We’ve been dedicated to the health and happiness of pets since 1966. Abandoned or unwanted, ill or injured – we do what’s needed to give every pet a healthy life in a happy home. We’re a charity, so the more help you give us, the more help we

can give pets. Euthanasia for economic reason we totally oppose; the only reason an animal will be euthanised is in cases of aggressive temperament (with no hope for rehabilitation), the animal is a danger to itself, or the animal is extremely unwell or in extreme discomfort

🐕 Adoption Tail Tuesday! 🐈

"Mango, who has since been named Fyn (pronounced "Finn"), has been an absolute joy to have in my life.
The first couple of nights were a bit rough for us, as we both kept waking up to check on each other. Yet, from the first night Fyn wanted to come sleep on my bed with me, which I have found to be so sweet.

We have enjoyed many play sessions in the morning and at night. He has gotten used to our morning and evening routines (food, toileting ect), and I'm surprised as to how quickly he has taken to everything.

Since bringing him home, I've also discovered that loves to have a nice cuddle after I get home from work, and he likes to sit on my lap and snuggle while I'm watching TV or writing music in my home studio. He's a very cuddly boy and most times can be found sitting right next to my feet or behind me...he just loves to be close.

I'm currently trying to train him to use a scratch mat, but I'm not sure if he likes the cardboard texture, so I may have to change to another kind of mat....and he is intruiged by my housemates plants (thankfully he hasn't tried to eat them).

Other than that, Fyn is such a beautiful boy, who is confident, cuddly and so sweet with his nightly kisses and head-bops.
I still can't get over how small he is. He's the perfect-sized kitty for me.

Beautiful Isla is looking for an owner who can match her enthusiasm for life!

Isla is a whole lot of adorable and only a tiny bit cross-eyed 😋 which only adds to her charm! She is a silly, energetic pup who has such a zest for life, it's impossible not to let it rub off on you!

Isla would love to find herself an active, mature family that will dedicate the time to providing her with a solid foundation of obedience training to help her control her enthusiasm.
Sometimes her excitement can get the better of her and she forgets her manners and can be very jumpy. This might overwhelm or knock over young children, so we do recommend Isla goes to a home with children over the age of 16.

Isla also has a very sweet and cuddly side and loves to snuggle up with any human she meets. Though she is quite friendly when meeting other dogs, Isla has had arguments over food in the past, so will need to be the only dog in her new home.

This big goofy boy is searching for a family to smother with love!

Axel is a very friendly and very large boy. He is eager to learn and everything he does is done with absolute enthusiasm! He will need a strong and capable owner who will be confident to handle his strength while he is still learning.

Axel is doing extremely well learning to walk nicely on a halti, but gets a bit over-excited when he sees other dogs out on his walks and is very capable of pulling someone over. He seems to be friendly with other dogs, but we do recommend that he be a single dog for the time-being while he and his owner get to know each other and get his training down pat.

Due to his 50kg size and excitability, Axel is recommended for a home with children 16 and over.

The lovely Gavin has decided that he is ready to leave the shelter and start his new life!

Gavin has had quite the journey with us over the last four months. Likely having never had any contact with humans before, he was understandably terrified when his world was suddenly turned upside down.
Though he put up his walls and would hiss and spit, we could see that this poor boy was simply just scared and trying to protect himself. And so, we began the long journey of slowly, slowly, gaining Gavin's trust.

Today, we are proud to say that Gavin has been brave enough to show us what a sweet boy he really is! He is making new friends every day and it doesn't take long at all before he is nuzzling into your hand for pats, and even climbing onto your lap!

Sweet Gavin will need a nurturing owner who will understand that he will need some extra time and care to help him become comfortable in his new home, but we are so sure that he will reward them with lots of love and gratitude for the rest of his happy life.

He will need a quiet home with no children and no other pets. As he is FIV positive, Gavin will also need to be an indoor only boy.

Clover is a spunky lady with loads of personality squashed into a very cute, furry little package. She can be very energetic, loves to play with toys and is always entertaining the staff with her zoomies around her pen!

This sweet little lady is ready to meet her new family!

Dolly is quite unsure when meeting new people, but once you win her over, she's a fantastic little companion who loves to be close to her person - quite often taking up her favourite position on your lap and enjoying some scratches.

Dolly will require multiple meets at the shelter before she will be comfortable enough to go home with you, and will need an adult-only home. She would also prefer to have at least one of her humans home to keep her company a lot of the time. She may not mind the company of another dog, but much prefers humans as her companions.

Dolly is a huge foodie and is quite active, really enjoying going on her daily walks. She does, however, have a high-grade luxating patella on one leg, which may need surgery in the future.

This gorgeous senior man is looking for a relaxing retirement home.

Levi is a man of simple pleasures in his golden years, and all he asks for is a warm home with comfy spots to sleep, someone to keep him company, and a daily stroll around the block.

He doesn't appreciate other dogs coming into his space, so will need to be the only dog in his new home, though he seems to be fine to live with children of any age.
Levi would really appreciate if his owners were away no more than part-time working hours.

This lovely old man is currently on some pain relief for arthritis in his hind legs, and will require this indefinitely.

Chickpea is a friendly and rambunctious kitten who's not fazed by anything! We are sure that he will hit the ground running in any home and be tearing around in no time.

As is common in kittens that haven't grown up with siblings, Chickpea can be very rough with his playstyle and doesn't quite know his strength when he gets carried away with play-biting. Because of this, he would not be recommended for a home with young children.

Poor Larry needs to find a home as soon as possible!

Larry came into our shelter in quite a state. It was obvious that the poor boy had been living with ear and skin infections untreated for some time, and after a visit to the vets, his long list of health issues unfortunately only grew.

Typical to his breed, Larry has a grade 3 heart murmur which has caused his heart to become enlarged, and has subsequently led to the development of fluid in his lungs. He also has the beginnings of calcification and pigmentation in his eyes. He is currently on four different medications for these issues, which he will likely require for life, and may also need a small procedure on his eyes to further help with their overall health.

Unfortunately, Larry's heart medication needs to be given every 12 hours which is something that we are simply unable to do at the shelter. This means that while we are doing the best we can, he isn't getting the full care that he needs and is why we need to find him a home as soon as possible.

Larry will need a very dedicated owner who is able to provide him with his medications without fail, and bare the significant costs associated with them.

Though he needs to be the only dog in his new home, he may be suitable to live in a home a dog-savvy cat or children.

General administration via shelter manager software
Completing surrender and adoption paperwork

🐕 Adoption Tail Tuesday! 🐈
"I wanted to give you a quick update on Bear, whom we adopted six months ago. He's doing amazingly well! Bear has gained a healthy 10 kilograms (approx 39kgs) and is looking incredibly happy and healthy.
He is the perfect dog with a big appetite and good behaviour (not chasing cars etc). On the weekend he comes to restaurants and cafes with us and is infamous in Mornington with always getting heaps of attention and pats.
Thank you for bringing Bear into our lives, we love him and are so grateful to how he is thriving and doing well being part of our family." 💙

Our dogs have so much fun ripping into their enrichment, which helps make bedtime a positive experience for all! Tyson was lucky enough to spend the day at home with one of our dedicated animal carers last week! He had such a wonderful time sniffing in the backyard, going for a walk, watching a movie, and he even made a new friend! 🐈 He was a very respectful and well-behaved guest and will certainly be invited back again 🥰

We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who made a donation this December or bought one of our Christmas baubles! 🎄 We were able to purchase a special gift for each of our animals to open tomorrow morning and they are all wrapped and ready to go! Merry Christmas Eve!

Our Story

Blue Cross Animals Society of Victoria is a Pro Life Animal Shelter, we rehome Cats, Dogs, Kittens, puppies and other animals whose future would be bleak without our care. We’ve been dedicated to the health and happiness of animals since 1966. Abandoned or unwanted, ill or injured – we do what’s needed to give every animal a healthy life in a happy home. We’re a charity, so the more help you give us, the more help we can give the animals. We care for hundreds of animals every year, euthanasia for economic reason we totally oppose, the only reason an animal will be euthanised is in cases of aggressive temperament (with no hope for rehabilitation) the animal is a danger to itself or the animal is extremely unwell or in extreme discomfort. We find homes for those whose future would be bleak without our care. Our personal touch ensures we help each animal find the right forever home for them.
