Finding the right words to comfort your family at a difficult time is not easy. We each experience grief in our own way and our own time. Children may experience bursts of sadness and can mourn, then play, then mourn but they will let you know when they're ready to talk or cry or just need a hug.

They will look to you for guidance, so it's important to model your own grieving in a way that makes them feel safe and comfortable to express their own feelings. Allowing them to see you cry can help them understand their own feelings a little better. Grieving can take time, it can't be rushed but it can be done together xo

National 'Rabbit Awareness Week' is a time to spread the love for these wonderful companions.

🐇 Rabbits are not only cute but also incredibly social creatures. 💞 They thrive in the company of their fellow bunnies and form strong bonds with their family members. These cuddly companions enjoy playing, grooming each other, and even cuddling up together for a cosy nap!

Rabbits can be affectionate and gentle pets for young (supervised) children, and they are often a wonderful way to foster skills in responsibility and thoughtfulness.

A deep breathing exercise for those carrying grief:

Get Comfortable: Sit or lie down with your palms facing up.

Inhale: Slowly breathe in through your nose, letting your belly rise.

Exhale: Breathe out slowly through your mouth.

20 Breaths: Continue this for 20 breaths without pausing.

Hold Breath: After 20 breaths, exhale and hold your breath for 20 seconds.

Repeat: Complete four rounds of 20 breaths followed by a 20-second breath-hold.

Move: Gently move your body to release tension you are holding onto — roll your shoulders and wrists, stretch your neck, point your toes.

Ask Yourself: Where am I holding stress and grief? What emotions am I holding back? What can I release today?

When your best friend passes, you suddenly need to make some difficult decisions very quickly. We're here to explain your choices in simple terms, without any confusing jargon.

Private Cremation
Commemorates your pet's life by way of cremation in their own private chamber. Many providers will simply place bricks between pets in one chamber; however, we will never take this risk so that we can ensure pets make it home to their own families. Keepsakes such as paw prints, memorial urns, and final goodbye viewings are all available for your loved one.

Communal Cremation:
Your pet is cremated in a communal chamber with other pets, and their combined ashes are respectfully returned to the earth on our private property. Memorial products and keepsakes are not available with communal cremation.

It is important to know that if another method is selected at another provider, and your pet is not returned to you, this may involve their beloved remains going to a council landfill or waste management facility. Rest assured, Patch & Purr only offers dignified and respectful options for pets: Private Cremation or Communal Cremation.

Practice Self-Compassion:

Engage in activities that bring you comfort and solace, such as taking walks in nature, practicing mindfulness or meditation, or engaging in hobbies that bring you joy.

Allow Yourself to Grieve:

Acknowledge and honour your emotions. Give yourself permission to grieve and experience the range of emotions that come with pet loss. It's normal to feel sadness, anger, guilt, and even moments of happiness when reminiscing about your pet. Allow yourself the time and space to process these emotions without judgement.

Seek Support:

Connect with others who understand and empathise with your loss. Reach out to friends, family members, or support groups specifically for pet loss. Sharing your feelings and memories can provide comfort and validation. Online forums and social media groups can also be valuable resources for finding a supportive community.

Prioritise Self-Care Activities:

Engage in activities that promote your well-being and help you cope with grief. Take care of your physical health by maintaining a balanced diet, getting regular exercise, and ensuring you have adequate rest. Engage in activities that nurture your emotional well-being, such as journaling, listening to soothing music, or engaging in creative pursuits.

Create a Ritual of Remembrance:

Establish a ritual or practice that allows you to remember and honour your pet regularly. This can be lighting a candle, saying a prayer or affirmation, or visiting a special place that holds significance for you and your pet. Engaging in these rituals can provide a sense of connection and allow you to maintain a bond with your beloved pet.

Consider Professional Help:

If your grief feels overwhelming or persists for an extended period, consider seeking support from a mental health professional. They can provide guidance and tools to help you navigate the grieving process and address any underlying emotional challenges that may arise.
