Little Millie has been at SEAWL for over 2 months. She has had lots of interest and gets visitors with their dogs on site to meet her for a potential adoption 🙂 BUT....
She is an expert fence jumper and requires high fencing to keep her safe at home if unsupervised outside. We understand this is a hard ask for the average home owner to provide. Hence why she is still here !
Millie is of wonderful nature and is obsessed with humans, plays well with other friendly dogs, house/toilet trained and does not yap or dig. Knows basic commands now. Would make a perfect companion wherever she went in public with you and only wants to be included. Easily entertained, social and trainable.

A trend seems to be happening lately with the breeding of small breed puppies that are suddenly appearing everywhere for sale 🤔
We wish to advise the Community if you have purchased a puppy from a breeder and it is unable to be returned to them...we are sorry for the puppy but we are unable to prioritise your circumstances over our current waiting list for surrender. Please always phone first before driving out to us to dispose of your unwanted dog instantly. Very young puppies do not belong in a Shelter !
Our dogs for rehoming are all different personalities but they share similar stories ~ Starting families who didn't understand them and didn't have the right tools to help them.

We do not have the support of large organisations or Governments.
Our funding comes from generous, kind hearted supporters who love animals 💙 Thank you.
In South Australia not all Councils assist with cat management. A stray cat on a property is the responsibility of the home owner.
Please note we require an appointment to be booked on a future surrender day and a small fee is required on the day. The cat will undergo a handling test for suitability to be housed in the Shelter environment for rehoming and for health. We have policies and procedures to follow, it is not an instant fix to rehome a cat.
If you have been advised by someone to simply "take the cat to SEAWL" this is incorrect and uninformed.
It continues to be a crisis for all of us.

Everyone knows and loves Indi, and knows we have stated her as only dog in the home.
During her stay here at SEAWL, Indi became reactive to all other dogs and could not be around them. We reached out to the amazing Instinctual Canine for help with Indi for a training lesson on her reactivity to dogs.
Indi is a dog who was let out first everyday, and back in last to ensure she did not come in contact or see another dog. After two hours of training, her progress was something that truly took our breath away and melted our hearts.
Indi was able to walk past other dogs with no reactions. She was able to be on a long loose leash that wasn’t held walking around with our testing dog at SEAWL with no issues.
Indi has a long way to go, we will be keeping up with the amazing training Indi (and staff) recieved today from John to help Indi keep this amazing progress going and get her the best loving home she really does deserve.
We are hoping an experienced dog handler will come to adopt Indi and keep up her training. With how far she came in two hours today, there is no telling how far she can still come. She truly thrives off human praise.
Again, a massive thank you to Instinctual Canine for giving Indi and us your time today with a complimentary session. We cannot thank you enough for the help you gave us all.

Shelby is a lovely dog who is good with other dogs and cats.
She loves to play fetch and is very good at bringing the toy back to you.
She is fully house and toilet trained.
Shelby can be a little bit too excited with kids but is very tolerant of them.
Shelby will need high fencing as she can jump fences in the home. Perfect behaviour here at SEAWL and is in our standard day yard 😊

RUSTY kitten (formerly Marmalade) was found on a secluded walking trail by a dog walker. He was petrified of the human world. He had a few initial problems adjusting to domesticated life but now nearly one year later...he is showing us who really runs the household 🧡
STELLA Dog recently adopted and in her new home. Anyone who met her, knew she was always watching 👀 Currently tap dancing her way into their hearts !
Thank you to all that adopt and allow animals time to decompress in a loving and safe environment. Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's hard but always very rewarding.

Mount Gambier Police have returned a Staffy Puppy to its home
On Sunday 30 May, Mount Gambier police received a report of a Staffordshire Puppy that had gone missing from a Mount Gambier home.
An astute officer has seen a man with the pup whilst on a routine patrol and after speaking with the officer the man returned the puppy to police.
The pup has now been safely returned to his grateful owners.
Police are investigating the manner by which the pup came to be in the man’s possession.

FELLA the Staffy who has Cauliflower Ears (both ears). This is a direct result of selfish original owners neglecting ear infections and leaving him to suffer without seeking Veterinary treatment 😢 This does not happen overnight !

A massive thank you to SAPOL and the community. Police recieved new footage today that they were able to confidently identify the person with Astrid last week.
They went for a visit and here she is.

These are great dogs waiting for their chance to shine, overlooked dogs needing love and those that wait for someone to notice them.
Shelters are in crisis all around the Country. We all deal with irrational humans with extreme emotions who demand insane things.
Rehoming is a team effort. From creating awareness on the internet to the boots on the ground...and everyone in between. Hard work and dedication helps these dogs get adopted to homes filled with loved. Some of these dogs have yet to experience that 💙

It's been a few years since we rehomed SCOUT. He was emaciated and with us for a very long time before being adopted.
His adopters re fenced their entire property to keep him contained, worked with a dog trainer and persevered through difficult stages.
He is now healthy, gets along with the house cats and has a little friend for company. A true fairy tale ending ✨️
FORREST Cat was returned twice. He scared people and was not a friendly cat. Now he is king of his country castle and he is even sharing his life with a kitten sister called Ottie

Tonight is the night to put our beautiful, longest term dog on everyone’s feeds and find her a home!!
😭Today marks JenJen’s 90th day with us at SEAWL, her puppy dog eyes are looking at you and asking you why? And how??
Jen is a beautiful dog. She is 1 year old, loving, kind, eager to please and learn. She would thrive in another dog household as she is dog friendly and loves to play under the fence with our other dogs, and run around at the dog park with them! Jen is house & toilet trained leaving her kennel next to perfect every single night.
Unfortunately we have to put it down to Jen having no interest due to her breeds, as it cannot possibly be anything else! Why is it this way with the bully breeds? They are incredibly loyal!
Jen, SEAWL staff & volunteers hope that shortly around the corner someone will come and take her home to a loving, caring home. 90 days she has woken up in a shelter, 90 days she has gone to sleep without having a family to call her own… 90 days she has questioned, why me? Why this life for me? Why does no one love or want me?
We hope she doesn’t have to ask herself those questions for much longer.

WAFFLES available for adoption is now 7-8 months old. He has been with us for a couple of months and he would love a home ! This video was taken yesterday. It's the complete opposite of his usual behaviour towards other dogs in the day yards. Please take the time to understand...away from all the chaos, Waffles is a lovely well mannered young boy. Paired with a suitable friend (as in the video) in a controlled environment...Waffles is not a problem 🙂 Bookings are essential onsite for meets, we are a small team and all the dogs here need our attention equally. AJ (aka Mohawk) available for adoption has found his singing voice 😍 EDIT ~ Adopted 24/4/24 Huge milestone for an unowned kitten who was unhandled and unfamiliar with domestic situations. He is doing well since arriving in the cattery from foster care. He is still learning to adjust from Stranger Danger mentality 😅 All they need is time and understanding. AJ loves chicken meat, spending time with his friends and all his toys. He is an easy kitten.
Come with SHEBA (available for adoption) on an inspection of the night kennels. All the dogs are out enjoying day yard time. The kennels are clean and ready to be used for the night. *EDIT ~ Sheba now adopted SHEBA has been with us the longest, so gets special privileges 😊 We are currently at capacity and have a waiting list for surrender
Sad update on SIMBA 💘 He crossed the Rainbow Bridge this morning. We thank the family who adopted him and welcomed him into their hearts, even though it was only for a very short time. We are sorry you didnt get to enjoy much time with him. You arrived in his time of need and are true Angels. Much respect to you. Simba's remaining time on this Earth was limited and he was together with his house mate Shadow. He gave up the fight with his existing medical conditions and was made comfortable. He passed away in his sleep. Simba came to us as a recent owner surrender, we were not informed by them that he was on borrowed time or supplied with any Vet history or that they had taken him off his medication. Only that he needed a groom..his skinny body was full of matted fur. It was obvious to us he was in God's waiting room and then later it was Vet confirmed...Simba was in final stages of life and dying. Simba created much interest as a Maine Coon but only one family was brave enough to take him home and accept his circumstances. Big hearts are needed when times are tough. He was only 6 years old. RIP Simba 🌈
JEN JEN on the notorious walk down the main aisle of the day yards 🐾 Quick video to show that our resident Mrs Jessop aka Esme Watson Neighbourhood Watch gossip dog...NEARLY made it past the first gate without having a stickybeak 🤣 Note ~ Dogs are normally walked to and from their day yards on a short leash and kept close to the handler to prevent any issues at gates. This is just to show Jen's progress on normal lead (without instruction or her harness) but it failed as she is easily distracted. She is still learning her on leash manners and is a work in progress. Smart dog needing a chance 💙
SHEBA and JEN would love a home with a companion dog. Both have not had any interest for adoption, which is a shame as they are super dog social, fun loving girls 💙 These 3 have formed a bond, so before the "Karen type" of comments appear...all dogs in the Shelter are allowed to have fun. We don't process robots here 😄 This video occurred at pack up time and they do this often.

Suitable to be rehomed with another dog who tolerates her annoying nature. The other dog in the video knows hand signals to ignore her. Any dog adopted receives free/complimentary training sessions from a professional dog trainer K9's with KAZ 🐾
