CAT (LOST): NORTH AINSLIE

URGENT PLEASE READ: grey cat (russian blue) missing in North Ainslie.

Hi everyone, my lovely Russian blue cat seems to have escaped the house. She is an inside cat but it looks like she has slipped out. She is short haired, grey with yellow eyes. She's very friendly and goes by the name Miss Luna.

Me and my housemates are very worried about her especially since she doesn't know the area. Please contact me asap if you think you've seen her.

Last seen in Officer Crescent near Davenport street.

Meet Mr. Jabari – Beaks & Whiskers Rescue #1024

Mr. Jabari joined Beaks & Whiskers last month from Sylvania, NSW.

I chose the name Jabari due to it being a strong and masculine name. Jabari is Swahili for brave and Arabic for ruler and given the strength and bravery this handsome guy has shown with everything he has faced; I found it fitting.

A family was visiting family in Sylvania and found Mr. Jabari who had been dumped in a Hungry Jack’s carpark.

They took him to a local vet and checked for a micro-chip (of course he didn’t have one) and posted him on social media and no one came forward for him. They knew they couldn’t leave him there, but they weren’t in a position to keep him either. While the family who found Mr. Jabari was talking to a mutual friend, they mentioned were going to reach out to the local pound and The RSPCA and see if they would take him. Thankfully, our mutual friend mentioned us and then reached out themselves to see if we could help. The family changed their mind at the last minute and considered keeping him, but he was looking 100% healthy and thankfully for all involved our friends convinced them to change their mind and surrender him to us. Little did we know how unwell Mr. Jabari was until we took him in.

When Mr. Jabari first arrived, he was skin and bones, anemic and very lethargic. The family who found him said he had been like that since they found him, he had also shown signs of not being able to walk properly – they didn’t have him seen to by a vet, so didn’t know anymore.

Of course, we had him seen to by our vet straight away. He was confirmed to be emaciated, anemic, had sore kidneys and was on deaths door” to the point if the family had put it off handing him over to us any longer, he would have died within 24-48 hours.

The thought was he had eaten a poisoned rodent and that was making him anemic, causing his lethargy and problems with his kidneys. So, we started treating that first, along with pumping food into him to start getting some weight back on him.

I’m pleased to say that in the last three weeks that we have had him, he has overcome the alleged poisoned rodent poisoning, his kidneys are back to full and normal function, and he has doubled his weight, although he still has more weight to gain.

What can society learn from this situation –
1. Stop dumping your pets. Animals are domesticated and rely on you for survival, not only will they more than likely not survive on the streets, the streets are just not safe.
2. If you think dumping your pets on the streets because they are sick makes it ok, I can assure you it does not and you are a hole other kind of villain. I truly am saddening and concerned about the number of sick animals who are not only being dumped on the streets but being dumped on rescues without being told their medical status.

SHARED FROM THE RSPCA ACT Post

With temperatures forecast to reach as high as 34 degrees this weekend, please don't forget to keep your pets safe.

RSPCA ACT has some handy tips on how to beat the heat this weekend and through summer:

🌬️ Provide your pets with a cool, shaded area with proper ventilation at all times.
🍧 Give frozen treats for your pets and frozen water bottles for your bunnies and ferrets to cool their bodies.
⛲ Mud puddles, splash pools, water misters or sprinklers are all good ideas for dogs and chickens.
😎 Avoid walks in the heat of the day - rather plan to go in the morning or evenings when it is cooler.
🧴 Slip, slop slap - get some pet friendly sunscreen for dogs with light skin and noses.
🥤 Consider putting out cool water in shady areas for wildlife, remember to put a rock or twigs in the water so the smaller creatures can drink safely without falling into the water.
🌴 Small animals like rabbits, guinea pigs, fetters, birds, rats and mice are highly susceptible to heat stress (which can be fatal). Make sure these animals are kept in cool and shady spots and provide cool treats for them to enjoy.

CAT/s (SIGHTING): FRANKLIN

I've managed to take a photo of a cat in Franklin that I've been seeing for months! It may be a stray... And I'm pretty sure there are 2 of them, but today I only saw the one... Still thought to message you in case it's someone's beloved pet!

It/They always hang around the corner of Daniels St and Charlotte Barton St.

It's fur was ruffled with parts of it sticking up, so it's either really not groomed well or I was worried it may have been injured... Quite timid. Won't let me come close.
