The Acavallo® Raffaello dressage saddle is an exquisite monoflap saddle made in double calfskin with wool panels.

It is supremely comfortable with a narrow twist, a lovely deep seat and incredibly well-designed knee blocks.

The tree is a steel/nylon composite tree to ensure the perfect amount of flexibility or stability is present in the various parts of the saddle. This is essential to allow the adjustability of the saddle as well as the dissipation of forces whilst still providing correct support for both the horse and the rider.

It is easily adjusted as it has the revolutionary MAG gullet adjustment system. This is a ground-breaking and patented system allowing the gullet to be unlocked, adjusted to the millimeter and then locked again.

Good explanation on why saddle length is so important but also great to show the angle of the last rib. Most people are able to feel where the last rib is but often do not follow it up to the spine correctly.

People often ask why we don’t list the Scharf Freedom Girths on the online shop and the reason is that often we need to see photos of your horse to work out the best model and correct length. There is no point buying a fancy girth that is designed to work in a particular way if you buy the wrong one!

The one pictured here is the Backtrack model, designed for horses that have large round bellies, a forward girth groove and/or loose skin or any other problem around the elbow.

The Scharf Freedom girths are just amazing! They are beautifully made and incredibly well designed. Their unique, patented design has two separate ventral plates to ensure no pressure is placed on the sternum allowing each side of the pectoral muscles to move independently.

The design and placement of the lateral plates do not interfere with the expansion of the rib cage and many riders comment on how different their horse feels when using this girth. Some will show a marked increase in stride length, others flow better through their entire body.

Great to see more jump girths being ordered. Available both with and without stud guards.

These girths are proving time and time again to make a difference in the way horses move, both on the flat and over jumps. Riders comment that their horses seem so much freer!

For dressage riders with big horses we now have an 80cm in stock for test riding as well as the standard smaller sizes so be in touch whenever suits!

We've been having a lot of people asking questions about saddle trees since our last post so thought it was a good idea to reshare this.
If you have a look at the photos and notice the difference in length and angle of some of these tree points you will see how they would be best suited to different shaped horses. When choosing a saddle for your horse you want to find one with a tree that fits as closely as possible to your horse's back. This includes amongst other things, the width at the head, angle and length of the tree points, overall length of saddle, angle and shape of the rails all the way to the cantle.
We are so fortunate nowadays in that there are many different, wonderful saddles available at great prices! No need to ever settle for second best!

Another absolutely fantastic post from saddlefitting.us and something I find myself explaining daily to clients. PLEASE take the time to read this post. It is so incredibly important and so often misunderstood.

Saddles that are TOO WIDE as well as saddles that are TOO NARROW will feel tight - just in different areas. Widening out gullets is not always the correct answer.
