I have always had a passion for animals and their behaviour, especially dogs. I rescued one of our family dogs Orion from a local community, he was covered in ticks and barely alive. This was the first dog I had trained, When I was 15 i was mauled by a family friends’ dog. This was a setback in my relationship with Orion as i was nervous to play with him aft

er returning from surgery. It was a long recovery, but I was able to get passed my fear, but the question of why the dog had attacked me had always made me wonder. Over the years I have worked in multiple roles in the animal industry, i have been a zookeeper, vet nurse and have worked in pet stores as a salesperson and a dog trainer. My first role as a dog trainer was while I was working at a pet store, where i decided to start Alpha Omega Dogs. At the time i had my dog Zeus who had anxiety and aggression issues, so i began studying canine behaviour as there was nothing in the training course that helped with behavioural issues. I saw there was a need for a personal approach to training, not every dog or family is the same so they shouldn’t be treated or trained the same way. Since then I have studied canine psychology My dream was to have smaller classes so clients could have more time with their trainers and private training that was tailored to each household. This dream is now a reality

🌟 Part of raising a well-rounded assistance dog means giving them experiences that challenge and strengthen their skills—and Harlow’s been absolutely shining at it!

To help him on his training journey, Harlow has been visiting our local kindy 🧒🐶 This kind of exposure is so valuable—not just for Harlow, but for the kids too. His role? Stay cool, calm, and collected while being patted, hugged, and adored by little hands.

It’s all about building emotional resilience and trust, which are essential traits for psychiatric assistance work. Plus, these kindy kids are learning about kindness, empathy, and the important jobs assistance dogs do in our communities.

Watching Harlow stay grounded under all that excitement makes me incredibly proud—not just as his handler. This is exactly the kind of connection and confidence we build into our programs 🐾✨

Sometimes we borrow our clients’ dogs for a bit of cheeky hands-on practice 🤣 Say hello to Vida—the newest little rocket in our Level One Obedience program!

Her handler already works with one of our top Senior Obedience stars, Gotcha, and now Vida’s stepping up with serious energy and enthusiasm. She’s already proving herself to be a little powerhouse in training 💥

In this video, we’re working on the free drop—a skill that’s not only quicker than the traditional sit-drop but also easier on your dog’s hips. That speed, confidence, and smooth movement? Exactly what we love to see at this stage!

🌟 With our new programs launching in July, I thought—why not dive into the incredible world of psychiatric assistance dogs and the life-changing tasks they perform?

This handsome guy right here is Harlow, my assistance dog and constant companion. In this photo, he’s performing a task called a "rest". This gentle, grounding pressure can:

🤍 Help release tension and calm the nervous system
🤍 Interrupt spiralling or intrusive thoughts
🤍 Provide emotional support during panic attacks

Every assistance dog is trained to suit their handler’s unique needs, and this is just one of the many amazing ways they make daily life more manageable for those living with PTSD, anxiety, and other psychiatric conditions.

As the head trainer at Alpha Lykos, I’ve seen firsthand how these dogs change lives—starting with my own. Stay tuned as we explore even more of the meaningful work these dogs do 🐾💙

Alpha Omega Dogs is a locally run all indoor dog daycare and training facility, our facility will be largest in Cairns and won’t disappoint. Our team of experienced trainers and animal attendants have fun filled enrichment activities and new friends for your dog to share the experience. Our facility will give your dogs the opportunity to socialise with a variety of dogs, learn new skills and use excess energy. Returning home they will be happy, relaxed and attentive.
