Recently Dalby & District Vets had the honour of hosting the Buisness After Hours Event for August 🌟

It was an amazing turn out, and an evening of networking with our local business & community. We thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to show the community who we are, and what we do, as well as highlighting that as a team, we are locals supporting locals 🏘️

We would like to congratulate Colin Waters, the “Dalby Donut Man”, on his achievement of being named the Chamber Champion from the 31 Faces of Small Business Campaign which was held in May 🍩

Also a special shoutout to one of our lovely clients Bev, from Dalby Dealers Furniture who won the lucky door prize - a best mates membership! 🐶

✨ Sponsorship Spotlight ✨

Thank you to Dalby & District Veterinary Services, DHA Rural, ANZ, Golders Australia and Synergy Consolidated for coming on board as silver sponsors for this years draft. Your support is very much appreciated!

One of the best parts about being a vet? Being able to provide veterinary care to your own animals 😇

After a busy week, Dr Jordan spent his Sunday giving his horses a routine dental. Pictured is one of his geldings ‘Duckie’ (very fitting name by his young son), a 2yr old quarter horse 🐴

You may see Dr Jordan out with his two gelding’s at local events and shows, as he is on the committee of the Darling Downs Stock Horse Society, as well as the Dalby & District Campdraft Society 🐎

🚨 Foster mum required 🚨

Unfortunately one of our clients has lost their beloved dog, who was also pregnant. Her puppies are alive and well, however, they are seeking a foster mum to raise them! Please give the clinic a call (07) 4662 2301 if you’re able to help.

** EDIT - client is looking for a lactating bitch, not a person to look after the puppies 😁

Last night's Business After Hours was another fantastic evening of networking for our local businesses.

Thank you to Dalby & District Veterinary Services for showing us through your new clinic at 5 Drayton Street, Dalby, and sharing your veterinary expertise for all small and large animals. 🐕

Congratulations to Jacinta Fenwick from Elders Residential Dalby for receiving the August Exceptional Service Award, sponsored by Carrick Aland. 🏆

Peter McKinnon, a valued Dalby Chamber Lifetime Member, presented the shield to Colin Watters, our " Dalby Donut Man" as the Chamber Champion from the 31 Faces of Small Business Campaign which was held in May. 🍩

To finish the evening, Bev from Dalby Dealers Furniture was the winner of the lucky door prize. 🎁

🐱 Today is International Cat Day 🐱

International Cat Database is a day to raise awareness for cats and learn about ways to help and protect them.

Here are some fun cat facts that you may not know:
👀 A cats field of vision is 200 degrees
🐾 Cats only sweat through their paws
🐯 House cats share 95.6% of their genetic makeup with tigers
⏰ 1 year of cats life is equal to 15 years of a humans life
🛀 Cats spend nearly 1/3rd of their lives cleaning themselves

We wanted to celebrate today by sharing some photos of our in-house feline extraordinaire - Dr Tamara 🐈💗

⛑️ Case Study - Little Hank ⛑️

Hank was brought into clinic after his owner had growing concerns after he had been vomiting and not eating.

The team decided to process with some diagnostic imaging and an ultrasound, which unfortunately showed evidence of an intussusception, where a section of intestine teloscopes into another part, essentially ‘swallowing’ itself. Emergency surgery was required, and Dr Jordan and Dr Tamara began an Exploratory Laparotomy, where they located the intussusception.

This intussusception was extremely profound, and the Dr’s were unable to correct it. It was deemed necessary to resect the area of bowel containing the intussusception, and perform a anastomosis, a surgical connection between to lengths of intestine. The difficulty with this particular case was the diseased part of gut was at the junction between the small and large intestines. Great care was required to accurately suture these different-sized sections of intestine back together in a water-tight manner. The surgery was successful, and after a few days post recovery, Hank was eating again and able to return home.

Hank has been going really well, and recently came in for his post operative check up and a vaccine. We are so grateful to see this poor pup back to health! 🐶⭐️

🦷 August is Pet Dental Animal Month 🦷

Ditch the bad cat and dog breath and get a free dental check with one of nurses here at Dalby and District Vets in the month of August! 🪥

National Pet Dental Month was created to highlight how important oral health is to the overall health, happiness and wellbeing of your pet. Effective dental care is as critical for dogs as it is for humans. Neglecting oral hygiene in dogs can lead to issues like tartar build up, gum disease, bad breath and other larger health issues like heart disease, liver disease and kidney disease. It is therefore extremely important to get your pets teeth checked regularly by a veterinary professional 🩺👩🏼‍⚕️👨🏻‍⚕️

Recently a kelpie was brought into clinic post being hit by a car. Unfortunately, the dog sustained some major injuries, including a broken tibia (hind leg), and lots of tissue damage and bruising as pictured below ☹️🤕

Dr Jordan placed a plate on the fracture, to help restore alignment of the bone, and in turn, repair the break. This doggo will be on strict bed rest, and will be rechecked in a few weeks to ensure the fractured has healed 🦴

⚠️ WARNING - graphic content ⚠️

‘Box’ was out hunting with his owner and got into a little altercation with a pig! Unfortunately, Box did not come out on top and was rushed into the clinic with torn artery on his right forelimb 🚑

Dr Tamara performed an emergency procedure to ligate the artery and stop the bleeding. Box was still in critical condition, and due to the large loss of blood, he was provided with a blood transfusion 🩸The team stabilised Box over the next few days, and it wasn’t until this point Dr Claire was able to clean and suture the wound completely closed.

Box is now home, and is doing very well! We hope he is back out soon doing what he loves 🐾

What was stuck in this dog’s belly?! 😵

Boof was brought into the clinic as his parents grew a concern for his lack of appetite and weight loss. We snapped a few shots of his abdomen, and lo and behold, a foreign object was noted in his intestines indicating obstruction 🤒

Boof was then moved to theatre where an exploratory laparotomy was urgently performed, and the object was removed. The object turned out to be a thick, collapsed rubber ball! 🎾

Boof made a full recovery post surgery, and went home to his relieved parents! We hope Boof has a greater appreciation for his toys now, and realises they are indeed, not food 💛🎉
