🐶🐕Cross breeds! What should you expect?🐕🐶

Absolutely nothing is guaranteed when you purchase a cross breed animal. You could get the best traits of both breeds or the worst traits of both breeds. You can breed a shedding dog with a non-shedding dog in hopes that the puppies will be non-shedding but still have puppies that shed their hair.

Wookie and Chewie look and act completely different from each other but are, in fact, litter mates and are the perfect example of not being able to expect anything when it comes to dogs bred with different breeds. 🐶

These two beautiful boys are both Border Collie x Poodles.

❤️ Chewie is a gorgous little man. He has a thick course coat and looks a little like an English sheep dog! Chewie doesn't shed and will need maintenance to keep his coat healthy. He is an incredible jumper and can scale a fence without trouble! He got his name because he chews EVERYTHING!

💙 Wookie is a lovely little man who has a smooth soft coat. He sheds and does not require grooming. He is a little more laid back than his brother and definitely can not scale the fence as much as he wishes he could go exploring with his brother!

Although they look so very different from each other, they both managed to get beautiful, friendly temperaments and a love of snacks. 😋

When it comes to animals, small or large, curly or straight coat, pure breed or cross breed….. We absolutely love them all. Wookie and Chewie are no different! 💕

🎃🐶Happy Howl-o-ween🐶🎃

Nothing makes our skin crawl during this spooky season like watching a flea run across our pet’s fur or seeing a worm wiggle out of some poo.

Nexgard Spectra is a once-a-month treatment that covers Fleas, Ticks, Mites, Heartworm, Lungworm, roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms (AND the Cat Nexgard Spectra also treats tapeworm!).
By using Spectra in our household pets, we greatly reduce the risk to not only our pets, but also the risk of spreading zoonotic diseases to our human family and keeps the gross creepy crawlies that live inside and on our pets out of our homes!

At Monier Vet Clinic, we have it available for both Dogs and Cats in singles, 3 month and 6 month packs.

Did you know in some cases, our dogs and cats need blood just like humans do? 🩸

Sometimes, we rely on special members of our community to volunteer their pets to donate blood for in need patients. We had a very ill dog presented with a splenic mass bleeding into his abdomen. He had a significant amount of blood loss, and to stabilise him before surgery, he was required to have a blood transfusion.

Michelle and her beautiful dog Tahoe were called to see if they were available to give blood. Without hesitation, Michelle brought Tahoe in, blood was collected, and he was rewarded with a large amount of love and treats and roast chicken from the nurses. The owner of the sick dog was able to meet the beautiful duo when he came to pick up his dog, who had recovered from his life-saving surgery that evening thanks to Tahoe’s donation. It was so lovely to see someone see the dog who helped save their own dogs life. Not often do you get to meet and thank these heroes of the vet industry, such as Tahoe and Michelle.

If you would like to register for your pet to be a blood doner, they can register with us today.

To be eligible for your pet to give blood they must be:

🩸Between 1- 8 years of age

🩸Body weight be over 5kg for cats and 23 kgs for dogs.

🩸Up to date with their preventative (flea, tick, and worming) and Vaccinations

🩸Never had a litter.

🩸Has a good temperament

⚠️Ollie is now Adopted!⚠️

**Update: Ollie is now going to be adopted through Lab Rescue QLD. The link will be posted in the comments when it is available. **

Meet Ollie! 🐶

Ollie is a beautiful Labrador boy turning 6 on 17 November. Through no fault of his own, he came into care of a foster carer who said she would find him a home and has reached out to us at Monier Vets.

Ollie was vaccinated in the last week and is desexed, microchipped, and current with his flea, tick, worm, and heartworm treatment. He is a healthy, happy boy.

Ollie loves his people and enjoys the company of other dogs. He prefers the smaller ones but is currently living with big dogs without issues.

He is a real water baby and loves to swim, so he would always appreciate a beach trip or a clam shell pool in the backyard 💦.

He does not appear to have fear of storms, is not destructive with chewing, does not dig or try to escape, and is generally a good boy.

If you are or know someone who is interested in adopting this beautiful boy, please let us know on 3279 3999😍

No one likes creepy crawlies, especially on our pets! 🤢This spooky season, we are highlighting the importance of parasite prevention. With having 7 patients recently seen with a tick (and one human owner!), it is important to note that ticks are very active in the area.🕷🦟🕸

Many parasites that infest or cause disease in animals also harm people. In fact, one out of every four zoonotic illnesses (i.e. diseases that are passed from animals to humans) can be linked to parasites that affect our pets. This is why parasite prevention in animals provides protection for the people around them.

External pet parasites like fleas can also cause bites and irritation in humans, while ticks can spread ‘vector-borne diseases’ from animals to people. Internal parasites like roundworms, hookworms or tapeworms can also infect people through accidental or improper handling of animal waste or contact with environments contaminated with animal parasite eggs and larvae. In vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, or immunocompromised, an infection with disease like Toxocariasis, which is caused by parasites, can be dangerous and potentially life-threatening.😲

This is why its important to keep up to date with your pet’s parasite treatments, not only for your pet’s health but also for your family’s!

There are many products available, so please talk to our friendly staff about what product will best suit your pet!

⚠️PSA: There is a brand-new product on the market coming soon that will control a WHOLE YEAR of external parasite protection with just one injection! If you are interested in finding out more, call the clinic on 3279 3999!⚠️

Although this looks like it could be a baby shark (and some would argue that puppies are like baby sharks), this x-ray is actually the picture of a 12 week old puppies upper jaw! 🦈

Puppies begin teething at around 3 weeks, and by approximately 6 weeks, all of their deciduous teeth will have erupted. The incisors (at the front of the mouth) and the canine teeth (the fangs) erupt first, followed by the premolars. Dogs do not have any baby molars. At around 12 weeks, the deciduous teeth begin to fall out, and the permanent teeth begin to erupt. Normally by 6 months of age, all permanent teeth have erupted, and all deciduous teeth have fallen out.

Sometimes these baby teeth do not fall out on their own OR they interupt the way the adult teeth are growing in, in which case it is beneficial to remove the baby teeth before they damage the adult teeth!

If you need help with dealing with puppy (baby 🦈's mouth) teething, or the health of your puppies mouth please talk to one of our lovely nurses who are happy to help 😍

Through no fault of his own, this little guy was surrendered to the clinic. He was such a beautiful, trusting little soul even though he had been through so much within the 10 months he had been alive. Dr Lucilla couldn't bare to send him to the pound where we would not know his outcome.

He had previously been known by 2 different names, Snoop Dog and Charlie. So in honour of his previous life, he became known to us as "Snoopy" which was a combination of the two names. He came home with each of the vets and thrived. He loves other dogs and cats and bonded so quickly to everybody. We knew he would be the perfect dog for someone 💕

Dr Lucilla castrated and vaccinated him out of her own pocket in order to prepare him for his new furrever home.

We had a dedicated owners who had recently just lost their senior pet, and as fate would have it.... they called us to see if we knew any pets that needed adopting. They came down to meet him, and although Snoopy was scared at first, he was sitting on his new mums lap and lounging on the couch within taking him home for a trial. It's pretty safe to say that Snoopy has now found his furrever family 💕

Everyone at Monier Vet couldn't be happier for him, and he couldn't be happier with his new family.

⚠️ PSA: A portion of the Monier Village carpark will be closed from the 19th-21st of Septemeber!⚠️

This means it may take more time than normal to find a park. We would recommend leaving a little earlier than you normally would to ensure you can find a carpark in time for your appointment!

We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause.
