Puppy Tales Rescue is a non-profit group dedicated to saving the lives of dogs and puppies all over Victoria and in some circumstances even South Australia and New South Wales. Puppy Tales Rescue started from a call from a friend of a friend asking for help. Their dog had a litter of pups and when they were 7 weeks old she had a spot inspection from her landlord. She was told that unless she got r

id of them that day, she would be evicted as it was her last warning. After gathering the family we travelled to Bendigo and bought the 2 little boys home with us. We had them Vet checked, wormed, vaccinated & microchipped and desexed and a week later they were adopted into their new homes. Since that first trip we have also been to Mount Gambier in S.A to rescue some beautiful Beagle X pups and to Mildura for a litter of 7 Maltese X Foxies. Our aim is to not only help the lives of dogs on Death Row but also to stop the dumping of unwanted pups that eventually end up on the street or on Death Row them selves.

Introducing Brandy ♡
*Please read the FULL post.

Brandy is only 10 months old but has endured cruelty at its worst! She has lived her short little life tied to a pole outside whilst having an untreated broken leg, was starved nearly to death, then thankfully dumped at our vet. Thats when the amazing Kerrie our Director rescued her. Brandy has scars & wounds all over her body from her mistreatment & yet she is full of so much LOVE, I mean SO MUCH LOVE. She is obsessed with kids ♡, amazing with both dogs & cats. She is just a gentle soul. She has been healing with her foster family & is doing amazingly. Keep an eye out for this little girls adoption post (this is not it). Before getting your hopes set on this girl there will be some requirements to think about.
*She would relish in a family with children & be a great snuggle buddy.
*She would be an indoor pup. Meaning she would sleep indoors, she has spent enough time living outside & deserves to be indoors apart of the family.
*She would best suit an owner that maybe works from home as she gets anxious alone for long periods of time but her foster mama is working on this with her though.
*She would need to be on special food for awhile as she has a weak gut due to her being starved & eating rubbish which resulted in a surgery to remove a corn corb.
*She LOVES getting out daily so an active family that would let her join their adventures would be perfect too.
We will let you all know when she is ready. 🥰

Public apology.

For the last few weeks we had to take our charity off social media.

Our founder, Kerrie, had come under fire with some horrible false accusations against her personally and Puppy Tales Rescue as a result of her paid work as an Animal Managment Officer.

Although the accusations themselves were far from true, unfortunately with social media, people tend to act first before asking questions.

We chose that the safest avenue to preserve our name and the work we do, was to put a pause on our socials.

Behind the scenes we were still working our butts off saving lives and Rehoming as many as we could.

We want everyone to know that we stand by the work we do. Our volunteers work hard for our rescue and there has always been a very clear line between their paid work and that of the volunteer work they do for our rescue.

Thank you again for all our support, as always you’re all amazing in helping us save the lives we have.

Would you believe we are now 10years offical!!!

You don’t last this long in rescue without being good at what you do.

Puppy Tales is Back

Much love to you all xx

URGENT HELP NEEDED – DONATIONS NEEDED – PLEASE SHARE

Tonight, we are reaching out for urgent help. Our doors are almost closed. We can’t do this any more unless we can raise some much needed funds tonight. To be honest, the last two years have been a struggle. It saddens us so much but it’s reality.

We’ve had very little opportunities to raise funds and despite this, we still were able to keep our doors open. Just. Not only did we still have dogs on the books, but the requests for help from owner surrenders, shout outs for help from Pounds and then the calls to help save those who were at immediate risk of euthanasia, all kept coming in too.

They haven’t stopped. However, tonight, it’s all on the line. We need to raise at least $20,000 to pay off our bills and keep us going for the next little while.

We have always taken pride in saving the underdog, rehabilitating those who have been neglected, nurturing the sick and frail and supporting those beautiful old souls who have been abandoned right at the last legs of their journey.

Now we desperately need your help to keep our heart beating. Your donation could be the ultimate gift in helping to save a life.

Can you chip in tonight to help us? We receive no government funding so are completely reliant on your help to get us there tonight and keep us open.

It’s crunch time and we’re asking each and every one of you to donate $5 to help us in our time of need. If you could please write done after you have donated and please please share this post far and wide.

We need you right now.

Please donate now:

There are some things that will haunt me for the rest of my life.

This is one 😢

I was contacted my Lisa Jane Cameron years ago in regards to Lily, our beautiful wheelchair bound dachshund who was listed for adoption. Lisa had told me of a beautiful place that she ran called Story Book Animal Farm in Queensland.

Initially I was annoyed with her call, how dare another rescue contact me and ask for me to send them my dog. A dog that I had worked hard to rescue and rehabilitate with the help from some amazing foster cares too.

After asking some people up in Queensland to look into her, speaking with the carer Cindy who had done a lot of work with Lily, and looking into her farm, I felt that I may have found a place they I knew she would receive everything she could ever want or need. On top of that, she would be a pin up girl to show other people that dogs who suffer spinal injuries, still have a quality of life.

So after months of back and forth, we kissed our little girl goodbye and sent her on a journey that would see her living in a disabled pet heaven.

LJ (Lisa Jane) kept in contact with me, calling with updates and photos. Letting me know when she needed treatment at the vets. I was still so happy that she was being so well cared for, everything she needed, as often as she wanted.

We had organised a trip to up visit her, her foster mumma Cindy, our friend Steph who was also such a big help with Lily, and myself. I had to pull out, I can’t remember why, but I didn’t go. I’m so upset I didn’t go. Maybe if I did, things would have been different. Maybe I would have noticed something.

Cindy and Steph were meant to go and see her at the farm. Last minute LJ changed the meeting place to the beach.

I was sent pictures and videos of Lily seeing her face light up with she realised who it was that had come to see her. There was something about those pictures that didn’t feel right to me, something was sending me alarm bells.

I wont go into any further details with you from that point.

I have to live with this for the rest of my life.
I sent my dog,
someone who I loved so much, someone who I fought so hard to save, someone who I tried to give the best quality of life too,
Someone who I made a promise too,
I sent her to hell. I did that.

Lisa Jane Cameron, I will never forgive you for what you did to my girl, or the rest of the animals who suffered in your care.

Whilst I’m glad you will never own a pet again, you should have been jailed.
Knowing what you did to those animals, doing your own amputations. You deserve so much more pain in your life. F U

My heart will always ache for what you did

To my beautiful Lily, who I will never know what truly happened to her, please know I loved you so much.

Rescue is exhausting.

We do this for the animals, to help and heal.
Not for the abuse and anger from those who think they are above what we stand for.

I’ve said it so many times, I treat my rescues like they are my own. Whether they are with me for one hour or years, they are loved unconditionally.

You’d be surprised how many people think they are entitled to a rescue for free. Those are the people who will never get one of my dogs. If you believe my dogs are worthless, than so are you.

We are a community fostercare network.

Yes we will assist you in ways to help you keep your dog where we can. We can help you find a good trainer or help find solutions for you. But we are an advocate for the dog, not your lifestyle.

No we do not advertise your dogs that you no longer want for you

No, we will not mind your dogs for six months for you because your house is being renovated

No we do not have dogs that we lend out on the weekend

No we cannot come and help you look for your lost dog

No we will not bring a choice of dogs for you to see

And yes we do charge a fee, because we cannot expect our supporters to pay for all the costs of your dog.

And besides, we know you too well. What you get for free or too cheaply you often throw away.

And yes we may ask you to jump through hoops because we have rescued this dog, worked with the dog, love the dog, and will only pass on to you if you are the right person.

This dog deserves that.

Introducing Mr Diggle the British Bulldog.

This very handsome man has been in foster care and will be ready for his new home very soon.

Diggs is not overly keen on other dogs and most definitely doesn’t like cats. He prefers a warm, quiet home with no children to annoy him.

Who could resist those chunky little cheeks.

Keep you’re eyes peeled to the page for when he is ready for a new home 🥰

In the blustering wind and downpour of rain, this tiny little man came into our care.

He has no name, age unknown and medically he has so much going on 😞

Just from my observations he appears to have
- dry eye in both eyes
- extreme skin disease (smells very ye**ty) with massive hair loss
- horrible dental disease
- overgrown nails

He’s booked in to see the vets tonight and I will keep you all posted.

He is safe now, in a loving foster home with a warm heater and comfy bed.

Please join me in making our newest little friend welcome

INCOMING ALERT

This beautiful Senior little lady will be coming into our care in the next few weeks.

Sasha is a 12yo, 5kg Pomeranian mix who is in need of a very special home. Unfortunately Sasha has cancer and will be looking for the most amazing palliative care home to spoil her rotten.

Although she is not yet in our care, she will be here soon so I thought we would give you all an early heads up.

If you feel that you'd be able to give Sasha the love she deserves, with the very best of palliative homes, we would love to hear from you.

Puppy Tales Rescue is looking for an amazing person to become part of our rescue team.

We are currently seeking a Volunteer Grant Writer to help us obtain some important funding. Although not as animal hands on as some of our other volunteer positions, this is just as important to help save lives.

Our newest baby needs your help.

This very feisty little 11wo Boston puppy came into our care yesterday.

She was born with a condition called swimmers, and although she is now able to walk and run, she appears to have some hip problems 😞

You can help our little lady by voting for Puppy Tales Rescue in the SavourLife donation project.
The more votes we get, the more funds will be donated. Hopefully enough funds will be donated via this project that we won’t need to do a shout out for help.

Please head over and vote now. It won’t cost you anything but will help our precious little lady so much xx

*please note we are currently not taking applications for adoption. She has left HQ this morning and currently in foster care 🙂

Our Story

Puppy Tales Rescue and Rehoming is community foster care based rescue group. We are a non-profit registered charity, dedicated to saving the lives of dogs and puppies all over Victoria. Founded by Kerrie and her daughter Kayla in April 2012 our rescue has rapidly grown in size and so far taken in, rehabilitated and rehomed thousands of animals Australia wide.

Dogs begin their time with us at Kerrie's home in Merrimu Victoria where we get to know more about our furry friends. They are then vet checked, vaccinated, wormed and treated for any conditions they may have before being put into suitable foster care families while they await adoption. This system allows us to understand individual dog’s personalities, their likes, dislikes and behaviors.

We are not a first to see, first to adopt rescue rather one that matches each dog to the most suitable family possible, ensuring they are never again an unwanted pet.

We do not specialize in particular breeds, so the types and ages of dogs we save vary greatly. PTRR prides itself in rescuing the hard cases that are normally overlooked due to their medical ailments. A majority of the dogs that come into our care are suffering from medical conditions and require major surgeries, rehabilitation and recuperation before they are rehomed, Just like Charli pictured here. She was sent into our care from a major shelter due to a huge, rapid growing, fist sized tumour growing on the roof of her mouth, distorting her jaw and face.
