‘Box’ was out hunting with his owner and got into a little altercation with a pig! Unfortunately, Box did not come out on top and was rushed into the clinic with torn artery on his right forelimb 🚑
Dr Tamara performed an emergency procedure to ligate the artery and stop the bleeding. Box was still in critical condition, and due to the large loss of blood, he was provided with a blood transfusion 🩸The team stabilised Box over the next few days, and it wasn’t until this point Dr Claire was able to clean and suture the wound completely closed.
Box is now home, and is doing very well! We hope he is back out soon doing what he loves 🐾
What was stuck in this dog’s belly?! 😵
Boof was brought into the clinic as his parents grew a concern for his lack of appetite and weight loss. We snapped a few shots of his abdomen, and lo and behold, a foreign object was noted in his intestines indicating obstruction 🤒
Boof was then moved to theatre where an exploratory laparotomy was urgently performed, and the object was removed. The object turned out to be a thick, collapsed rubber ball! 🎾
Boof made a full recovery post surgery, and went home to his relieved parents! We hope Boof has a greater appreciation for his toys now, and realises they are indeed, not food 💛🎉
Congratulations to nurse Sarah, who has completed her studies and is now a fully qualified veterinary nurse 🩺💗 we’re so proud of you Sarah! Your hard work and dedication to completing your qualification has been amazing. We’re so excited to continue to watch you grow 🐾

This week is Dog Anxiety Awareness Week 🐶
This week is a time to recognise anxiety in dogs, and how our pets can be suffering.
Signs of dog anxiety include:
- barking
- growling
- whimpering
- lunging
- trembling
- ears back
- avoiding eye contact
- restlessness
- licking of lips
- panting
If you are concerned that your dog may be experiencing anxiety, or is showing odd behaviour, please give us a call now to discuss with your local veterinarian 🩺

Sophie’s Legacy was set up in 2021 by the family of Sophie Putland, a veterinarian, who died by su***de after being bullied by an angry pet owner.
They have launched the “We’re Only Human” campaign - a national campaign urging people to be kind to veterinary staff.
The most common issue veterinary staff have identified as causing widespread mental illness is client abuse. Other issues like burnout and under resourcing were also identified.
We stand alongside Sophie’s parents, Garry and Kate, her brothers Tom and Oliver and all of our veterinary colleagues nationwide in asking you to recognise that “We’re Only Human”.

Our vets see a range of different animals daily, making everyday interesting! Dr Tamara was out and about in the community last week, and visited ‘Mav’, the Donkey 🫏 A light sedation was provided, and a routine dental was performed. Annual dentals are important in all equine species, as periodontal disease is extremely common amongst them 🦷 If you think your equine friend is due for their yearly dental, or may be due for a dental check, please call the clinic on (07) 4662 2301, to speak to one off our friendly staff.
Today we’re sharing a behind the scenes video of what happens when a pet is brought into the clinic for a desexing procedure 🩺 Desexing (also known as sterilisation, speying, castrating or neutering) your pet is highly recommended by our DDVS team. Not only are there numerous health benefits for your pet, but the number of unplanned puppies and kittens ending up in animal shelters is also drastically reduced. For roaming pets like outdoor cats (whose neighbourhood adventures are hard to track), desexing your pet is especially important. A special thank you to Ziggy, for being the star of the show!
