🐾 Important Reminder for All Dog Handlers! 🐾 Attention all dog handlers! We recently experienced some concerning incidents during our Assistance K9 team's end-of-year lunch at a community club. We want to take this opportunity to remind everyone about the importance of safety around assistance dogs and responsible dog handling in general. During our outing, an unaccompanied Labrador wearing a harness and organization cape approached our young Labrador candidate in training, Jimmy. Although the visiting dog guide meant no harm and only wanted to socialize and play with Jimmy, it's crucial for handlers to keep their dogs under control at all times. Fortunately, a staff member intervened and returned the dog guide to its handler, who seemed unaware that their dog had left the table. The responsibility lies with the handlers to ensure they have proper control over their dogs, including holding the leash and being aware of their whereabouts. To mitigate further incidents, we requested to be seated in a separate section away from the dog guides. Despite this precaution, another incident occurred when a dog guide handler approached the queue for ordering meals. Their dog pulled towards our young dog, Frank, who was peacefully lying under the table. We had to alert the handler to the situation and ask them to control their dog, which they eventually ignored. These incidents could have escalated into potential conflicts, causing harm to the guests, staff, handlers, or the dogs themselves. It is the responsibility of ALL dog handlers, whether you work with dog guides, assistance dogs, or even pet dogs, to take ownership of your dogs' behavior. Remember these crucial points to ensure everyone's safety: 🐾 Keep hold of the leash and maintain control over your dog at all times. 🐾 Do not allow your dog to approach other dogs uninvited, regardless of their working status or pet dog status. 🐾 Maintain a safe distance from other dogs to prevent potentially avoida

This clever Malinois is not only dedicated to his own training but also goes above and beyond, lending a helping paw (or should I say, a helping paw-some?) to shape the future Assistance K9s. I watched in awe as Sarge guided the puppies through various exercises, showing them the ropes of obedience and manners.
