🌹ROSEHIPS (Rosa canina) The hips (fruit) of the dog rose are a source of readily assimilated forms of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, including – vitamins C, A, B1, B2, B3  and K, bioflavonoids (including rutin), carotenoids, tannins, calcium, magnesium, silica, phosphorous and copper.
🔹As well as being considered a herb dietary supplement, rosehips are often fed to horses recuperating from illness or injury as they help to restore the immune system and aid tissue repair. 
🔹Feeding Rosehips as part of the daily diet is beneficial for preventing illness. The vitamin C in rosehips acts as a natural antihistamine, which can assist the allergy-prone horse.
🔹Bioflavonoids, as well as having potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity, enhance vitamin C’s ability to strengthen blood vessel walls, and this effect contributes to rosehips’ reputation for encouraging healthy hoof growth.  🔹Rosehips can also help alleviate gastric inflammation and diarrhoea.

🌼Calendula has been shown to help wounds heal faster, possibly by increasing blood flow and oxygen to the affected area, which helps the body grow new tissue. It is also used to improve skin hydration and firmness.

The dried petals of the calendula plant are used in tinctures, ointments, and washes to treat burns, bruises, and cuts, as well as the minor infections they cause.

Calendula also has been shown to help prevent dermatitis or skin inflammation in people with breast cancer during radiation therapy.

Today, calendula is not usually taken by mouth. The exception is when it is used in extremely small amounts in homeopathic preparations. Calendula is usually applied topically, to the skin.

🪴Comfrey has been used for thousands of years as an herb with the abilities to mend broken bones.  Comfrey is considered to have the same results for horses in mending bone. It is also considered to have the same result on wounds, tendons, fractures, sprains, ulcers and cartilage.  

Its herbal properties help control swelling and pain initially proceeded by the rapid repair of damage cells.
The allantoin content in Comfrey is believed to accelerate the production of replacement cells, thereby minimising the possibility of scar tissue, arthritis and proud flesh.

A must have herb, easy to grow at home, fresh leaves can be used for poultices, roots can be dried and infused into olive oil to make hoof oil, leaf and root can be made into ointments.

Do you have an unhappy moody horse or Pony?

Calm-A-Mare is a special dry blend of herbs containing Chaste Tree Berries, Chamomile, Raspberry Leaf, Vervain and Hops.

Suggested Dosage – Pony 25-30g, Cob 30-40g & Horse 40-50g daily.

Add the required dose to a suitable container, pour boiling water over to cover and let brew for 10-15 minutes. Allow to cool then pour the entire mixture in to the feed.

Saturday I had the pleasure of attending the Inglewood in October FEI endurance ride and watching sponsored horse Al Jeda Hammerli (Mojo) compete in 1* 100km ride. It was a great day spent with the Al Jeda Arabians team and watching all their hard work pay off. Mojo completed the ride and place 6th overall. Congratulations team and Mojo’s rider Camille Fitton.
