A Better Life Animal Sanctuary is a registered charity which was started in 2018 on a property in Banjup as a way to help homeless animals, many of which were saved from abuse or neglect. From humble beginnings when they adopted dogs and rabbits, to their first farm animal and native animals. Their aim is to provide care and rehabilitation for animals without owners especially those who are sick o

r injured. Later on came Phoebe, a two-day old (1-kilogram) piglet who was left in a cardboard box at a zoo entry. Next was Tommy the calf who was rescued from a salesyard, and The Addams family flock of sheep who needed a new home. A Better Life Animal Sanctuary is now set on a 200-acre property near York in the wheatbelt and while they don’t have the funds to adopt every animal, they also help with finding new homes through their adoption program. They have been able to find more good homes for animals through this program than they would have alone, as the numbers of animals that need new homes is sadly immense. While primarily they provide a home for farm animals, they have also adopted native animals, dogs and rabbits, as well as sheep, rams, cows, pigs, alpacas, goats, chickens, roosters, and more. A Better Life Animal Sanctuary is committed to giving farm animals a new, better life. Many of the animals who they have found a forever home were saved from abuse or neglect, while others were simply unwanted or abandoned. As a registered charity all their funds go back into the direct care and rehabilitating orphaned or sick and injured animals. They hope to educate and raise awareness of living a conscious, ethical life that excludes the exploitation of animals. It is our mission to care for animals, and provide them with a life worth living, but feed costs, vet bills, bedding and other costs are expensive so please donate. "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal."😥😥😥Today our beautiful boy found Skye found his wings after a long battle of over 6 weeks.

Skye our brave and resilient pig, passed away this morning. He was a fighter, having come back from the brink of death more than once and while his body eventually failed his spirit was truly something special. Although his time here was far too short, Skye knew he was loved deeply and found comfort near his sanctuary family in his final moments after an attempted reintroduction to his herd over the last few weeks. 🥹🥹🥹

Despite the challenges from some of the other pigs, Skye would often emerge from the tree line to see his siblings beside the fence: kylo ren, joey, kingsley and georgie seeking the warmth his birth siblings: . He taught us about resilience and the power of love, even in the face of hardship. Skye’s light will forever be a part of us, and his memory will inspire us to continue our mission of kindness and care for all beings. Rest in peace, Skye. You were loved beyond measure, and you will be always missed and cherished. From the scared little piglet to the tough boy who you grew up to be, you will be forever be in our hearts until too our last breath is taken. 😥😥🥹🥹

🐾 Urgent Call for Help: A Better Life Animal Sanctuary 🐾

We’re heartbroken to announce that due to a lack of daily help, we need to find new homes for some of our beloved residents. Our priority is ensuring the highest quality of care and welfare for all animals, so we’re reaching out to our community for support.

We are located in York, western australia 2 hours of Perth. Currently, the are

🐰 4 rabbits who are friendly
🐱 9 cats, many friendly with humans
🐔 3 chickens
🐓 23 roosters, most of whom are friendly
🦆 1 female duck & 1 Muscovy male duck
🐐 3 goats, inc 2 who have been with sheep
🐷 11 pigs most who are friendly
🐑 38 sheep inc 2 rams and 2 youngsters under 1.5 years
🐂 3 cows
🦙 3 alpacas inc Bella & Izzy

These wonderful animals are not yet sponsored or agisted, and we need your help to find them safe, loving homes. We would prefer most animals to be adopted in pairs. If you or someone you know can provide a forever home, please reach out or message us for more information.

Thankyou so much to everyone who donated for Skye's treatment. We have some amazing news, he is back home. 😁😁😁

Unfortunately he's still very unwell requiring medication 4 times per day and us not always happy to eat. Skye needed blood from other pigs to pull through from Pablo (who needs a home if anyone knows of one) and his brother Kylo Ren.

So Skye's done well overnight and they are no longer going to surgery but he needs more blood and from an adult pig with matching blood type this time. They are now thinking back to rat poison or snake bite

So we are in the situation as yesterday but Brad is still at the sanctuary but he needs help getting the boys back in the horse trailer. Can anyone help?

Update on Skye the sick pig at 450pm. Skye got a fast transfusion thank to Mia's pig Pablo but we still need to raise funds for the surgery / treatment

Upon arriving at the pig specialist vets early this morning, we have cycled through a series of differential diagnoses- however as of now the vet says it is likely a twisted bowel, leading to blood loss.

He is going to need emergency surgery ASAP - Which has been quoted at $2-6k.

Skye has been with us since he was just a few days old. We are sure his 4 siblings Joey, Kylo Ren, Georgie & Kingsley and 3 adopted siblings Phoebe, Ricky, and Tusker are missing him! They are a close bunch, and love sunbathing and digging lots of holes in the pastures together😂🐽

Back in 2020 when he and his brothers were taken to get their desexing operations, Phoebe pig actually became very protective and started running up and down the fence-line and grunting in distress - even began nipping at our legs! We had thought up until then that she didn’t like them, but turns out she had already decided very firmly that these were her new baby brothers (no matter how much they annoyed her😂)!🐽 Don’t worry Phoebe- your brother will receive only the best care and we will not stop fighting for him.💚

S.O.S.!!! We are reaching out to our community in crisis mode right now as A Better Life Animal Sanctuary desperately needs your help - and we need it ASAP.

We have been hit with multiple crises over the last 2 weeks, including a broken tractor, broken car, and multiple medical emergencies including the tragic and unexpected loss of some of our beloved long term residents.

Currently, we now have a very sick pig who needs round-the-clock care (pig specialist vet away for weekend), and we only have maximum two people rotating care and sanctuary upkeep - often only one at any given time.

Usually, a sick animal would be manageable- however, due to the usual primary carer for the animals being out of the country for a family emergency, and the other having to work to keep the sanctuary afloat, these events have created the perfect storm.

This cluster of unfortunate circumstances means we are starting to slip behind on essential upkeep, which will only make things worse, and likely lead to more crises.

We need help with multiple things- but priorities are making sure animals’ living quarters are clean and maintained, and fixing the piglets fence where Dr Kevin the piglet is currently escaping from multiple times a day - which, as you can imagine - is just the cherry on top of this very stressful situation.🥲

It's been a wet month at the sanctuary and the sheep aren't overly impressed at the creek crossing on their way home for dinner 😞😞😞

Poor Trish the lamb can't catch a break. We've been trying to introduce her to some of the other smaller sheep but it hasn't worked out too well. Either she's being pushed around or chased by the other sheep inc pushy Albert and chasey Sarah

When my sis met Archer, I was like, 'Girl, you gotta feel his vibes!' And let me tell you, she was feelin' them alright! He's like a cuddly bear, but instead of fur, he's got a heart of gold!
