Forest Red-tailed Black Cockatoos bring the South-west forests alive. Have a look at how beautifully striking those tail feathers are! 👀🪶
These can be seen roosting in Eucalyptus - Jarrah, Marri and Karri trees, but certainly they will be heard first.
This South-west population is Calyptorhynchus banksii naso, 'naso' refers to their large bills.
Here is a beautiful family of FRTBC
These forest vocalists are becoming less common due to habitat destruction, fires, and European honeybees. Land clearing for farm and housing development are driving these now threatened birds into tiny pockets of bushland. While European honeybees are kicking these birds out of tree hollows, they use for nesting.
These birds are a regular occurrence in a local reserve, unfortunately the reserve is only a few square kilometres and is surrounded by vast agricultural land.
