SNAKE BITES :-

Your pet will need urgent treatment and Treatment involves an infusion of snake anti-venom, intravenous fluids & pain relief. A snake bite can be treated and the quicker treatment begins the more successful the outcome.

What to do if your pet is bitten:-

Remain calm and don’t panic. Keeping calm will soothe your pet and help minimise their distress and movement.
Apply a pressure immobilisation bandage if possible (similar first aid techniques as recommended for people), but do not use a tourniquet or restrict blood flow. Do not try to look for a bite mark or clean the bite site with anything.
Keep your pet calm and quiet, movement helps the venom spread around the lymphatic system, so the less they move, the more time you have.
Carry your pet to the car, do not allow your pet to walk if you can help it. Again, any restriction of movement helps.
Transport your pet to a vet immediately, and if possible, call the clinic to let them know you are on the way. They may also provide additional instructions, and be prepared for your arrival.

Symptoms can include:

Dilated pupils
Weakness in hind legs
Trembling
Drooling
Pale gums
Pacing around anxiously
Restlessness
Difficulty breathing
Vomiting
Panting
Collapse straight after being bitten, and then act normally for a period of time
Become comatose / unconscious
Bleeding from nose, mouth, bite site
Sudden death

When people began allowing subjective emotions to overrule objective reality, dogs began falling more and more into a behaviourally and psychologically chaotic reality.

When it was considered that conditioning your dog to "NO" should not be used as a negative marker, to indicate that the current behaviour should cease immediately, people began losing control of their dogs respect and behaviour. When saying "no" was considered abusive, dogs being psychologically and behaviourally unstable was justified as the new norm.

When they decided there should not be a negative consequence for dangerous or unruly behaviour, but rather the behaviour be ignored, or redirected onto an acceptable behaviour without their being a consequence for the initial behaviour, dog owners began, in many cases, to unintentionally reinforce the behaviours they were indeed wanting to stop. And all because pairing a negative consequence was too emotionally difficult to accept, because they were now being judged as not good dog owners due to the emotional sensitivities of others directing them.

When the line between acceptable punishment and abuse became more and more blurred due to emotions becoming more and more fragile, is when our dogs began to suffer from a lack of proper natural guidance.

When the emotionally weak decided that mother nature has had it wrong for millions of years (based purely on emotional sensitivities and not on objective reality) and removed the natural learning principles of how an animal learns to quickly avoid a dangerous situation or cease an unacceptable or dangerous behaviour, is when in the majority of cases, dog ownership became more challenging than a pleasure. It is when we started seeing more and more dogs being dumped in rescues and shelters, when we started forcing more and more dogs onto dangerous psychotropic medications, and sadly, more and more dogs killed due to unacceptable or dangerous behaviours. And yes, all because it was the dogs fault, or it had some chemical imbalance or brain disease, rather than accepting we lost our way in how we raise and train our dogs....

Vicki: At four years of age, Lisa has been desexed. The decision was agonising! There are many documented detrimental effects of desexing, particularly early desexing and currently there is insufficient research to know exactly why. At the time of desexing, Lisa was implanted with a slow release Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone (GnRH) analogue, which I hope will counter-act the detrimental effects of desexing. Read my thoughts in regard to this decision here:https://s3.amazonaws.com/kajabi-storefronts-production/sites/2147500499/themes/2149926327/downloads/KjXT4ILSdWJkTFzGTLaP_De-Sexing_Lisa_45_.pdf

Are you unsure about desexing your dog? Did you know there is a reversible alternative to surgical castration? Medical castration is a non-surgical solution for desexing male dogs

Dear Dog Owners,

This week I have seen post after post after post on the veterinary social media pages about the struggle with larger breed dogs that are undisciplined and fearful and trying to bite at staff and veterinarians. Half of the posts stated that they, the vet, were going to stop seeing any large breed dogs, some of them said that they were going to fire all clients who had dogs that were not well controlled, others said that they were starting to refuse service to dogs that growled or tried to bite or got freaked out when they tried to examine them. Clients, this is a huge problem and it is your problem and let's be real, it is your fault.

Dogs are NOT children or humans and we need to stop treating them like they are. They are animals! They do not learn by being coddled and babied and allowed to get away with whatever they feel like doing. It does not work that way in the animal kingdom. If you are a little s**t of a dog your mom or some older dog is going to bite your head off to teach you! Once that puppy leaves its mom, you now become the teacher and trainer of what is and what is not acceptable behavior and if you don't, you and you alone are ruining your dog!

Dogs need discipline! They are like your kids! They need you to teach them, to train them, to discipline them so they learn what is and what is not acceptable. I can not tell you the number of times I have been in an exam room and a dog is growling at me and the owner does nothing. In fact, often times they pull back from the dog and they always get that sheepish look and often will say, “he doesn’t bite.” The hell he doesn’t bite! He is a dog, he bites and he is going to bite me because you have not shown him who is boss and he has no fear of humans and he has no idea that being a jerk is not allowed.

Please, if you love your dog, do your job and discipline them, train them, show them the proper way to behave and make sure they know that being a jerk gets them in trouble. If you do not, you will not be able to find a vet to help them when they are in need and that will be your fault and not the vets fault. No where in our oath does it say that we have to subject ourselves to being bitten by someones dog because they treated it like a human and felt sorry for it and never disciplined it and so it now has no respect for humans and bites. If you don’t start being a responsible pet owner, your dog is not going to be seen and you do not want that to happen.

Do not let your dog be the top dog in your house! It is not fair to them and it is not fair to us in the veterinary profession when we have to fear for our safety in order to try and help them when they are sick.

Teach them to be nice, take them to uncomfortable places, make sure they know that humans are the big dog in the relationship, that does not mean you beat them that means you show them that you are the boss by not allowing them to be jerks and get away with behaviors that they shouldn’t. Your dogs life and health depend on you being a good dog owner and raising them to be good dogs.

Sincerely,
Dr Debbie and Every Vet

STOP and think about how you’re voting.

NO INTERSTATE DOG & CAT SALES - PENALISED IF YOU ADVERTISE

Look behind the policy – don’t just take it at face value – often there is a lot it is not telling you.

Go to the Party website and seek out the full policy documentation – not just a glossy headline. Look at the motives and their proposed solutions, then think – what aren’t they telling me?

⚠️ 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗧𝗧𝗬 𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘 𝗣𝗨𝗣𝗣𝗬 𝗣𝗘𝗘𝗣𝗦…

💭 I need y’all to do me a solid:

⛔️ Stop expecting 3, 4, 5mo puppies to do extended ‘stays’;

✅ Consider that learning specific skills is far, far less important than developing a strong desire in your pup to work with you - it’s all about desire, motivation, and engagement;

⛔️ Avoid teaching your pup that any and all dogs it encounters are an opportunity for play;

✅ Understand that pups are just like toddlers - they have short attention spans and are all about ‘what’s in it for them’;

⛔️ Know that just because your last dog did or didn’t do something, it has ZERO bearing on how your new pup should behave;

✅ Remember that it’s completely typical for pups to bite, chew, bark, growl and jump on you;

⛔️ Keep it clear in your mind that your old dog may help your pup learn some new routines (for better or worse) but she won’t teach that pup how to ‘behave’;

✅ Invest significant effort in making sure your pup spends plenty of time completely alone;

⛔️ Change your vet if they tell you to keep your dog inside until it’s had all it’s shots, and avoid purchasing from a breeder that suggests the same;

✅ Get your puppy out of the house to experience the wider world without your older dog to develop it’s self reliance and independence;

⛔️ Don’t give your pup all it’s food from a bowl - give it about 1/3 of its food in a bowl for free, and feed the remaining 2/3 as part of your training and development work;

✅ First assume that if your pup isn’t paying attention to you in the way you wish, then he considers you boring AF and/or your expectations are unrealistic.

💡 If you guys can remember this stuff you’ll be much less likely to need my help later in life, and your dog has the best chance of developing to it’s full potential.

🙏 Please, and of course thank you.

We are massive advocates for dog and child safety.
While I agree that no not every dogs gets upset and stressed it doesn’t mean we allow our kids to disrespect our dogs, hurt them, jump on or pull at them and annoy them.
We must always teach our kids to respect their space. We love our dogs we don’t want to set them up for failure ❤️❤️❤️

Please also don’t post we do it and our kids are fine. That’s called survivor mentality and can be so dangerous to give people a false belief that all dogs are ok!!
