Animal Welfare League NSW - Nowra-Jervis Bay Branch

There are various Animal Welfare League NSW branches located across NSW. These branches are managed and operated by dedicated volunteers.

The purpose of our branches is to better position our organisation to assist companion animals in localised areas. AWL Branches offer the following services:

Caring for surrendered animals

Adopting dogs, cats, puppies and kittens

Assistance with emergency veterinary care for injured animals

Subsidised Desexing Program for financially disadvantaged people to have their animals desexed

Fundrais

ing and events

Building relationships with local Council and community groups to assist with animal welfare issues in the region

Some Branches operate Op Shops where people can make donations and purchase items

North Coast operate a Cat Adoption Centre

Some Branches operate Infolines for pet advice and information
How to get involved with your local branch

As AWL NSW branches are run by volunteers they are always in need of new faces to join their dedicated teams. There are many roles/opportunities available to help animals at your local branch, some of which may include:

Donations: Every branch needs donations in order to survive and continue their work with local animals. Contact your local branch to make a donation, or participate in one of their fundraising events. Events: Branches regularly participate in events to help raise money for their cause. This may be anything from a BBQ at Bunnings to a stall at a local fair. Events are a great way to be involved with your local branch if you can’t commit to set days every week. Fundraising: You can raise money for your local branch by initiating your own fundraising activities. Coin drives at your school and placing donation tins at your place of work are great ways you can raise money to help animals. Foster care: If you have space at your place for an animal awaiting a home you may be able to foster through your local branch. Fostering is a great hands-on experience which gives you the opportunity to see first-hand the difference you’re making. Animal transportation: Sometimes animals in branch care need to travel for appointments and their foster parents or other branch members may not be available to do it. If you have reliable transportation and would like to “help when you can” you can offer your animal transportation services to your local branch. Store assistant: Some of our branches run op shops in their local area. You can help by committing to a regular shift which may involve serving customers or sorting through incoming donations. Admin: Like all organisations, AWL NSW Branches must complete paperwork and hold regular meetings which require minute taking. If you have admin experience you may be able to lend your skill set to your local branch. Photography: Branches that are involved in rehoming animals always need good photography to showcase their animals in the best light. If you have a knack for photography and a love of animals your local branch may be able to utilise your skills.

❤️❤️❤️ Our Welfare Officer , who is in charge of Esmays adoption, has informed us she has been adopted. Esmay will start her life new on acreage with 2 cavalier siblings and monitoring of her anxiety. We wish Esmay and her new family a happy future. ❤️❤️❤️

Remember our 3 gorgeous Ginger boys rescued from an industrial area ? Big Bro , ( now Buffy) Middle
Bro ( Chedder ) and Little Bro ( renamed Bob ).
We have a fantastic update on Buffy.
We really have to pinch ourselves and remind ourselves this 2 year old cat came from a place with little to no human contact. Apart from the wonderful lady that fell in love with the cat family , fed them earned their trust and gave them the opportunity of a new life.

Buffy is just amazing. He has settled into indoor life with a passion. He is quite comfortable with the other cats and kittens , never aggressive towards them and is so wonderfully affectionate with humans.

Buffy had a bath … with the best of cats this can be slightly “awkward”, for want of a better word … but for a cat that has litterally come off the streets ? Well this is his bath day , and I’m finding it hard to believe , but photos and videos don’t lie. He is an awesome little guy.

Buffy also went on his first outing on a harness , and once again , this cat showed us what a real sweetheart he is.

We would love Buffy to go to a relatively quiet family that is prepared to spend time with him and help catch up with all the love and attention he missed out on and obviously longs for.

Cookie and Crème. Trying to get a decent photo of the 2 handsome boys together was interesting to say the least.
Cookie is the one with the double dot on his nose. He is a little less confident than his brother , but is becoming more settled every day. He is loving chin scratches , pats and a soft brush.
Crème on the other hand , is the extrovert of the 2 and loves cuddles , laps , the broom … makes sweeping the floor a really enjoyable experience. He has a little more white on his back.
The boys were born December 23 , and will bring such love to any family. We would love to see them stay together if possible and are happy to reduce the adoption fee to hopefully make that work.
All vet work completed along with lifetime registration.

Do you know we have all sorts of cats that might fit perfectly into your life ?

Yes , we have the gorgeous fluffy ones. The sleek , short haired ones. Some with multi colours and those that are wonderfully one colour only. We have the cuddly ones , the shy and timid ones and those that think they need to be under your chin no matter what. Playful , cheeky , annoyingly adorable and sometimes the naughty ones.
But … we also have ones that are very independent, are not into endless human interaction, like to spend time by themselves and maybe even help keep your rodents under control. Their own little bit of paradise ! A roof over their heads , food on demand , and humans that respect their choices but still care for them.

Sweet , shy , little Lotty feels like she has been left behind after her sister Questy was adopted.
Lotty was born December last year and lived most of her kittenhood trying to survive in a carpark. We were notified and Lotty, her Mum and siblings were rescued and taken in care.
Lotty is still a little wary of humans but she has grown in confidence so much we know she will so appreciate and love her adoptive Pawrents.

Saying goodnight to Middle Bro , aka Chedder , and seeing if he was comfortable… I’m pretty sure he was.

Cheddar is settling so well. He loves pets, chin scratches and has started showing his affection with head butts.
He has had a dental and his little mouth has healed.
We would love him to find his own home before he becomes to attached to this new environment.

Yes, it may take a while for him to decompress and feel secure , but as we have learned , it happens and it’s so rewarding.

What can we say ???
3 Ginger Brothers rescued from a very nasty and unsafe environment by a lovely caring lady.
Once again we were notified of a situation where some cats were very vulnerable and susceptible to harm. One had already been killed by a dog and another by a car. This sweet lady couldn’t bear to see the same thing happen to these brothers…. so here they are.
To recognise them when speaking about them , she had named them Big Bro , Middle Bro and Little Bro… makes sense does it ? It did when we finally met them … Big Bro was definitely bigger and Little Bro was the smallest … Middle Bro fit perfectly in the middle 😬
They are beautifully natured , love chin scratches and purr like little engines. Still a tad wary of new humans , they need a week or two to adjust and heal from a few minor problems… a sore eye, small abscess on tummy , but nothing that we can’t fix.
Desexed , chipped, vaccinated and lifetime registered, they have new names and a positive chance of a new life. One filled with love , not dangers.

The boys are approximately 2 years of age and have. $50 adoption fee.

It’s a little crazy trying to get photos at the moment, we will keep trying ☺️

We were notified by some very caring people that a mum cat and her family of 4 had been living behind their building in Kinghorne St Nowra.
They were being fed and had become very social. The concern was they would meet a very sad end to life either by cars , or becoming too familiar with the wrong people. The good part of them being familiar with humans was it made it a “little” easier to capture them. One week , 5 gorgeous cats. All credit to Lana.

Jimbo has embraced in-house living. Gets on with the carers cats (well one has his nose out of joint and smacks poor JB if he thinks no one is watching )and the small dog. He is also becoming less shy around other people.

We believe Jimbo will settle into a new home with just a little patience and time , and the understanding this sweet boy spent the first 7 months of his life hiding from everyone and everything to survive.
He is funny , has the cutest meow, and a very sweet customer service voice when he is hungry and politely asking to be fed.

Desexed, vaccinated, chipped and lifetime registered, Jimbo has an adoption fee of $100.

Cookie and Cream are sweet friendly brothers born 12/12/23. Their owner passed away unexpectedly and we are now looking for their new homes. Family members have stepped up to assist with the boys , but already having pets , the home is a little crowded.

Cookie and Cream are both little sweethearts. Adventurous , playful and extremely friendly. They have been with other cats but have not been introduced to dogs.
Being siblings , they have spent their lives together. In a perfect world, we would love them to go together , but we also understand that may not be possible. If they do get adopted singularly, we would rather they went to a home that already has a pet. If adopted together, we are happy to do a reduction in adoption fees.

This absolutely gorgeous Silver Tabby , Sabu, is now available and ready to be adopted. We have nicknamed him our Snow Leopard.
Sabu is approximately 18 months old, very friendly and loving to his humans. A very energetic little man , he may play a little rough to start with , supervising initial play times with toddlers would be advisable until he settles.
We believe he will be very accepting of the harness and adventures outside the house. His first experience was very entertaining and his little floofy butt is sooo cute ☺️
Sabu has a reduced adoption fee of $100 for the month of July, as do our other cats needing forever homes now.
Sabu and all our fosters have had all vet work completed and will be lifetime registered.

Well … this happened today and it was amazing ! What you might ask ? A cat climbing all over you while you’re having a very late lunch / early dinner and trying to relax for a bit ? None of that mattered in that moment. Today is the first time Ms Dwyer has voluntarily climbed onto my lap for pets and cuddles outside of her safe space. She has become so confident over the past couple of weeks I’ve had to put her into her “bedroom” of a night so the other household cats can enjoy their established routines without her running the show. Ms Dwyer is a quirky , gangly , funny little girl. From not expecting her to live after a nasty medical episode , to this is just heartwarming. Dwyer is desexed , vaccinated , chipped and lifetime registered. Her adoption fee has been reduced to $100 to help in finding her a loving , understanding home.
