As a trainer of dogs and horses, a coach of children and adults, and a parent I have realised that there is very little difference between the tools required for training. Afterall we are all mammals, we all come from the same.
When you look deeper into the emotional needs you realise this emotional bucket relates for all. Just the types of things within that bucket may be different eg the types of food and ways of obtaining food.
My mum has the mental capacity of a toddler these days, when her behaviour is poor and she is physically attacking you it is generally because she is unwell (and cannot tell us) or her needs are not met. Her emotional bucket is starting to run over.
I have supported a lot of animals and people over the years, I think you could pretty much stick this on the fridge as a reminder for any. We are all emotional beings. Be aware of that emotional bucket, don't just assume that the animal/person is naughty.

Do you know the real power of the walk?
The WALK - mother of all gaits
Most riders spend little time at the walk outside of "cooling out" or "warming up".
Not realizing it is the gait that BIRTHS everything you do, and REVEALS everything you may need.
"The FEI rule book once stated that it was at the pace of the walk that imperfections of dressage are most evident"
Every issue can be felt and seen through the magnifying lens of the walk.
"François de Lubersac, a master from the legendary School of Versailles in the 18th century, recognized that in dressage training, the first gait in which to train is always the walk.
Remarkably, de Lubersac, trained his horses only at the walk, and when he decided that they were ready, his horses were able to do everything at all gaits."
The walk is an anchoring gate. To teach and refine the horses balance, collectabilty, lightness, refinement, propreoception, suppleness, relaxation, lateral gymnastics, and understanding of aids... just to name a few.
There is no better gait to school these concepts then the walk. Testing things up the ladder of movement; trot and canter, and then anchoring back to the walk to fix, progress, or prepare.
The walk is the gait you "polish the stone" of all these qualities, more than any other gait.
It is the gait you come back to again and again, where the root of it all lives.
And remember, as with any gait, there is more than "just ONE walk".
Tempo, balance, stride, and frame can change in so many ways within any single gait that it lends itself to many "changes of gait within a gait", based on what that horse needs at any given moment.
In my opinion, a classical rider can easily spend an entire ride at the walk, and the higher up they ride, the more time they may spend at the walk...polishing the stone.
Mindful footfalls live in the walk.
What is your walk telling you?

It is time!
It is time to get back into our Women's Workshops and create a difference in our lives. It is time to Ignite our Light, to learn how to keep finding love, joy, happiness and peace within us regardless of what is going on in the world. To become the best self that we can be and make a positive difference for ourself and the relationships with the people around us.
This workshop is for women of all ages, from teenager up. We will undertake activities and learn tools that will help us to ignite our light within. It is also an opportunity to meet other women and create new friendships.
In the near future we will also run Women's Workshops with the horses again. To start though this one is purely online through Zoom and we will be learning about and celebrating the powerful full moon.
Call me or message me here to book a place.
I hope to see you then.
Always remember, make your day magical ✨️ 💛

This is the reason why we always teach you to fold your lead rope and to be aware that you don't end up with loops. Also to never put your lead rope over your shoulder. Accidents and reactivity can happen at any time, even with the quietest of horses.

Do you ever get used to heartbreak? 💔 I remind myself that grief icomes from the opportunity to love. I would never give up the opportunity to love. It is the epitome of emotions. It is of the highest vibration. It is the most amazing thing to feel and experience but it can also hurt so very much.
I am very sad to inform everyone that my horse soulmate Jack has been diagnosed with a serious and untreatable illness. I am forever grateful to Jack for all he has done for so many and for being my constant companion through what was the most challenging year of my life last year. He constantly worried about me and wanted to be sure I was okay. To the point that when I was out of his sight he would get anxiety. I am forever grateful to have had him in my life. His heart is enormous. ❤🙏
Jack touched the hearts of many in his lifetime. He has taught many children including to successfully compete at National level pony club competitions. Over more recent years he has been healing the hearts and lives of those who visit Lyndonlea Equine. Everybody loves Jack. For this reason I am allowing those who were attached to Jack and would like to say thank you and goodbye to him in person before he leaves this earthly plane to contact me to arrange some time.
For others who know Jack I would love it if you would write some words about your relationship with him. I will read them all to him before he goes so he knows what a huge impact he had on people in this lifetime.
There is nothing like the love of a horse.
Thank you, thank you. Thank you Jack 🤗 ❤️ 🥰

As a rider, you are a leader. Your role as a good leader is to guide, provide encouragement, build confidence, support growth and act with integrity and honesty. In turn, this all builds trust. As a good leader you should be providing an environment where the horse (or the people) feel safe otherwise trust cannot be built. Once trust is built, it can be easy to lose if you do not retain your integrity and honesty and provide safety. Mistakes can be forgiven of course if you listen, apologise and change your behaviour.
Yesterday when we were at a show, I was observing a rider in the jump ring. Her horse was under prepared and put into an extremely stressful situation. Although the jumps were small and relatively uncomplicated the horse was scared of the jumps. The rider’s remedy to this was to roar abuse loud enough for the whole showground to hear and drive the scared horse over the jumps. The thought that came to my mind was ‘if you were the horse would you trust you to keep you safe?’ Safety I think is the primary importance not only for horses but also for people too, especially children.
Always put yourself into someone else’s shoes or into the horse’s hooves and ask ‘would I be happy to be treated in that way’ or ‘what would I want from my leader in this situation'? I think all anybody wants is love, kindness and clarity. Good communication is key to positive relationships and paramount to being a good leader.
It is important to remember that every interaction is training, whether positive or negative. This is especially so in animals but also the same in children and adults. Be aware of the impact of your behaviour always. Put yourself in the other person/animal’s skin and always act from a place of love and kindness.
You can only ever know what you have learned, the importance is to do better when you know better. Being the best person that you can be is a lifelong challenge of learning and growth. Be very conscious of the leaders, teachers and mentors to whom you give your allegiance. Being identified or qualified as a leader, teacher or mentor doesn’t mean they can provide good education or leadership as many of these qualities are innate, not something you can learn in a classroom.
Always choose those you follow based on alignment with your ethics and values and never stop asking questions. If at any point in time your gut is telling you that something is not right always listen to that feeling, don’t just blindly follow what you are being told because your gut is no doubt correct.

Earlier this year I had the privilege of being asked to contribute to a book around discovering your purpose, to which I gratefully accepted. Last Thursday, this book, containing stories of how the 13 contributors discovered their purpose in life, was been launched.
I do have a passion for helping others and I hope that my chapter will inspire readers to live a passionate and purposeful life. You will certainly learn a lot more about me through my chapter.
All the proceeds from the sales of this book will go to Jewel children's home on the island of Bali. This will buy them enough food for a month.
There is both a kindle version and paperback version.
Thank you in advance for your support, it truly is greatly appreciated. Here is the link should you wish to buy a copy. The kindle version is only 1/3 the price of a cup of coffee and provides so much support for the children.

Dinner time!
In our clinics you would have noticed that we focus a lot on getting your horse to stand still in their own space. This is why!
If you have done something that increases anxieties slightly, this is a great exercise to practice to bring your horse back down and relax. Give them a chance to think, process and be in a better mindset to focus again. Give it a try, let us know how you go!
When you don't get picked but don't want to be left out 💙
So important to teach your horse to be able to stop, relax and switch off. A practical skill for many situations, standing tied up being one of them!
Sonny was struggling with not being on alert, so I was super impressed with this ❤️
There is nothing like spending time and connecting with our cattle at Lyndonlea. They are something special that really touch the soul.
When you miss the feed call 🤣
~Tuesday Tip~
•Take time out of your training session with your horse to do something they like
• Like any relationship it is about give and take, with your horse is no different
• Take note of what they like: scratches, a few minutes break, do tricks, a pick on the grass
Do you know what your horse likes to do?
Do you already implement this? If so what differences do you notice?
* With Smurf I notice he is a lot more relaxed in the training sessions and more attentive!
Let us know also if you have a try of this!
Another tip ready for next Tuesday, so keep an eye out 😎
We have availability for lessons during the week. Whether you need some guidance on the ground or in the saddle we can help 😊

Horses are definitely a girl's best friend!
Love this guy so much. His teeth don't work so well anymore so we feed him twice a day in the house yard as all the horses boss him. He knows he gets fed there and doesn't even come through the open gate, just keeps waiting. Love you Jack ❤
Taste test approved.
No shortage of kisses at Lyndonlea.
Cuteness overload ❤
Miss Bee has developed into such a beautiful girl. Such a kind and sensible nature. She has been drenched with pellets in her feed but last night she had a stress free tube drench. She has potential adopters coming to look at her next week. Good luck Bee.
Lyndonlea has a number of horses here at the moment looking for their new forever homes ranging from companion horses through to ridden horses for capable to experienced riders. More information will be posted over the next few weeks.
Lots of excitement in the paddocks as the cool starts to hit.

About our services...
Lyndonlea Equine is a mother daughter duo, Nerida and Ellen. Located Bungendore, NSW. The focus of our business is to develop and improve the relationship between horses and humans.
We have trained under Colleen Kelly of the International Society of Rider Biomechanics to gain our Level 1 in Rider Biomechanics. This has taught us so much about the importance of position, how it effects the horse and improves balance making you safer in the saddle. Riding lessons have a basis of Rider Biomechanics, this is where a lot of our passion lies. Lessons are available for all levels of rider from beginner to more experienced, on your horse or one of the Lyndonlea horses.
Having fun with your horse is a priority and encouraged at Lyndonlea. It is important to remember that you don’t have to ride a horse to enjoy their company and the benefits that horses provide us. Come and learn how to care and be safe around horses, hang out with the Lyndonlea herd or have fun playing with obstacles on the ground.
We provide horse training, whether it be groundwork, starting under saddle, training, sales prep or lessons with your horse (we can help you start your own horse too). Our methods are kind, we want to work with the horse rather than against it. Our aim is to provide a partnership with the horse so we are able to get the best results out of them. Clicker training is also a highly effective part of our training, with which we have had incredible results.
Lyndonlea Equine is the proud home of Maverick - the miniature horse (this is his page). Maverick visits nursing homes and various events in the Canberra region. He loves to brighten the lives of others and with his incredible personality he does this with ease. Maverick is available for visits.
Our farm is such a peaceful getaway, so we have decided to open it for farm visits, for others to experience what we do at Lyndonlea Equine and the animals we look after. Activities include feeding and spending time with the horses and cows, feeding the chooks and collecting eggs.
Soon to come at Lyndonlea Equine... Equine Assisted Learning.
