The first Ecole de Legerete Teachers Clinic since 2019 will be held in Kilmore, Victoria Kilmore Equestrian Centre from 17 - 20th May 2024. Our new Master Teacher Veronika Buhn will be leading our education.

Watch out for spectator booking details later this week. We will also be searching for pedagogy students.

Giddy Up!

With “all the fuss” going on in Denmark 🇩🇰 it’s good to remember that there is an alternative to those harsh ways! Education and development of riders at the grass roots is the key to change.

The Ecole de Legerete is founded on a deep knowledge of the horse, including anatomy, physiology, ethology etc. It is not a finished point and can take in new information as it is presented. It is not just a set of rules. However it also respects and conserves the knowledge of the past.

🌟 The Ecole de Legerete is a philosophy which takes account of the teaching's of historical masters including Xenephon, Tieste, La Brun, La Gueriniere, Hunersdorf, Baron de Sinde, Baucher, Rabe, Beudant, Kerbreche, Nuno Oliveira.

🌟 The word Legerete has a special meaning in the equestrian community in France, while we can directly translate Legerete to Lightness, actually Legerete has a meaning related to the quality of availability in the horse and an efficiency in communication between horse and rider.

🌟The Ecole de Legerete refuses any use of power or force (no fixed reins or gadgets).

🌟The Ecole de Legerete is for all horses and all riders. Not only the naturally talented ones (thank goodness for that!).

In 2024 we will be resuming in person teacher training clinics in Australia with a new Master teacher. Stay tuned for details.

I started training with Jason 3 months ago as I was not happy with how my horses were going.
⁃ not balanced and what is balance? Jason will show you it is so powerful
⁃ Pole lower
⁃ Behind vertical
⁃ Not forward
⁃ Not straight
⁃ Unable to rotate their pelvis for collection
⁃ Not supple through the pole
Jason trains in Phillip Karl’s way of Legerete and some other cool tips …ask him about the “trust me trip”.

I was unable to ride my FEI Schoolmaster in the snaffle , he was stiff, behind the vertical, at times on the forehand especially in canter. Now I only ride him in the snaffle, he has mouth mobility and he is more supple but given he is 19 we have some way to go … ask me in 12 months about Andross.

I combine Jason’s lessons with watching Phillip Karl’s videos and I feel now I have answers to a lot of questions I had in the past … with a long way to go .. but I love this way of training and riding.

Here is my main man Andross in a snaffle with ice cream around his mouth … this way of riding and training will see Andross sound into his 20’s and that makes me happy and him happy.

Incredible!

Esther Martha Stace was an Australian equestrian. She first competed in an event in 1891 at the age of 20, where she tied for first place. She continued to compete until within a few years of her death in 1918. She always rode sidesaddle, and wore a scarlet plush outfit in competitions. In 1915 she set a sidesaddle high jump record of 6 feet 6 inches which would stand for 98 years, until 2013.

Hurry Up and get on and Do Nothing!

More people get killed and injured getting on and off horses because we don’t practice just sitting and parking up. This helps the horse and rider to relax but most importantly teaches your horse to wait for us.

Unless it’s an emergency, the last thing you want to do, is be in a hurry to get on or off of a moving anxious horse.
