How to get involved with your local branch

As AWL NSW branches are run by volunteers they are always in need of new faces to join their dedicated teams. There are many roles/opportunities available to help animals at your local branch, some of which may include:

Donations: Every branch needs donations in order to survive and continue their work with local animals. Contact your local branch to make a donation, or participate in one of their fundraising events. Events: Branches regularly participate in events to help raise money for their cause. This may be anything from a BBQ at Bunnings to a stall at a local fair. Events are a great way to be involved with your local branch if you can’t commit to set days every week. Fundraising: You can raise money for your local branch by initiating your own fundraising activities. Coin drives at your school and placing donation tins at your place of work are great ways you can raise money to help animals. Foster care: If you have space at your place for an animal awaiting a home you may be able to foster through your local branch. Fostering is a great hands-on experience which gives you the opportunity to see first-hand the difference you’re making. Animal transportation: Sometimes animals in branch care need to travel for appointments and their foster parents or other branch members may not be available to do it. If you have reliable transportation and would like to “help when you can” you can offer your animal transportation services to your local branch. Store assistant: Some of our branches run op shops in their local area. You can help by committing to a regular shift which may involve serving customers or sorting through incoming donations. Admin: Like all organisations, AWL NSW Branches must complete paperwork and hold regular meetings which require minute taking. If you have admin experience you may be able to lend your skill set to your local branch. Photography: Branches that are involved in rehoming animals always need good photography to showcase their animals in the best light. If you have a knack for photography and a love of animals your local branch may be able to utilise your skills.

Sparky has been adopted and leaves for his forever home tomorrow, but please, don’t worry, we have more just like Sparky.

We do get some of the most adorable little critters. Charlie is at the top of our list for ticking all the boxes you need for a new best friend

Are you lonely? Does your house feel way too quiet? Do you want a bestie who literally cannot mind her own business? Then you need Charlie, the ginger pocket rocket who is so obsessed with humans she practically needs her own VIP lanyard.

Charlie is gentle, lovable, and extremely chatty — like, she has THINGS to say and you will be listening. She will es**rt you everywhere (yes, even there), warm your bed, wake you up, review your meals, taste-test anything, and watch every show, reel, and TikTok with full commentary.

She’s only one year old, which means she’s playful, hilarious, and a whole entertainment package.
BUT — she wants to be your one and only. No other cats, no dogs, no sharing the spotlight. Charlie is a strictly “humans only” kind of queen.

If you’re ready for love, laughs, and a ginger girl who’ll stick to you like Velcro, come meet Charlie. She’s waiting to make your life so much better.

Charlie has an adoption fee of $200 , even though she will argue she is worth triple that much.

Adoption fee $200 includes:
Desexed
Vaccinated
Microchipped
Lifetime registered.

Does anyone know someone willing to adopt 20 or so kittens ? No ? Oh , that’s a shame because
we are drowning in kittens again — and it all comes back to the same simple thing: please desex your cats.

Every year we pick up the pieces, and every year there are more.
Yes, they’re adorable… but they deserve better than being “someone else’s problem”

If people desexed their cats, we wouldn’t be sitting here surrounded by enough kittens to start our own cuddle-based cult.
But here we are — again — doing what others won’t.

And there is another wave coming in.
All preventable.

The solution is simple: DESEXING.
The workload is not.
If you can help by adopting, fostering, or donating toward vet bills, we’d be incredibly grateful

We have put up random photos of some of our kittens. Most , not all , are still not big enough to leave foster care. If one , or two, catch your eye, message our page and we can provide more information.
You can also message or ring us on 0458301370.

All our kittens have a $200 adoption fee. This includes:
Desexing
vaccines to date
Microchipping
Flea/worm treatment
Lifetime registration.

Don’t you love rescue ? It’s so rewarding ! Filled with sweet , playful little balls of fluff curled up on your lap and relieving the stress gathered in your days… said not us lately 😂

Okay so remember Kyla? Our superhero foster catmum who raised TEN newborn kittens like some kind of fluffy single mother warrior? Yeah, her.
Well buckle up, because she has officially entered her main character era.

She got adopted by the most amazing new mum ever, everything was perfect… for one hour.
Because obviously Kyla couldn’t just chill and act normal—she had to be extra.
So she ESCAPED. At the Mt Ousley rest stop. And then straight into the bush like she was auditioning for Survivor: Cat Edition.

Her new family tried everything to get her back but nope—Princess Drama Pants said, “catch me if you can.”

So what do we do?
Oh, you know, just head out at 11pm on a random night to go rescue this tiny furry chaos machine.

Mt Ousley at night is NOT giving friendly vibes. Highway noise, pitch-black bush, creepy rustling everywhere. And yes, we jumped a barbed wire fence because we thought that was the only way—then found out later there was a TOTALLY NORMAL walking track we could’ve used. Classic.

We tried catching her until 2am. She’d come close enough to be like “hi :)” then run away like a little criminal. Food? Treats? Sweet talking? Nope. She was on her villain arc.

So we gave up at 2am, went home half-dead, and came back at sunrise because apparently we’re insane but also dedicated.

AND SHE WAS THERE.
Just sitting on a tree trunk like she owned the entire mountain. But the second we moved one step closer? She zoomed back into the bush like a fluffy missile.

We spent HOURS crawling through dense bush, collecting leeches and spiders like Pokémon. THANK GOD there were no snakes or we would’ve straight-up passed away.

Finally we set up a trap and backed off.

Meanwhile her new mum , BOOKED A HOTEL nearby, and was like, “We are NOT leaving without this cat.” Iconic behaviour.

And guess what?
It WORKED.
By 9pm, Kyla marched into the trap like, “okay fine, I’m hungry.”

She got delivered to her new home safe and sound, where the security is now Fort Knox level because… well, it’s Kyla.

Right now she’s lying on the bed, making biscuits, getting chin scratches and eating everything like the spoiled queen she truly is.

Honestly?
She earned it.
But wow… we also earned a nap.

❤️❤️Billie has been adopted ❤️❤️

👑 Queen Billie Needs a Palace (ASAP!)
Okay, seriously, meet Billie. She's stunning, super gentle, and legit the biggest purr machine ever. She was rescued from a rough spot (death row, ugh), but she's ready to be your everything.
Forget finding "the one"—this cat will make you feel complete the second she’s chilling on your lap. She is the cuddliest, most people-loving cat, even though people totally let her down before.
She needs a glow-up and a fresh start. Basically, she needs a castle where she can be the Queen.
She us totally fine with other cats. Dogs? She's cool, but keep them on mute (from a distance).
Can you give Billie her happiness back and let her rule your life? You will not regret it! Promise!

❤️❤️❤️ADOPTED❤️❤️❤️

🌟 ADOPT ME: KYLA - The Feline Foster Hero 🌟

Age: Approximately 29/1/25
Breed: Gorgeous Calico/Tortoiseshell Mix
Energy Level: Medium/High (loves to follow you everywhere!)

Meet Kyla: A Legend in the Making

Kyla isn't just a cat; she's a certified superhero. Her heart is as massive as her purr, which she used to single-handedly save ten vulnerable kittens. When six tiny orphans were rejected by their mother, Kyla instantly stepped up as their dedicated surrogate mum. Later, she extended her incredible compassion to four more sickly rescues, nursing them back to health with her boundless love and warmth. If you’re looking for a protector with maternal instincts, look no further!

Personality & Quirks

Kyla is a creature of deep devotion and delightful eccentricities:

The Little Shadow: Forget boundaries—Kyla will be your personal shadow, following you from room to room like a dog. If you’re moving, she’s moving, all while narrating the journey with her incessant, charming chatters and trills. She is, quite simply, the chattiest cat you will ever meet.

Lap Jumper, Not Carrier: She strongly dislikes being picked up, but don't worry—she's a massive cuddler! Once she has made the decision to jump onto your lap, she becomes a heavy, purring fixture, actively "making mean biscuits" with unparalleled dedication.

The Food Critic: Mealtimes are an event! Kyla is determined to try everything you eat. Be prepared for a small, insistent paw on your knee, silently demanding a sample of whatever you're enjoying.

Guardian of the Night: When the sun sets, Kyla transforms into your loyal protector. She settles close, standing guard against any perceived evil lurking in the dark, ensuring you sleep soundly.

Ideal Home

Kyla needs a home that understands and respects her boundaries (no picking up, please!) but appreciates her intense, devoted affection. She is an excellent companion for someone who enjoys a truly interactive pet and doesn't mind an endless, low-level conversation.

Ready to be shadowed by a heroic, biscuit-making companion? Apply to adopt Kyla today!

❤️❤️❤️Jinx spoken for ❤️❤️❤️

One species, two siblings — and two totally different personalities!

Jinx – our ginger-and-white boy – is bursting with confidence. He’s the first to explore, the first to climb into your lap for cuddles, and he loves watching videos on your phone (he swears he’s helping!).

Sparky, his beautiful tabby brother, is a touch more reserved at first, but once he warms up, he’s just as affectionate and playful. His sweet nature has even won over the little dog in his foster home!

These boys will be ready for adoption in approximately two weeks — and they can’t wait to find their forever families. ❤️

If you’d like to know more about Jinx or Sparky, please send us a message , or ring 0458301370— we’d love to tell you more about these sweet boys. 💛

💔 A Heartbreaking Update on Hope’s Babies 💔

We’ve been struggling to find the words to share this.
Sweet little Hope, barely more than a kitten herself, gave birth to six tiny babies. She was frightened and unsure — just a baby trying to be a mum.

When her carer found them, they were cold and barely clinging to life. Together we did everything we could to revive them, and for a while, there was hope. But one by one, these precious little souls slipped away, taking pieces of our hearts with them.

We fought for them. They fought too. We honestly believed we were winning. But it wasn’t meant to be. 💔

This is the emotional roller coaster of rescue — moments of joy, heartbreak, and endless love.

Please, desex your pets.
No one should have to go through this — not the scared young mothers, not the innocent kittens, and not the carers who love them.

We are heartbroken. We are sorry. And we will keep fighting for the ones who still need us. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹
