A non-profit cat and dog re-homing centre relying on the generosity of volunteers and the local community. The Hahndorf Interim Animal Shelter Inc.

unofficially opened it's doors in 1992 to care for abandoned dogs. In 1997 the Shelter was officially incorporated as a charity, and not for profit entity caring for cats and dogs. It's founders are Sue Whelan and Dorothy Caddle who hope to re-home all pets that come through the Shelter. Some animals find homes quickly, others take longer because of needing rehabilitation, like trust, love and con

fidence. No animal is put down simply because it was unwanted. We would emphasize that this is an EMERGENCY Shelter for abandoned pets; we are not prepared to take pets simply because their owners don't want them anymore. We advise owners to advertise their pets. The Shelter is run on a voluntary basis, without government funding. We rely on the generosity of the community for donations of canned and dry food, fresh bones, kitty litter, blankets and towels, toys and treats, etc. We have collection tins in many Hills shops and collection crates in many supermarkets. We always needs more volunteers and it is a great way to keep fit! Our main fundraiser is a Calendar we bring out usually in October, with stories and photos of pets we have re-homed. At $5 it is a lovely Christmas present for your friends who love animals. We also hold an annual 4 Paws Walk In Stirling in November. The Shelter is the Pound for the District Council of Mt Barker and the Adelaide Hills Council. Many dogs are unclaimed, probably because the dog is untrained, has not been part of a family or simply become a nuisance. These dogs often need reassurance, love and to learn respect and manners!! Often their coats are so matted and dirty that it is hard to recognize the breed. After a bath and clip, a new character emerges, free for knotty hair and far happier. Our Newsletter is full of heart-warming stories from people who have true commitment to the pets they have adopted from us.

He is a de-sexed, micro chipped and vaccinated, 5-6months old, Kelpie cross. He is a shy, young puppy. He will gain confidence with obedience training and socialization.

TURBO
He is a de-sexed, micro chipped and vaccinated, 1 year old, Mastiff cross. He came in a sad, skinny boy. Now he has gained weight and confidence, he is a very big, boofy boy, who is wary of other dogs.

She is a de-sexed, micro chipped and vaccinated, approximately 2 years old, Staffy/Beagle. She is a lovely girl who could do with more training.

He is a de-sexed, micro chipped and vaccinated, 4 year old, Rottweiler Cross. He is a big buffy boy who loves people. He will need training. Does need suitable fencing.

She is a de-sexed, micro chipped and vaccinated, 3 year old, may be Kelpie cross. She is a dear little girl for the right owner. She doesn't like small animals including small dogs and cats. She would probably find children overwhelming. She is a smaller dog maybe the size of a smaller Kelpie with a longer body.

He is a de-sexed, micro chipped and vaccinated, 1 year old, Labrador cross. He is an energic young dog who loves to play with his girlfriend. He could do with more training.

He is a de-sexed, micro chipped and vaccinated, 1 year old, Kelpie/Staffy. He is a young dog who is good natured and is good with other dogs. He would love to do some more training.

She is about 8 months old. Kelpie cross. Desexed vaccinated and micro chipped.
She is a sweet natured puppy. Currently plays with other dogs. Her whole body wiggles when she says hello.

Adoption hour alert. We're mixing it up and changing our hours. From now on, Fridays and Saturdays are the days to visit us from 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm. Thursdays are now by appointment only. Yep, that means we're saying goodbye to our old hours of Thursday through Saturday from 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm.

MAGGIE MAE She is a de-sexed, micro chipped and vaccinated, 4 year old, Australian Stumpy Tail. She is a surrendered pet who needs someone new to be loyal to. She is good with children but can be protective and isn't good with other dogs.

We had a wonderful day yesterday at the shelter. We had Dr Bradley with vet nurse Tylani from Avenue Road Stirling Veterinary Surgery, vaccinate all of the dogs in our care. What an amazing effort. Thank you very much Avenue Road Stirling Veterinary Surgery for donating all of the vaccinations and staff to administer vaccinations to all of our dogs. Thank you again for kindness and generosity.
