This pretty pullet was almost heading to a new home on Friday but was swapped out last minute!! My daughter and I have taken a real liking to her, 😍 I wouldn't be surprised if she becomes a permanent part of The Silkie Shed family!!

Everyone is tucked away nicely, ready for some sweet dreaming!
I still put the cover wall up over night, keeping the babies in the nesting box until I remove them first thing in the morning. I do this for two reasons:
1. They are safe from yard predators e.g. snakes
2. Silkies can get tangled and choke from their mums feathers. If they end up 'hanging', they can be dragged along whilst mum moves around.
This way, I can free or untangle any before mum gets up. No matter how much I keep an eye on mums feathers, they are renound for being matted!

They don't last, they don't keep your chickens dry and they aren't cheap! They're only good for standing on... the girls clearly agree!

Foraging and scratching about, is their best way to spend a day out!
It's great for the grounds and for their health too, keep it up girls there's plenty more to do!

Showing off a Silkie Shed specialty!! Last year when I was breeding loads of babies, I designed this nesting box to make life a little easier. The hen sits on her eggs for the 21 days and then once they've hatched, I can lower the front wall/door so the babies can easily get in and out!!
