We are sorry to advise but due to the current weather and flooding on the central coast , puppy preschool will NOT be on this afternoon. Emergency services have advised to avoid unnecessary travel .

We will recommence next week with week 2 of training .

This is Ollie a 6 year old Cocker Spaniel that ate a nectarine seed.

Ollie’s owners noticed him hunching over , vomiting, off his food and not himself . They brought him into us for a consultation with Dr Briar. We then ran some blood tests and took some X-rays . As you can see from the X-ray , there was a foreign body in his intestines.

Dr Steve performed an Exploratory Laparotomy and removed the seed.

Ollie is now in recovery and doing well !

::Ronnie ::

Here is the story of Ronnie our very own staff members puppy ! Ronnie ate a hat.. yep you read it right , a hat🧢

Tamazin came home after work to find Ronnie had chewed a hat and the brim had been completely chewed off. Later that night Ronnie felt unwell , and vomited pieces of the brim up.

Tamazin brought Ronnie to work the next morning and we conducted some radiographs , which indicated there was some foreign body material in his gut. An exploratory laparotomy was the only choice and well, the pictures below are self explanatory and the rest is history.

Thanks to Dr Bruce for saving Ronnie’s life and acting quickly.

Butter wouldn’t melt hey Ronnie so innocent and cute in recovery 🙈

This is Reins… looks innocent and cute right ?? well you are right,he is but he put our team and his owners through a lot of stress and worry last week. Here is a really great, feel good story that ends well , so read on..

Reins came to our practice last week and presented as a very unwell dog. Lethargic , depressed , vomiting and very sick. The pet parents of Reins were concerned that he may have ingested some macadamia nuts off their tree at home. Our team admitted Reins for some abdominal X-rays in which revealed there was some type of foreign body that was causing an obstruction. An expoloratory laparotomy was our next step. Dr Faye was our surgeon, as we opened up Reins, we found two macadamia nuts in the small intestine , one nut made it all the way to the colon but got completely stuck there.
Dr Faye had to remove the dead section of the intestines between the two nuts. She made a third enterotomy in between the other two to remove a load of nut husks. Rein’s Intestines were all very angry and inflamed. Reins stayed with us overnight and was still a very very unwell patient, we were unsure if he would make it through.

The next morning Dr Faye and our team worked tirelessly ensuring he would pull through and his amazing pet parents were so committed and loving they came in to the clinic and visited him and helped nurse him through the next few crucial hours . Reins really responded to their presence and we are pleased to say HE MADE a full recovery .

These are the cases that make our hard days so worth it 🩵

Important ; Macadamia nut ingestion signs of poisoning develop 3-24 hours after ingestion and include weakness, reluctance to get up/stand, reluctance to walk, trembling, lethargy, vomiting and fever. 🌰 🍂

As most of you know Sophie Putland, 33 Veterinary surgeon tragically took her own life in September 2021, after industry pressures and client abuse became too much .

🐾67% of vet staff reported in 2021, that they suffered from mental health and are seeking professional help

🐾Vets are 4 times more likely to die by su***de than the general population

🐾On average a vet does by su***de every 12 weeks.

Every worker in the veterinarian industry is passionate about animals and wants the best health outcome for the pets they look after.

That’s why every day they come to work and do what they do, taking care of animals and in many cases, caring for their owners.

But within the profession, there are some confronting facts this industry is dealing with.

Sophies Legacy have launched a National Education Campaign to honour Sophie and help stem the shocking su***de rate among veterinarians.

The “We’re Only Human” campaign asks pet and animal owners to take the pledge to be kind and respectful and to understand the massive pressures impacting veterinary staff.
