Geelong Animal Rescue GAR Ltd

GAR is 100% Not-for-profit. All members are unpaid volunteers. As such, we do not have a physical location. GAR charges an adoption fee for all of our animals.

We dedicate our time and effort to the rescue and re-homing of unwanted animals via our foster carer network. Adoption fees are charged to help cover the costs associated with animal rescue. Adoption fees help us cover 50% of our costs only. On top of our vet expenses, we also have animal food, flea & worm treatments, change of ownership fees, public liability insurance & animal transport - just

to name a few. Without the tireless efforts of our fund raising committee and the incredible generosity of the public, GAR could not survive. GAR does not receive any government funding, nor do any GAR members or volunteers receive any payment. GAR financials are prepared by 'Inside Running' accountants and submitted annually to the ACNC (Australian Charity & Not-for-profit Commission), an independent Australian Government regulatory body. PERSEPHONE (LITTLE PEA) | FEMALE - DOMESTIC SHORT HAIR - 5 MONTHS ~ $200

Psst! Let me let you in on a little secret. My government name might be Persephone, but my friends call me Little Pea, so you can too! I’m looking for my forever home. Can you help me?

I’ve been in foster care since I was about 5 weeks old. I was the runt of the litter of 8 and my foster mum didn’t think I would survive but look at me now! My rough start in life didn’t end there. One of my front legs didn’t form quite right, and was causing me lots of pain, so my foster mum made the tough decision with the vets to amputate my leg. Since then, I haven’t looked back! The surgery gave me a new lease on life and I’m a whole new kitten! These days my main hobbies are playing with the two other foster kittens Apollo and Atlas, napping in front of the heater, and playing with my toy mousies.

I also love snuggling with the two resident big cats, and when I’m super lucky, snuggling in foster mum’s bed. I really didn’t like my foster brothers when I first met them, but with some time and patience I’ve grown quite fond of them, so I would definitely enjoy a feline friend in my new home. Foster mum says because I am quite shy, I wouldn’t do well with young kids or hyperactive dogs. She says I need a home with plenty of patience to allow me to come out of my shell in my own time. Could you be my forever family? Can’t wait to meet you!

Hi, I’m Apollo and I’m looking for my forever family. Can you help me?

My foster mum says I am the master of mischief and mayhem, but don’t believe her! Just look at my angelic little face. My main passions are wrestling with my brother Atlas and roommate Little Pea, feathers, and my toy mousie. In fact, my favourite mousie gets confiscated at night by foster mum, because apparently dragging it into her bed and growling at anyone who tries to steal it in the middle of the night is “not polite”. Whatever. I do what I want! You can be sure that wherever trouble is, I’m usually at the centre of it. But I’m innocent, I swear! Foster mum says I’m just lucky I’m cute.

When I’m not zooming around, I do love a good snuggle, either with foster mum or the resident cats. I’ve never been around dogs or kids, but I think I would be okay, as long as they were friendly, and I was given time to adjust. Because of my personality, foster mum thinks I would be best suited to a home with another cat to keep me company, or a family home most of the day to avoid me becoming bored and displaying my artistic (aka destructive) skills where they aren’t wanted. PUMPKIN | MALE - DOMESTIC SHORT HAIR - 4 MONTHS ~ $200

DAPHNE | FEMALE - DOMESTIC SHORT HAIR - 3 MONTHS ~ $200

To my future Forever Home, my name is Daphne. I’m a gorgeous tabby girl with lots of love to give. I came into foster care with my two sisters, Dorothea and Delilah. As much as I love playing with them, I wouldn’t mind going to a home without them as I am quite the independent gal. Although if you are looking for more than one new family member, sharing my home with one or both of them would be fab!

I am very sweet, however please don’t expect me to be myself as soon as I arrive in my forever home. It will take time for me to really show off my personality but once I do feel settled and safe, I will enjoy cuddles and you will hear my loud purrs!

My foster family think I am quite the affectionate and funny little kitty as I do love to lay on your chest if you are relaxing on the couch. Like my sisters, I LOVE watching TV too (especially Bluey)!! I love a good pat, and I think you will also enjoy giving me a pat as my fur coat is very soft and fluffy.

Like all kittens I have sharp claws and teeth so please be mindful of this if you have young children. Although I don’t want to hurt my fellow humans, sometimes my playful mood can get the better of me and I might accidentally give you a scratch.

I also adore my toys! So I would love some toys to play with in my forever home, and a scratching post would be great too!

I have had some experience with cat friendly dogs, and probably with slow introductions I would probably adjust to living with other pets in the house. Oh, and I am litter trained so no problems there!

DOROTHEA | FEMALE - DOMESTIC SHORT HAIR - 3 MONTHS ~ $200

To my future Forever Home, my name is Dorothea although my foster family also call me Thea. I’m a sweet and loving gal with lots of love to give. I came into foster care with my two sisters Daphne and Delilah. I do love to play with them but if going to my forever home means leaving them behind it wouldn’t bother me much because I’m quite a confident kitty once I feel safe in my environment. Although if you are looking for more than one new family member, sharing my home with one or both of them would be fab!

My foster family think I am lovely. At first, I was the shy one among my sisters but once I realised I was safe and sound, I began to show how confident and lovely I really am. I love pats and spending time on the couch with my humans. Like my two sisters, I love watching TV too (especially Bluey)!! I love a good pat, and I think you will also enjoy giving me a pat as my fur coat is soft and shiny like velvet.

GAR busted me out of the pound just in time, I was scheduled to be euthanised due to being an escape artist. Being the athlete that I am, I’m very good at jumping high fences. I’m an affectionate high energy very toy-driven kind of guy. I have had training while in foster care so have learnt how to calmly walk on a lead and will love going on walks with my forever person. I have been reactive to other dogs so will need an owner willing to learn how to correctly manage that side of my personality and an only pet household is a must. GAR will be able to supply a backyard pen for me to help keep me safely in your backyard when left alone but high colourbond secure fencing is a must for my forever home. Our Story

GAR charges an adoption fee for all of our animals. Adoption fees are charged to help cover the costs associated with animal rescue. Adoption fees only cover 50% of our rescue costs. In addition to vet expenses averaging $5,000 per month, GAR also has animal food, flea & worm treatments, change of ownership fees, public liability insurance & animal transport - just to name a few. Without the tireless efforts of our fund raising volunteers and the incredible generosity of the public, GAR could not survive. 29% of GAR’s income is generated by fundraising, and the remaining 21% from donations.

GAR does not receive any government funding, nor do any GAR members or volunteers receive any payment. GAR financials are prepared by 'Inside Running' accountants and submitted annually to the ACNC (Australian Charity & Not-for-profit Commission), an independent Australian Government regulatory body. From all at GAR, THANK YOU: it is only with your support that we can continue to make a difference.
