🌟Equine Bit Fit Australia Sponsored and Ambassador Riders 2023 Highlights 🌟

As 2023 comes to a close it is a fantastic opportunity to highlight the amazing achievements of our sponsored team.

Natasha Cockburn
Tash has had a huge competition year this year with Frankie (Wilkara Funomenal ) competing at DJWTS as a 4 yr old and Noodle (Coldstream Ulysses) competing for the 2nd time at the Australian Dressage Championships and qualifying for his freestyle, he also made it onto the Dressage SA high performance squad. In addition to these brilliant performances Tash was the extremely worthy recipient of the Lindy Wright Memorial Award (this annual prestigious award recognises individuals striving for excellence in Dressage in South Australia). Well done Tash- Huge Congratulations 🎉

Heather Ford
Heather’s highlights have included her young horse Henry going out and doing his first novice tests, scoring mid 60’s on limited outings and her and Tuscany competing in their first 2* event. This accomplishment was made even more special as Tuscany came back from a very serious colic episode straight into her first 2* competition. Heather and Tuscany also competed at Sydney International 3DE. They are now qualified for 3* and are on track to debut at this level in 2024. Well done Heather.

Danni Hampton
Danni’s highlights are placing 4th on Ollie in the Speed Class in the Part 3 Class at the Royal Adelaide Show and having Dylan step up to 1* eventing, (placing 2nd at his first start) SJ 110-115cm (Placing 5th in the 110 Championship Class at the Strathalbyn SJ Club Jim Dunn Memorial Show in November) and qualifying for 2*. Fantastic results Danni.

Jaimie Stichel
Jamie has had a very busy year with her team. Her highlights include Reynella Horse Trials 1* placing 3rd on Kenlock Super Salute and 4th on Toto Wolf J. Milang Horse Trials 1* placing 3rd on Toto Wolf J and Ballarat Horse Trials CCI 2* placing 10th on Toto Wolf J. Great work Jaimie.

Courtney Munro
Courtney has also been very busy with her team and her biggest highlight this year is her and Trevor competing in their first CCN1*L in his debut Eventing season. Fantastic achievement well done.

All the girls are set for a very exciting 2024!

Equine Bit Fit Australia is very excited to welcome Heather Ford. Our newest Ambassador to the team.

Heather is a pilot and flys full time for the RFDS. When she is not up in the air she is riding and competing her two wonderful horses Isle of Tuscany (Tuscany) and Isle of Grandeur (Henry).

Tuscany her eventer is well established at 1* level. They have had numerous top 10 finishes and placings both locally and interstate. They plan on stepping up to 2* level this year and have Melbourne 3DE firmly in their sights. Their ultimate goal is to compete at the Adelaide International Horse Trials.

Henry was bred to be an eventer however he grew too much and according to Heather ‘doesn’t own any brave pants’. Henry’s forte lies in the dressage area. With limited outings at Preliminary, for numerous wins and placings. Their short term goal is to be competing elementary by the end of this year. With the ultimate aim of competing at Advanced/FEI levels.

Both horses have an exciting future ahead. We certainly look forward to working in partnership with Heather and her team as they work towards their goals.

What a great day to be bit fitting! The weather certainly turned it on today. I spent the morning working with the very lovely Mette Dabinette from Performance Saddlefits SA and her gorgeous mare Asha. Asha is just commencing her ridden career and her reaction to being fitted with the Fager Sara Titanium Fixed Ring was lovely to see. She was rhythmically forward and instantly sought the contact with a lovely feel in hand. Asha found the lightness, stability and even pressure distribution of the bit very comfortable. It was lovely to see such a young horse so comfortable in the mouth.

I am very excited to announce the addition of Fager Bits and bitting accessories to my bit fitting kit and purchase stock. Fager is a Swedish brand developed in conjunction with veterinarians and based on scientific design.

Fager design each bit with a particular type of horse in mind. The focus is on pressure points and each bit is developed to divide the pressure to the areas where your horse feels the most comfortable.

Already I have had fantastic outcomes with the Fager range. Please do not hesitate to contact me for more information or to arrange a bit fitting.

🌟Equine Bit Fit Australia’s Horse/Pony of the month🌟

🐴 June’s Horse of the month is the lovely Balzac owned and ridden by Kim Jones🐴

Balzac a 12yo OTTB who was retired from the track in March 2019. He is now starting his new Eventing/Dressage career with Kim. During his fitting session Balzac presented as the very smart but sensitive horse that he is to respond to even the slightest change.

Balzac responded instantly to the tongue relief action of the DC Dressage Happy Tongue Swivel. He became consistent, steady and light in the contact and was very happy to travel forward into a lovely outline. Kim has been very happy with how Balzac has been progressing in the DC Dressage Happy Tongue Swivel as he is focussed, consistent and very willing to work.

Kim and Balzac’s recent success in winning the Monaro Horse Trials Open Grade 5 and the Super Cross with a 3rd in the Combined training event certainly indicates a wonderful competition future ahead.

Today I got to work with the lovely Lynn Ruesseler and her beautiful mare Tinka. Lynn was the successful bidder of a personalised bit fitting donated by Equine Bit Fit. The session was auctioned by Lizzy Ritchie for her Welsh Pony Rescue and Rehoming Operation cause. Lizzie also kindly donated the use of her Pottery Road Equestrian Centre Indoor arena for the session.
Lynn trialled a selection of bits with a stand out positive response coming from Tinka in the Fager Sara Titanium Fixed Ring. It was a great morning working with Lynn and Tinka.

🌟Equine Bit Fit Australia’s Horse/Pony of the month🌟

🐴 May’s Horse of the month is the eye catching, extremely impressive and very talented Belrieve Squeak aka ‘Squeak’ 🐴

Squeak a 9yo Warmblood x Australian Stock Horse is owned and ridden by event rider Courtney Munro. Courtney is currently completing at 2* with Squeak and has her sights firmly set on the elite levels.

Courtney describes Squeak to be a super keen jumper but very sensitive and difficult to touch in the mouth. In the past she has battled to find a bit that Squeak consistently responded too. All bits have either ended up becoming too strong for him or not enough her her.

Courtney is thrilled with Squeaks response to being fitted with the Bombers Eggbutt Waterford Cable Barrel. Courtney reports that she now had has found the perfect amount of control for brakes and turning with out being over bearing. Squeak has been in his Waterford bit for over 4 months now which Courtney states is a record for him!

Belrieve Squeak and Courtney are an extremely impressive and exciting combination to watch. They are certainly a duo to who are destined for great success.

🌟 Equine Bit Fit Australia’s Horse/Pony of the month 🌟

🐴 April’s Horse of the month is the striking talented and beautifully patterned Porsches Mighty Gun Askari aka ‘Lu’ 🐴

Lu a 9 yo Appaloosa x Warmblood gelding is owned and ridden by event rider Jess Steel.
I first saw Lu just over a year ago when Jess was seeking a more comfortable dressage bit for him. At the time Lu was reluctant to stretch forward and take any contact at all. A change into the DC Dressage Bomber Blue saw immediate positive results.
Lu went from dropping through the back producing an almost “bridle lameness” when asked to work in a competition frame to immediately becoming confident in the contact to work in a more elegant frame with a longer relaxed neck.
Just recently I saw Lu again for a jump bit fitting. Jess needed a bit that gave her control without offending Lu. The 2 1/2 ring Ported Barrel was the answer. Jess now has response, control and guidance on course. 2 weeks after being fitted with the 2 1/2 Ring Ported barrel Lu jumped clear around Reynella Horse Trials to finish on his dressage score for 3rd place. The results speak for themselves.
Jess and Porsches Mighty Gun Askari are certainly a great partnership to look out for.

Photography credit for the great photos of Jess Steel and Lu go to the very talented Emma Kalderovskis.

🌟 Equine Bit Fit Australia’s Horse/Pony of the month🌟

🐴 March’s Horse of the month is the highly intelligent (abeit quirky) and beautiful Almazaan Elementary aka ‘Sherlock’🐴

Sherlock is a 7yo partbread Arabian Gelding. Home bred, owned and ridden by Jodie Luck of Almazaan Stud. Purpose bred for endurance competition Jodie has brought Sherlock on with the utmost focus on his mental and physical wellbeing.

Important to Jodie is that her endurance horses learn to carry their heads low and have a nice shape from poll to tail. Sherlock being the highly intelligent but quirky horse his is was with out doubt one of the more challenging fits I have done but he was so much fun and taught us all a lot!

Sherlocks response to the Bombers Eggbutt Ported Barrel was really exciting to witness. He was so much happier from the moment he was fitted with the bit. He was instantly much more willing to take up the contact. Interestingly his habitual head tossing all but disappeared with his want to travel with his nose forward to the contact and he went from having a tail flick to a soft tail swish as he happily travelled forward. Jodie also found that Sherlock had always been very dry in the mouth but in the ported barrel he is salivating for the first time.

Sherlock and Jodie have just recently completed his qualifying ride in his new bit and Jodie couldn’t be happier with the way he travelled. Jodie’s beautiful smile says it all!

🌟 Equine Bit Fit Australia’s Horse/Pony of the Month 🌟

🐴 February’s Horse of the month is the strikingly impressive with talent to boot Holstiner mare Isle of Tuscany 🐴

Tuscany as she is known is owned, trained and ridden by event rider Heather Ford. Tuscany is a 9 yo Holstiner mare who Heather has owned since she was an unbroken 4yo. Heather started her under saddle herself which was the foundation to the wonderfully strong partnership they share today.

Tuscany is a very sensitive horse in every aspect with bitting being no exoection, preferring a lighter contact in her work.

I have been working with Heather and Tuscany for just over a year now and in that time Tuscany has had a few bit changes. At present for jumping Tuscany is ridden in a Bombers 2 1/2 Ring Ported Barrel. Heather is extremely happy with the feel and response. Tuscany is happy, responsive and light in the contact which is allowing for a better connection and flow on course.

For dressage Tuscany has recently changed from the DC Dressage Bomber Blue to the Eggbutt Ported Barrel. As she is now more established on the flat she is starting to carry herself and come up from behind. Heather has found the Ported Bartel allows for more fine tuned aids and a sweeter happier response from Tuscany.

Heather and Tuscany are a very talented duo who are certainly well and truely on their way to a very successful eventing future

Equine Bit Fit Australia

An accumulation of years of experience in the equine industry (working and competing) and formal training has led to a sound and educated knowledge base in fitting a bit to the horses anatomical shape and mouth/head sensitivities. Having an Associate Diploma in Applied Science (Horse Husbandry and Management) and being a qualified Veterinary Nurse and a Registered Nurse I have an excellent understanding of anatomy and skeletal function and movement. My fitting sessions work on the Bombers philosophy that

Pressure = Resistance Resistance = Lack of control

Each individual bit fitting session is approximately 1 ½ hrs. The fitting session is comprised of three parts. The first part comprises of documenting your horse’s history and under taking an assessment, examination and width measurement of your horse’s mouth and jaw. From there I will look at the bit you have been using and ask that you ride in your existing bit to assess how your horse travels. Taking all this into account I will then work with you to have you trial a selection of Bombers bits with the ultimate aim to find a bit that your horse readily accepts and travels forward, relaxed and comfortably in. A happy horse requires the correct bit to support their ability to perform at their very best. Ultimately as horse owners and riders we all just want our horses to be happy and a ‘Bit Fit horse is a Happy Horse’.

I am available for individual sessions or clinics. Price is dependent on location. Please don't hesitate to contact me for a consultation price.
