Does a wagging tail = a happy dog?
MYTHBUSTING MONDAY | Wagging tail = happy dog? ❌
Not always!🤔 In fact, dogs wag their tails when they’re feeling all sorts of different emotions. Tail movement can tell us that a dog is alert or interested, but we need to look at the position of the tail, speed of movement and other body parts to help us understand what they might be feeling.

Can you re-call your pooch? 😅
Recall Training 🐕🦺 👀
Why is it so important!? Simply, it's all about safety for your furry friend!
Having the ability to call your dog can prevent a number of dangerous and life-threatening situations like running into traffic, running away, roaming off-trail, approaching an aggressive dog and much much more! 👏
We have plenty of tips and tricks up our sleeve to help re-call train your pup today! www.schoolfordogs.com.au/classes
Snuffle Buckets 👏🐶
🐶 👃 Snuffling for treats and food is a great way to get your pup's nose and brain stimulated and active! It's also a great way to encourage your dog's scavenging and sniffing abilities!
Check out this cool way you can get your dog to snuffle with balls, toys, a bucket and treats! ⚾️
Impulse Control
Two puppies walk into a room what do you expect? Jumping and pulling? Not for Bernie and Tarka 🐶🐶
The pair have perfect focus and proximity control despite being very excited. They've been working hard on their training and it shows! Trainer Lachlan was very proud of this big step forward for the talented pups 🤗
Look out Tony Hawk, you've got competition 🛹
Treats and Training
🦴 “I don’t want to bribe my dog to do what I want them to” 🐕
Using incentives like food doesn’t have to be the end goal, but it can certainly help them associate your commands with positive reinforcement, making it a useful first step. RSPCA and School for Dogs support reward-based training methods as it’s the most humane and effective way to train dogs.
🐶 “What if my dog only performs when they’re shown the incentive?” 👀
It’s recommended to slowly fade out the lure, but to keep the reward when they’re learning. This will boost positive reinforcement with performing the action and will train your dog to follow the command when there’s no food visible.
But have no fear! If you’re still having trouble, we can work with you in one of our classes to help! To check out a list of our classes, visit 🌏 www.schoolfordogs.com.au/classes
