We love a feel-good Friday rescue story! 💙🙌🏻

Our Rescue Team received a call yesterday from the owner of a Siamese cat (left) that went missing on Wednesday afternoon. This indoor cat was heard by the owner deep down a stormwater drain in Nuriootpa. The Metropolitan Fire Service assisted on the day, however, the noise of them opening the drain scared off the cat.

With a storm fast approaching, our amazing rescue volunteer, Richard, headed to the scene with a cat trap (right). At 1am this morning, the owners were happily reunited with their cat when they checked the drain and found their feline friend sitting on top of the trap. It’s not quite how the trap is supposed to work, but nonetheless, it was a success! 😹👏🏻

I’m a sociable young lad and would be happy to share my furever home with another canine companion, but please bring your dog in to meet me first. 🐾

It was a paw-some day in the office for Hickinbotham Group’s Take Your Dog to Work Day. 🐶💚

Around 20 fur-ever friends joined employees in the workplace for a paw-ductive morning sniffing plans followed by puppa-cinos at a local café and a pampering session at a doggy daycare centre. This workplace event celebrates the power of pet ownership.

Hickinbotham generously donated $2,000 to RSPCA SA, which will help fund veterinary services for rescue animals.

Thank you Hickinbotham, we’re so grateful for your suppawt. 🐾🙏

Meet Dion! 🐶

This courageous Kelpie came into our care earlier this year after being surrendered by his previous owner. Thankfully, Dion got a second chance at his happily ever after and is celebrating one month in his new home. 🙌

Dion has settled in nicely and is loving life, especially when he gets to run around at the park. He’s doing great in the home when his dad is at work, and he’s even made a few doggie friends. Go Dion! 🐾💙

We desperately need to free up some space at our O'Halloran Hill animal care campus. Can you lend a helping paw? 🐶🐾

Our Inspectors are working on a number of cases which will likely result in more than 100 dogs needing shelter over the next month. We're calling on our big-hearted community of animal lovers to help get the animals out of the shelter and into loving furever homes. If you’ve ever considered adopting, now is the time to do it! 💙

📍🚘 Dogs are located at our O’Halloran Hill campus (9a Majors Road, O'Halloran Hill). If transport is an issue, please don't let that stop you! We're happy to discuss options to make this process as easy as possible for you.

⏰ If you're unable to adopt during our normal business hours (10am-4pm, Monday-Friday and 10am-3pm on weekends), that's not a problem either! We can be flexible and offer options outside of these hours to suit a day and time that's convenient for you.

Happy International Cat Day! We’re celebrating with a miracle happy tail. 🐱🙌🏻

Jessica adopted George the cat four years ago, together with one of his sisters, Dusky. In 2022, Jessica moved into a new home at Davoren Park, and not long after George escaped. Despite a lot of effort, Jessica was unable to find him.

Fast forward two and half years, and on Friday 19 July we received a report about a cat lingering around a workplace with a strap hanging down its neck. The strap was the body band of the harness George was wearing when he ran off. Finding George was one thing but catching him was another, so our rescue team gave the reporter, Courtney, a cat trap and instructed her on its use.

A week later, George was caught and thanks to microchipping, he was reunited with his loving parent – just in time for Jessica’s birthday. 💙

Did you know that microchipping your cat is a legal requirement in South Australia? This is the most surefire way of ensuring cats are returned to their owners if they go missing.

Hi there, I’m Trevor (AID 190153). 🐶 👋🏻

I’m the cutest boy with the biggest heart. I would love to find a caring family who are committed to training me, socialising me and making me feel like a valued member of the family. 💙💚

As I’m only young, I would love to participate in some puppy training classes where I can learn new skills and meet new furiends, can you please take me?

If you have the time, patience, and ability to provide me with everything I need to flourish in life, then you might just be my pawfect match. 🙏🏻

📣 WE NEED YOUR HELP! 🐾

We’re looking for the owner of a dog taken into our care at our O’Halloran Hill animal care centre on Sunday after being found injured at Crafers West.

The male Rhodesian Ridgeback cross is believed to be about two-years-old, is not desexed or microchipped and has an injured front paw that is causing lameness. However, our vet team is confident that the dog will make a full recovery.

The dog had been roaming loose in Crafers West for about ten days. Several residents reported seeing him, but he eluded capture until last Sunday when one of our animal ambulance volunteers assisted by a local resident managed to catch him in bushland beside Hillcrest Ave.

The dog has a gentle and friendly temperament and was so hungry he climbed into our rescue van on his own, lured by roast chicken.

Anyone who believes they are the owner of this dog, or who has any information that might assist us to locate his owner, is asked to call 1300 4 777 22.

Do you remember Minnow? This beautiful girl was regularly featured on our social pages as we were desperate to find her a loving home. After over a year in our care, including some time in foster, Minnow has now been adopted and is living the happy life she always deserved. Her days are now spent sleeping, enjoying new adventures, and curling up on the couch for some R&R. 🐶💙

Hi there, my name’s Tallulah (AID 188779), but my furiends call me Lu. 👋🏻

My shelter pawrents are so proud of how far I’ve come since I arrived as a timid little girl. I’ve gained so much confidence and I’m ready to share my su-paw-star personality with the world. 🐶🙌🏻

I love going on long walks, so I would make the best adventure buddy. I’m also a cheeky gal and love playing with toys (shredding boxes is my favourite hobby) and eating yummy treats.

I know I may be a little biased, but I consider myself to have the three Bs – beauty, brains and brilliance. I would love to find a kind, caring and supportive family (adults and older children only please) to make memories with, and if you give me a chance, I’ll leave a paw print on your heart. 💙

I have more than enough paw-sonality to go around, so I would prefer to not share my furever home with another dog resident. I do hope we can be friends!

Our amazing rescue team spent six weeks trying to save a Purple Swamphen with fishing twine entangled around her leg at Byards Road Wetlands. Purple Swamphens are typically elusive creatures, and you need to be very persistent to catch them.

After numerous attempts trialling different techniques, our dream team, together with our friends at the Wildlife Welfare Org SA Inc (WWO), were able to successfully catch the bird using a net launcher. She was treated at WWO's vet care facility before being released back into her natural habitat. Not only would have this entanglement been painful, but if it remained in place long-term, the poor bird may have lost her foot.

Well done team, talk about im-peck-able effort! 🙌

Look at that Staffy smile! 🐶💙

After losing their beloved Blue Heeler, Jamie-Lee and her family couldn’t bring themselves to welcome another dog into their heart and home for many years, but they always felt like something was missing. So, in 2022 they decided to adopt Domino. It was love at first sight!

When Domino arrived at his furever home on a farm, he seemed so grateful and quickly adjusted to living with horses, cats and kids. In fact, he loves to visit the horses every day! 🐴💚

His family describe him as the most loyal and loving companion. Domino is the happiest boy in the world, and he can’t wipe the Staffy smile off his gorgeous face.

CASE FINALISED! This poor kitten was one of three seized by RSPCA SA Inspectors due to a serious case of animal ill-treatment. 💔

The 54-year-old owner was charged yesterday with two counts of animal ill-treatment for failing to take reasonable steps to mitigate harm suffered by a four-month-old kitten with an eye tumour, resulting in the animal’s eye globe rupturing.

The man was also charged with failure to mitigate harm from disease for another two kittens (including the one pictured) by not taking them to receive veterinary treatment. The animals were suffering from chronic eye infections and cat flu.

Magistrate Rodney Oates sentenced the defendant to a six-week prison term, suspended on a 15-month bond. The defendant is prohibited from owning any animals other than a 12-year-old cat.

All kittens have received veterinary treatment and remain in protective custody with RSPCA SA.

RSPCA SA is the state’s only animal welfare charity with inspectors empowered to prosecute animal cruelty under SA’s Animal Welfare Act.

Hi there, my name's Maximus (AID 190078)! 👋🐶

A sweet boy with a big heart, I have so much love to give! I'm a people person and thrive when I'm spending time with my favourite humans.

I've enjoyed living with children in the past, so I would be happy to have some furless two-legged friends, but a home free from dog residents would be ideal for me. 🐾

When I'm not busy being the ultimate BFF, I enjoy learning new skills (did I mention I'm a smart cookie?) and eating yummy snacks. 💙

I hope we can be furiends! Not yet ready to adopt? That’s okay! I'm also available for foster.

Like the Jedi Master, don’t judge this little kitten by his size. For he has the heart of a warrior.

Yoda was found huddling in a backyard shed, with a wound on his hind leg that exposed bone.

🚨 Will you help fund his emergency surgery and medical care? ➡️ bit.ly/yodas-fund 🚨

Only 11 weeks old, this dear little tabby has been braver than any kitten should have to be. Suffered, he has. But with your kindness - thrive, he will. ❤️

Due to the severity of the injury, our vets have determined that removing Yoda’s hind leg is the kindest option. Given the resilience he’s shown so far, we’re confident that he’ll bounce back with full Force.

Your compassionate gift will help to cover the costs of Yoda’s amputation surgery, medication and post-operative care, until he’s ready to start a new journey in a loving home.

Will you be a candle in the darkness for this little fighter and give him A New Hope? 🙏 ➡️ bit.ly/yodas-fund

A win for animal welfare! 🙌

The South Australian Government has announced an end date for the use of bows and crossbows to hunt animals.

From 1 December 2024, the use of these weapons against animals will be illegal in South Australia, except when bow fishing carp in the River Murray in some circumstances. Bows and crossbows can still be used on inanimate targets at designated ranges.

We applaud the state government for its decision and thank our passionate supporters for taking action and helping us to achieve this positive outcome. 🙏

July is National Desexing Month! 🐾

Here at RSPCA SA, we encourage community members to desex their pets to help reduce the number of unwanted dogs and cats that end up in animal shelters, many of which are the result of unplanned breeding.

We recently caught up with Dr Brooke Hasler to learn more about why desexing is so important. 🐶🐱

Wild weather alert! ⛈️🚨

With temperatures forecast to drop below 10 tonight accompanied by strong winds and heavy rain, it’s so im-paw-tant to keep your furry friends safe and warm. 🐶🐱🐰

Keep pets inside if possible and ensure they have access to blankets and a cosy bed. If your pet must sleep outside, make sure they have adequate shelter and that they’re well protected from the elements. Your fur friend may also require some extra food to help their body fight the winter chill.

Stay safe everyone! 💙💚

Our story

Welcome to RSPCA South Australia’s official page. Please do NOT report acts of cruelty here. For any animal welfare concerns, please contact us on 1300 4 777 22 or via our website: www.rspcasa.org.au/report-cruelty. We appreciate your help in keeping our page a friendly place for all. RSPCA South Australia is our state’s oldest and largest animal welfare charity. Since our establishment in Adelaide in 1875, we have remained the leading voice for all creatures great and small across South Australia.

We work non-stop to defend the dignity of animals, while fighting to prevent animal cruelty. We are animal protectors, carers and guardians. We bring solace to the abandoned, surrendered and injured. We offer shelter, education, medical attention and love. We help animals in need find loving forever homes. And we advocate for the humane treatment of all living creatures.

Crucially, we are also the only charity empowered by State Parliament to prosecute animal cruelty and neglect. Our small team of inspectors respond to more than 4,000 reports of animal cruelty every year, investigating complaints against all kinds of animals in all kinds of situations. To report animal cruelty, please call our 24-hour hotline on 1300 4 777 22.

Our important animal welfare work is almost entirely funded by community donations. We rely almost entirely on the goodwill of our loyal supporters to continue being there for animals when they need us most.
