HOT DAYS are here!!!

Personally I don’t use ‘traditional toxic’ parasite prevention.
I have used Neem repellent for 9 years now, even when I lived in QLD in tick prone areas.

Is your pup summer-ready? 🌞🐾

Check off these essentials to keep them cool, comfy, and itch-free all summer long!

🔹 Hydration, Hydration! — Always bring fresh water and a portable bowl for outings. Keeping them hydrated is key! 💧
🔹 Protect Those Paws — Hot surfaces can hurt! Use a paw balm and walk during cooler hours.
🔹 Sun Protection — Apply pet-safe sunscreen on sensitive areas like the nose and ears. Plus, take shade breaks to keep them cool!
🔹 Neem Power 🌿 — Neem-based products help protect against summer skin irritations, itching, and repel pesky bugs, naturally! Perfect for soothing sensitive skin and repelling bugs at bay. All of our neem based products are available at our website. So check it now!
🔹 Cool Down Gear — Cooling mats, frozen treats, and fans or AC to help them chill out indoors and outdoors.
🔹 Insect Defense — Stay on top of flea & tick prevention. Neem-based products are a natural, gentle option for repelling pests!
🔹 First Aid Ready — Pack a small first-aid kit for adventures, and double-check that your pet's ID tags are current.

With these summer essentials (and a little neem protection!), your pup is set for safe, fun adventures! 🐶☀️

YOU USE *WHAT* KIND OF COLLAR??!

Have you noticed that the "instant experts" have decided that every kind of dog collar is the wrong one?

A flat collar, after all, does not stop the dog from pulling, while a slip collar can choke!

Surely no one would greenlight either one!

A pinch collar pinches, while an e-collar shocks.

Surely no one would greenlight either one!

What about a constriction harness or a head halter?

Good lord NO!

The former squeezes the dogs insides and does nothing to stop the dog from pulling, while the later can scrape against the eye and cause corneal damage and neck injury.

After hearing this, if you are terrified that you might "do it wrong," with your new dog, then the message has worked.

You see, so much of this nonsense comes from "click and treat" dog trainers who are intent on selling their services, their books, and their CD-roms.

Their main message is that you are probably incapable of training your own dog without their input.

If you go it alone with a book from the library, you might injure your dog!

Never mind that hundreds of millions of dogs have been trained for thousands of years on six continents without the advice of click-and-treat dog trainers.

The click-and-treat folks want you to know they are here to Save the Day ... provided, of course, you have a credit card.

Part of their pitch is fear.

You aren't an ABUSIVE owner are you? Because they want you to know they do not believe in ABUSIVE dog training.

You don't believe in OUTDATED training methods do you? Because they want you to know they believe in only the LATEST, MODERN methods.

Surely you want to be modern and non abusive?

All right then -- sign up with any of the trainers to be found in the directory!

Now there is nothing wrong with going to a dog trainer (all for it), and there is nothing wrong with click and treat dog training (all for it).

But do me a favor eh? Don't p**s on my leg and tell me it's raining!

Example one is the simple slip collar. It's been used for a thousand years and it works.

I am past 60 years old and I have never seen a dog injured by one, and I bet you haven't either.

I have seen dogs injured by cars, fences, broken glass, hot tar, and nails, but never by a slip collar.

In 2,000 years of dog training, no one seems to have seen widespread neck injures in dogs from proper use of a slip collar.

William Koehler did not see it, nor Barbara Woodhouse. You and I have not seen it. And neither has your veterinarian, I will bet. Have you noticed that your vet puts a plastic slip lead on all the dogs before leading them to the waiting room?

Now to be clear, I am not saying click and treat doesn’t work. Of course it works. You can train a dog to do any number of useful tricks with click and treat.

And if the dog has low drive, and if the owner will tolerate low standards, the dog *might* even be OK off lead.

Might. Maybe. “Most of the time.”

All we know for sure is that Karen Pryor, the guru of click and treat, could not take her own Border Terrier off lead in the forest, and used an electric Invisible Fence to keep it in the yard.

Do you find that shocking? I bet!

So, to reiterate, I am all for click and treat. It’s core dog training and works for a lot of things. I have two well-worn treat bags and you can usually fine a bit of kibble in my pocket. I’m all for rewards-based training and the use of clickers.

But you will pardon me if I hold on to my wallet with one hand and my slip collars and leashes with the other.

You see, I am pretty sure about one thing ....

If someone comes along and tells you that everything that everyone else has been doing for 2,000 years in the world of dogs is entirely wrong, you should RUN (not walk!) in the opposite direction.

Nothing good starts with a lie.

I wanted to share this post of the delicious snack a creative fur parent has made for her dogs!

I alway’s talk food during my lessons with client’s but love to show clever examples of what really can be done.

I have been given permission to share this to you.
There are many options to substitute these ingredients, be sure to consider the pups when you do your fridge cleanse 🙈

Who’s met their dog trainers own dog?
If your dog trainer has absolutely no interest in showing you their dog or helping your dogs training through distractions, I would consider it to be a red flag 🚩.

Bonnie is my Pomeranian and the reason I became a dog trainer to begin with, & who I made all of my mistakes to pass onto you with! 🤭

I take her to lessons with clients who need to socialise & work under distractions with a controlled dog & environment to prompt those real life events!

Bonnie has helped me with a Great Dane right down to a Chihuahua & everything in between.

Dogs learn 10x faster from another dog, that is bad behaviour as well as good behaviour!
Monkey see monkey doo.

How cute is little Clover!!!
This picture was taken during her first visit to the beach where I helped her owner overcome excitement at just about everything 🤭

Clover is a 20 week old puppy who has come to us for training to set her up for life!
She has no behavioural issues and was almost a blank canvas.

In the 3 weeks we have been working together her and her owner have become a fantastic team learning:
Stay
Leave it
Invisible borders - front door dashing
Loose lead walking
Come
Shake
Patience work

No dog is too young or old to start training and building on your relationship!

Contact us today if you have a puppy you would like to set up for life!

Meet Henry!
Isn’t he just the cutest, but just don’t pet him!
We have just finished with Henry who has severe human reactivity.

Henry has absolutely zero trust with strangers & people in general and under no circumstances will let anyone approach him or his owners for any affection.

While my first lesson with Henry did give me some jelly knee moments, I was able to earn his trust over 4 short weeks during our sessions to be able to have a small pat just after this picture was taken.

Henry’s reactivity stems from under socialisation as a puppy, he would stop walking at the driveway and refuse to go into the environment and his owners decided to respect this decision.

We needed to build Henry’s confidence around people, and to trust that his humans were capable of keeping him safe and understanding his cues when he was becoming reactive.

Henry’s owners did an absolutely amazing job with his recovery, it takes a lot of patience and dedication especially when you are anxious yourself from the displayed behaviour.

Everyone who is thinking of getting dogs should read this because you need to understand this reality:

***I am a 21st century dog.***
-I'm a Malinois.
Overskilled among dogs, I excel in all disciplines and I'm always ready to work: I NEED to work.
But nowadays I get asked to chill on the couch all day everyday.

-I am an Akita Inu.
My ancestors were selected for dog fighting.
Today I get asked to be tolerant and I get scolded for my reactivity when another approaches me.

-I am a Beagle.
When I chase my prey, I raise my voice so the hunters could follow.
Today they put an electric collar on me to shut up, and you make me come back to you - no running - with a snap of your fingers.

-I am a Yorkshire Terrier.
I was a terrifying rat hunter in English mines.
Today they think I can't use my legs and they always hold me in their arms.

-I'm a Labrador Retriever.
My vision of happiness is a dive into a pond to bring back the duck he shot to my master.
Today you forget I'm a walking, running, swimming dog; as a result I'm fat, made to stay indoors, and to babysit.

-I am a Jack Russell.
I can take on a fox, a mean badger, and a rat bigger than me in his den.
Today I get scolded for my character and high energy, and forced to turn into a quiet living room dog.

-I am a Siberian Husky.
Experienced the great, wide open spaces of Northern Europe, where I could drag sleds for long distances at impressive speeds.
Today I only have the walls of the house or small garden as a horizon, and the holes I dig in the ground just to release energy and frustration, trying to stay sane.

-I am a border collie
I was made to work hours a day in partnershipwith my master, and I am an unmistakable artist of working with the herd.
Today they are mad at me because, for lack of sheep, I try to check bikes, cars, children in the house and everything in motion.

I am ...
I am a 21st century dog.
I'm pretty, I'm alert, I'm obedient, I stay in a bag...but I'm also an individual who, from centuries of training, needs to express my instincts, and I am *not* suited for the sedentary life you'd want me to lead.
Spending eight hours a day alone in the house or in the garden - with no work and no one to play or run with, seeing you for a short time in the evening when you get home, and only getting a small toilet walk will make me deeply unhappy.
I'll express it by barking all day, turning your yard into a minefield, doing my needs indoors, being unmanageable the rare times I'll find myself outside, and sometimes spending my days sunk, sad, lonely, and depressed, on my pillow.
You may think that I should be happy to be able to enjoy all this comfort while you go to work, but actually I’ll be exhausted and frustrated, because this is absolutely NOT what I'm meant to do, or what I need to be doing.
If you love me, if you've always dreamed of me, if my beautiful blue eyes or my athletic look make you want me, but you can't give me a real dog's life, a life that's really worth living according to my breed, and if you can't offer me the job that my genes are asking, DO NOT buy or adopt me!
If you like the way I look but aren't willing to accept my temperament, gifts, and traits derived from long genetic selection, and you think you can change them with only your good will, then DO NOT BUY OR ADOPT ME.
I’m a dog from the 21st century, yes, but deep inside me, the one who fought, the one who hunted, the one who pulled sleds, the one who guided and protected a herd still lives within.
So think **very** carefully before you choose your dog. And think about getting two, rather than one, so I won't be so very lonely waiting for you all day. Eight or ten hours is just a workday to you, but it's an eternity for me to be alone.
