Let’s face it everyday is celebrate our dogs day however today is just a great reminder to pause and reflect on the beauty of these incredible creatures and how lucky we are to share our lives with.

Unfortunately there are so many dogs who remain in shelters and rescue groups. That’s why the aim of International Dog Day is to bring awareness to rescuing and adopting dogs from these amazing organisations.

Every dog no matter size, shape, breed or age all deserve a loving, safe and joy filled life.

We are huge advocates for rescue dogs. They bring so much love into the home and no doubt will bury themselves into your heart forever ❤️

It’s been one year today that our sweet little Sunny left this world 🌈🐾

We couldn’t have planned a more beautiful farewell to a very much loved little soul. As heartbreaking as it was, it was perfect for her. She found peace.

Safe to say life really hasn’t been the same without her. She brought joy to us and her big sister Grommie.
We still include her in our daily life…we still sing our songs and go on our walks together.

But grief is a fickle thing.
It hits you when you least expect it, when you think things are getting a bit easier, you’re starting to smile more than you cry and then bam! A little memory comes in.
Something so small that she did everything day but you had forgotten.
It’s those moments you realise the love you have lost. But. I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s the price you pay for love.

“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” Winnie the Pooh 💜

Sunday Share ❤️

Spent an enjoyable training session teaching this beautiful girl a nose touch.
She really started to get the hang of it and is a smart little one and very quick to learn.

What’s the benefit of teaching a nose touch?

It’s a great target behaviour to get your dog to focus on you when distracted. Great for recall and guiding them to different positions and loose lead walking just to name a few.
Also good for building a positive relationship with your dog and it’s super fun!

It’s just one of the many strategies we use when helping dogs and their humans.
If you want to know more book in a free 15 minute BarknChat to see how we can help you with your doggy challenges 🐾

We spent an enjoyable session this weekend with this beautiful little girl teaching her to go to a mat.

So what’s the benefits of training your dog to go to a mat or bed you may wonder!

It’s good to teach your dog self control and to relax on cue which is great when you have visitors or someone is at the door.

Also great for dogs who are counter surfers or who like getting under your feet whilst you are cooking.

You can take a portable mat with you for your dog to go to when out and about and staying relaxed in new situations. Like going to a cafe.

The benefits are numerous and you notice such a difference when your dog has learnt this skill.

Happy Sunday everyone 😊☀️

A good reminder to have the word ‘yes’ in our training plan.
It’s so easy to focus on the behaviour we don’t want instead of looking at what we want our dogs to do.

Theory Thursday - Say YES more often!

Saying 'no' or 'ahah' to your dog's 'bad' behavior won't work. It is also unpleasant for both parties.
Instead, acknowledge good behaviour with a 'yes', folllowed by a treat, praise, or play (whatever your dog finds reinforcing) and your dog will repeat it, allowing you to say 'yes' more often and create good habits.

Our Grommie turned sweet 16 today ❤️
Her day started with the obligatory melody of many songs with 16 in them (with our own spin of course).
Followed by her birthday walk, breakfast and presents. Sunny was with us in spirit(taking off with Grommie’s new toy as usual).

The birthday girl is currently snoring away contently.
It’s hard work being 16!

Happy birthday gorgeous girl 🐾🎂 We love you xx

Today we have reached yet again another incredible milestone. We are celebrating Grommie’s 3 year post splenectomy anniversary 🥰

For those who do not know our journey. 3 years ago our world was turned upside down with this shock cancer diagnosis of splenic hemangiosarcoma (an aggressive form of cancer). We had only been given 3 months at most. Let’s just say she had other plans. For this we have dubbed her our miracle child and our little trooper 🐕

She has encountered each step of the way with a tremendous fighting spirit and defied all odds. With only approximately 10% of dogs making it to 1 year diagnosis. From monthly vet check-ups and acupuncture, range of various herbs, and supplements. Plus having to deal with our abundant rituals which most of them involve our really bad singing 🤣

The amount of joy and light she shines in our lives is profound. Not one day has gone by where we have not felt the infinite gratitude and know how blessed we are to have her with us.

This journey has highlighted some very important learning opportunities for us. To be totally still and be in the moment. To truly understand how precious time is with those who we care so deeply for ❤️

Today is also a bitter sweet day for us. While we are celebrating Grommie’s amazing milestone, it’s also a reminder that we have been 6 months without our little ray of sunshine, Sunny. We still fondly reminisce and miss our girl every day 💚

So today we choose to celebrate both our fur babies on this one significant day. To always cherish the time we have with the ones we love ❤️💜💚

Had a wonderful last two days helping dogs overcome struggles. These range from being over excited to walking calmly on a lead to being calm around other dogs.

I finished today with this beautiful girl! She has done so well with learning some great foundation skills and has such dedicated guardians. She was worn out by the end of the session! Grommie definitely was wondering who I had been with thats for sure!! 😂

We are booked out now for this month but opening up for sessions in mid March so book in a bark n chat and see if we can help you with your dogs struggles.

Goodbye 2023 🙏❤️🐾

Despite its challenges it was a big reminder to always be grateful for those around us, be present and enjoy the small things in life.

Sunny taught us that and Grommie continues to 🐾❤️

Just sharing this for Rescue Hub in the hopes that there may be someone out there who may be able to offer a temporary solution(or better still permanent) for Asher.
The pounds are bursting and it’s heartbreaking.

Please consider adopting or even fostering this Christmas and any other time of the year

** UPDATE **
Asher is safe with Rescue Hub ❤️

‼️🆘️ CRITICAL URGENT FOSTER HOME NEEDED ASAP 🆘️‼️

Rescue Hub can only save this beautiful boy if we can find an urgent foster home in the Greater Sydney Region.

Everything will be supplied for Asher including training support. It won't cost you a single cent to love and care for this boy. He just needs time to decompress from a stressful and noisy pound environment. Can you offer Asher a temporary home?

We all know an overcrowded, stressful, noisy pound environment can cause or escalate problems in dogs. Asher just needs to be given a chance to decompress, to be given some extra training and the chance to blossom in a better environment.

Cattle X
Male 4-6yrs

POUND NOTES ON ASHER:
• Dog Social: Could be ok with training but may have built some reactivity being in the pound environment.

• Temperament: Sweet boy who is very intelligent but also cheeky. He has an aptitude for training however is easily over aroused and becomes mouthy. He is a playful boy and when he is well-behaved, he is just adorable and loves to cuddle you.

• Desexed: Yes

Asher is a big bundle of energy! Being a cattle dog, he has instincts to herd and can be a little mouthy at times, but in the right home, we know he will flourish. He will need training to encourage him to keep his paws on the floor and to not use his mouth to hold you, but he is the most willing student.

Already Asher will listen when you talk to him and does his best to be a good boy. Asher also enjoys affection and would love a family who can give him daily cuddles and lots of attention. Asher is most suited to a home without small children, with space and an owner who has a love for training.

This time for many of us across the globe can be really challenging with the summer heat. It's no surprise that summer months are getting hotter over the years. Like us our dogs and pets really struggle in hot days, but they can’t go and grab a cool drink from the fridge or pop the air conditioner

Anticipatory Grief

When we were first given the diagnosis about Sunny we had this overwhelming feeling of loss before she had even passed. It was really confusing and heartbreaking. What we didn’t know at the time was that we were going through what is known as Anticipatory Grief.

It is so real and yet we knew little about it at the time till we contacted the wonderful Rest Your Paws Team who helped us through the whole process.

You feel so lost, confused, guilty, angry, the list goes on - knowing that the end is real and having someone there to help navigate this is a blessing.
Knowing Grommie’s diagnosis (and only given 3 months) meant we have essentially been on this journey for the past 2 1/2 years without realising it. Whilst it certainly didn’t prepare us for Sunny and losing her just having knowledge of this and how to deal with it has been helpful and reassuring.

I wanted to share this blog from Rest Your Paws in the hopes that anyone who is or has experienced this will not feel alone in what you are going through.

💧Top Tip Tuesday💧

Essential oils when used correctly can be an amazing addition to dog training. They can support a dog with calming and focus and also help us too.

However It is important to remember to give your dog choice. EOs are potent and dogs have very sensitive noses. We love self selction sessions for this exact thing. The dogs can come and go and 'try out' the oils on offer to them. We leave the cap on when doing a self selection session with animals and love how seeing how they respond.
Check out our safety tips for more info on how to use EO's safely with yiur pets.
