOR YOUR HERCULEAN HELP! 💙

We cannot begin to express how wonderful it has been to see so many people rally around our beloved Hercules after his life-threatening GDV event. Your support has meant we’ve been able to focus on getting him the major surgery and care he needs, rather than worrying about how to fund the costs.

You’ll all be glad to see, too, that Hercules has been given the all-clear to come back to the Sanctuary. Sticking his head out the car window, he’s clearly feeling his usual goofy self. While it might be a little while yet before he can play with his friends, everyone is happy he’s back.

Over the coming days, a vet will check on him to make sure he’s healing as he should. We’re crossing our fingers for no post-surgery complications.

Thank you once again — at the end of what has been a long hard year in rescue, it’s incredibly heartening to know that there are so many people who care.

🤞 HOW IS HERCULES? 🤞

Late yesterday afternoon, Hercules underwent a complicated 3-hour surgery to treat his bloat. The vet team discovered that his stomach had twisted 360 degrees — in most bloat cases, a 180 degrees is as much as it twists — and his spleen and lungs were also being affected.

Thankfully, the amazing vet team were able to save Hercules, even stitching his stomach to his chest cavity wall to hopefully prevent this from happening again.

It says so much that upon waking after this surgery, and having lost an entire litre of blood, Hercules was still his sweet and gentle self.

He slept well overnight and was bright this morning, eating a little too. But it is still early days.

For now, Hercules needs to remain in hospital to be carefully monitored. While we would never deny him this care, the cost of it is certainly difficult for our volunteer-run rescue to manage.

If you can, please donate to help cover the costs of Hercules’ surgery and care. You can do so via this post or by any one of the ways listed at www.foreverfriends.org.au

Please also share this post with friends and family. We’ve seen just how many people have shared Hercules’ story and we know they’d want to hear that he’s fighting to get back to his walks at the Sanctuary and his best friend Alpine.

To those who have already donated, thank you so much. It means the world to us and we’ve let Hercules know just how loved he is.

UPDATE:
We’ll have more for you later today but Hercules did well overnight following a huge and complex surgery. He’s bright, although understandably tired. Thank you for helping make this possible and for supporting Hercules. He's not out of the woods yet, but all our paws are crossed!

🚨🙏URGENT: HELP US SAVE HERCULES! 🙏🚨

Gentle Giant Herc was suddenly in dramatic pain this afternoon.

Within minutes, founder Saskia and her Sanctuary volunteers were racing him to Emergency an hour away.

Our worst fears of life-threatening bloat were confirmed on arrival.

Herc’s only hope is surgery. Despite the high cost - $10,000+ - we know you, our supporters, would insist we do whatever we can to save this big-hearted boy. As we write this, he’s currently being operated on.

Six months ago, Herc was wandering petrifed and hungry around Melton, likely dumped, before being saved and brought to Forever Friends Animal Rescue to recover.

Here the 5yo has thrived and even made a best mate in the goofy Maremma, Alpine, who desperately needs him back.

Please help fund Hercules’ surgery. Your gift is tax-deductible and saves a life! You can donate via this post or by one of the ways listed at www.foreverfriends.org.au/donate.

Please also share this post. Hercules needs all the help in the world right now.

Thank you 🙏

🦌 IF THE REINDEER NEED A BREAK TONIGHT, WE’VE GOT SANTA COVERED! 🦌

Visiting all those houses in one evening is tough, so we get it if Rudolph and his pals need to catch their breath. In fact, we’ve got some reindeer who are ready to be called in at a moment’s notice.

What they lack in magical flying powers they make up for in cuteness and enthusiasm!

💙 STUCK FOR A CHRISTMAS GIFT OR ALREADY HAVE ENOUGH STUFF? 💙

When so many of us have more than enough for a Merry Christmas, now’s your chance to make a difference to vulnerable and neglected animals. With your support, we can continue to provide them with medical care and behavioural training, all with the ultimate goal of finding them their forever home!

So, are you ready to transform lives?

🐶 EVER WONDERED HOW YOUR DOG GOT TO BE SO CUTE? IT COULD BE GENETIC! 🐶

We were delighted to receive updates from two recently adopted dogs, including the results of their genetic tests!

After a sad week with the passing of Hank and the conversations it’s raised about breeding purebreds, it’s wonderful to see that, in the end, the breed doesn’t matter. These two dogs are proof that no matter what’s in their genes, every dog deserves to be loved and wants to find their forever family.

🥹 CAN YOU SAY NO TO THESE BUNNY SIBLINGS? 🥹

Atticus and Aila are a bunny brother-and-sister duo who are best friends through and through.

Whether they’re sharing a delicious bowl of veggies or grooming one another, they’re always adorably in love.

But, like any good couple, they have separate hobbies too! Aila can be found exploring her environment, looking for cuddles and pats. Atticus prefers a snooze in the sunshine.

Both bunnies are litter trained too!

You can learn more about Atticus and Aila and submit your adoption enquiry via the link below.

About FFAR

Established in 2011, Forever Friends Animal Rescue is a registered charity run by animal-loving volunteers. Our mission is to rescue animals from death row and find them loving forever homes. To date, we have saved more than 8000 lives (2020). We are staffed entirely by volunteers, receive no government funding, and rely on the community for donations and support. We are governed by a management committee and currently have in excess of 800 active volunteers.

We are based in Melbourne, Australia with foster carers and volunteers located from Warnambool in the west to Gippsland in the east.
