How lucky are we?!

Everyone knows that puppy cuddles are great, but they're even greater x11! Dr. Taylah got the privilege of giving these sweet Amstaff pups their first vaccinations and microchips so that they are ready for their new homes 🐾

If you'd like a quote to get your litter up to date, or simply don't fancy wrangling 50 tiny paws into the car, you can chat to us via phone, text or email on 0459 090 783 or [email protected] 🐶

**Cat vaccines!**

We're excited to let you know that we've managed to secure a limited, small amount of F3 vaccines until the next order arrives, which will hopefully be within the next few weeks. Unfortunately this does not include the FIV vaccine as this is anticipated to arrive in August.

Why are cat vaccinations important?
Much like dogs, cats are susceptible to viruses that can make them very unwell. The governing body for veterinary vaccinations, the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA), recommends all cats - indoor and outdoor - receive at least an F3 vaccination annually as it is considered a "core" vaccine. It is also important to know that all catteries and kennels require an up-to-date F3 vaccination prior to entry.

What does an F3 cover?
• Feline Panleukopenia (intestinal virus, can be fatal. From the Parvovirus family!)
• Feline Calicivirus (upper respiratory/oral disease)
• Feline Rhinotracheitis virus (upper respiratory infection)

For more information, or to secure a an F3 vaccination for your cat/s today, you can call or text on 0459 090 783 or email us at [email protected]

Have you noticed that the cooler weather has resulted in your pet slowing down, showing increased joint stiffness and reluctancy to get out of bed? It is estimated that up to 80% of dogs will have experienced some degree of arthritis by the age of 8 years, making it the number one cause of chronic pain in pets.

If you notice your pet showing any of the signs below, or you're concerned that your pet might be in pain, give us a call today.

You can also self-assess with the document link below that is kindly provided by the team at Canine Arthritis Resources and Education (CARE).

I am delighted to introduce you to NQ Vets Mobile's new veterinarian Dr Taylah Burgess!

Taylah’s love of animals originates back to her days growing up in Brisbane where she was lucky enough to have dogs, cats and a little Arabian pony. After working as a Jillaroo in Central Queensland, she moved to Townsville to pursue her passion for being a Veterinarian at JCU.

Since graduation Taylah has worked in Far North Queensland in rural practice, however her love for the Townsville region has brought her back to town!
Taylah has an emphasis on fear-free, pain-free health care for her patients. She enjoys the variety of pets and people she gets to meet, and is excited to be able to continue provide outstanding mobile veterinary care with NQ Vets Mobile. In her spare time, Taylah can be found camping, fishing, or hanging out with her dog Arlo.

There will be no change to the telephone number which will continue to be 0459090783 and the email address for Dr Taylah will be [email protected]. There will also be a new bank account for direct debits which will be listed on invoices.

Stay tuned for Taylah’s start date as we get the ball rolling again. An email will be sent with more information very soon.

Best wishes
Dr Alli Phillips

Hi there, Dr Alli here! I left NQ Vets Mobile in Dr Eden’s capable hands in 2021 to move to Brisbane. I locumed for a while down here, and that was ok, but I do like being able to work in an environment up to my standards of patient, client and staff care so I have just opened up a new clinic! It’s an actual bricks and mortar clinic this time and totally independent. I am in need of some google/Facebook reviews, so if any of my old clients would give a review of my care of your pets it would help a lot! Anyone who is happy to help please send a DM and I can give you the details 🥰 Pictures below of Liam the multi award winning (for obvious reasons) Townsville boy and my new clinic!

DOG PARKS 🐾 🐶

Dog parks are an excellent way to give your dog both mental and physical stimulation! However, due to the high volume of dogs visiting they can harbour many diseases if not managed well. For example, a recent study showed that 100% of dog parks that were testing in Far North Queensland tested positive for intestinal worms 😱

Things you can do to reduce the risk of your dog contracting anything from a dog park include:

▪️ Picking up after your dog 💩
▪️ Worm adult dogs every 1-3 months 🐛
▪️ Stay up to date with flea and tick prevention 💊
▪️ No pups until 2wks after final vaccinations 💉
▪️ Ensure dogs are up to date with C5 vaccine 😷
▪️ Don’t bring your dog if it is unwell 🤒

Sage and Finn visit the dog park every morning and absolutely love it! 🌳

Let’s talk ear infections: in the past few weeks there has been a surge in the amount of requests for ear consultations. The most common signs of an ear infection in dogs is head shaking, tilting the head to one side or scratching at the ears. 👂🏼🐶 🦠

If your dog is showing any of these signs it’s is best to have his/her ear swabbed by a veterinarian and examined under the microscope, as it may need some medicated drops to clear up any infection.

For all our owners that use peanut butter to administer medications or worming tablets - please be careful! 🥺 Be sure to read the labels and make sure Xylitol is not on there! 🥜

An alert being now circulated at vet clinics has warned pet owners of the potential danger.

Does your cat hunt geckos or frogs? 🐸🦎 If so it is important that it receives a tapewormer tablet every 3 months to prevent a tapeworm infection.

The “Spirometra” tapeworm carried by geckos and frogs requires a higher dose compared to other worms so be sure to read the packet carefully to ensure that your cat is getting the correct dose.
