Assistance K9 Bushfire Recovery Community Support Dogs – Program Launch
It’s been quiet here… and for good reason. ❤️🐾
During the Longwood fires on that catastrophic weather day, we had to evacuate all our Labradors from home in a rush. We loaded the crew, got out fast, and thankfully every one came through safe. Our place wasn’t touched by flames—we were very fortunate.
But so many others weren’t. Families lost homes, farms, livestock, everything. The fear and grief are still raw for so many.
Yet amid the heartbreak, we saw something powerful: people coming together with love and kindness. Neighbours helping neighbours, strangers opening doors, communities lifting each other up. That spirit is what carries us forward.
That’s why we’re launching the Assistance K9 Bushfire Recovery Community Support Dogs program now.
Our calm, trained Labradors and handlers have been working hard to be prepared to go where they are needed — bringing comfort, connection, and support to bushfire-affected communities.
Quiet moments to sit with a friendly Labrador, share a gentle pat, feel a little less alone, and know someone (and some paws) cares—no words needed, no expectations, just presence and warmth.
We’ll go where the community needs us:
- Relief and recovery hubs
- Community events and gatherings
- Organisations supporting the recovery efforts
- Local groups
- Emergency Services
If you’re in a bushfire-affected area and think this could help your community, recovery group, or event — please reach out. The program is run by volunteers and our services are free. We’d love to bring the dogs to you.
To everyone still recovering: you’re not alone. We see you. We’re here. And the dogs are ready to help bring some calm and connection when it’s needed most. ❤️🐶
