NSC=Non Structural Carbohydrates, which are the sugar and starch content in feed. High levels of NSC are mainly found in grains as well as sweet feeds (i.e feeds with molasses). While NSC does provide energy to horses, it can be like feeding candy to kids (it can make them a bit excitable!). High levels of NSC can cause metabolic chaos, laminitis, poor temperament, high blood acidity and digestive issues (hind gut acidosis).
Generally the accepted value for a low NSC feed is around 12-15%
The NSC of CoolStance Copra is 11% making it a suitable slow energy burning feed for all horses and ponies.

From Sour to Tranquil Beauty

In 2010, Tacita acquired our “Cover Girl,” affectionately known as “Moo,” an ex-racehorse with issues! For nine months, she tried a variety of feeds and additives – anything and everything you could possibly feed to improve her condition. On 7kgs a day, Moo was still anorexic, sour, and noticeably unhappy. She was basically a lunatic who was extremely reactive to the slightest touch. During her time studying and working in Australia, Tacita was introduced to CoolStance made from copra meal. Racehorses who had obvious behavioural issues, unable to be ridden, let alone raced, were put on this diet of fat and fiber and calmed right down to allow backing or re-backing and training. Grain was then reintroduced so they could race. With the great results she witnessed in Australia in mind, Tacita approached Stance Equine about shipping the product to South Africa, originally for her personal use with the horses on her farm “From Hoses Mouth.” The minimum amount per shipment was 1000 bags and that was the beginning of making this incredible product available for the horses of South Africa. CoolStance was literally a lifesaver for Moo as it has been for numerous other horses since its arrival in this country. We are still a small, family farm-run business, keeping the overhead at a minimum to make the product affordable here and would love to hear your story about the difference CoolStance has made with your horses.
