Please join me in wishing my favourite person a very happy 39th birthday! You’re the heart of our little family and the one who makes every day brighter. The kids, dogs and I are so thankful for all the love, patience and effort you pour into us…even if you did manage to sneak in a nap before both kids made their grand entrance.

On behalf of our wonderful community, thank you for everything you do for the fish-keeping hobby. You never stop giving your time, knowledge and care to others and it’s easy to see why everyone appreciates you so much.

It was a real highlight for us to have had Sam from Parker’s Reef visit the store this morning to capture a really special milestone.

It is hard to believe it has been a little over a year since we revealed our new build. Many of you have wondered why the display tank has been sitting empty and we completely understand. For those of you who have been excitedly waiting to see fish and coral, a year feels like forever. For us, it has been the fastest year of our lives, with Anderson and Audrey at an age where our time and attention matter most. As owner-operators there is no big team behind us, so naturally things take longer.

Letting go of a system that had been running for over 20 years and putting everything into this upgrade was a huge leap for us. What you see here has been created over time by us steadily putting everything back into the store and the community that keeps it alive.

The display has been ready for livestock for almost six weeks and if you have visited, you will have seen the army of snails and urchins working hard to keep it clean.

Andy and Thomas have been begging me to give the green light to add fish, mostly because you have been begging them! But my gut instinct told me to wait. The first lot of fish deserved a moment that felt as big as the journey itself, so when Sam said he would be visiting, I knew the timing was finally right.

If you’re curious about which fish we’ve added, keep an eye out for Sam’s YouTube video tomorrow or come in and see them in person.

This is the start of a magical reef that we hope everyone in our community can visit, enjoy and be inspired by.
