A Better Life Animal Sanctuary is a registered charity which was started in 2018 on a property in Banjup as a way to help homeless animals, many of which were saved from abuse or neglect. From humble beginnings when they adopted dogs and rabbits, to their first farm animal and native animals. Their aim is to provide care and rehabilitation for animals without owners especially those who are sick o

r injured. Later on came Phoebe, a two-day old (1-kilogram) piglet who was left in a cardboard box at a zoo entry. Next was Tommy the calf who was rescued from a salesyard, and The Addams family flock of sheep who needed a new home. A Better Life Animal Sanctuary is now set on a 200-acre property near York in the wheatbelt and while they don’t have the funds to adopt every animal, they also help with finding new homes through their adoption program. They have been able to find more good homes for animals through this program than they would have alone, as the numbers of animals that need new homes is sadly immense. While primarily they provide a home for farm animals, they have also adopted native animals, dogs and rabbits, as well as sheep, rams, cows, pigs, alpacas, goats, chickens, roosters, and more. A Better Life Animal Sanctuary is committed to giving farm animals a new, better life. Many of the animals who they have found a forever home were saved from abuse or neglect, while others were simply unwanted or abandoned. As a registered charity all their funds go back into the direct care and rehabilitating orphaned or sick and injured animals. They hope to educate and raise awareness of living a conscious, ethical life that excludes the exploitation of animals. It is our mission to care for animals, and provide them with a life worth living, but feed costs, vet bills, bedding and other costs are expensive so please donate. Welcome Fiona! 🐑💛

Everyone, meet Fiona Lamb (formerly known as Minty), the newest woolly face to join our sanctuary family! Fiona comes to us at just the right time, as we're hoping she can help her buddy Cooper adjust to life without his two devoted mums — our incredible volunteers, Rachel and Vannessa — as they set off to continue their adventures around Australia. 🌏💕

Fiona and Cooper grew up together, so we’re optimistic they’ll make the transition to “real sheep life” a little easier on each other. Unlike their quirky paddock-mates Trish and Sarah, who were both raised as solo orphans and are now convinced they’re more cat or dog than sheep 🐱🐶😂, these two might just learn to embrace their inner flock.

🌈💔 Rest in Peace, Piggie Smalls 💔🌈

Today, we say goodbye to one of the biggest hearts and even bigger personalities we've ever had the privilege of knowing.

Piggie Smalls came to us morbidly obese, her health hanging by a thread — but this incredible girl rose to the challenge, shedding the weight and showing unbelievable determination. Even with the extra folds of skin left behind, she wore them like a badge of honor. She fought hard for her life and lived every single day with sass, s***k, and style.

More than just a survivor, Piggie Smalls was a motherly soul — nurturing Jordy, Renee, and our visually impaired piglets with gentle love and patience. She was also a fiercely loyal friend to Bubbles, Squeek, and Kevin, always keeping the paddock in check with her strong will and stronger voice.

You could hear her attitude before you saw her, and once you met her, you’d never forget her. Piggie Smalls, you were one of a kind — bold, loving, and unapologetically you. Our hearts are heavier today, but your spirit will forever echo through the sanctuary.
