An important announcement from CVES

Dear visitors and clients!

As COVID numbers have been rapidly increasing in Canberra and surrounds, our team has suffered an impact from this process. Unfortunately, multiple team members of CVES have been affected by the virus.

While we are still open and functioning over the weekend to ensure we can serve the community and help those in need, we are understaffed across all our departments.

What does it mean for you if you have to present to our clinic?

If your animal is experiencing an emergency or needs to be transferred to our clinic over the weekend for hospital care AND is deemed stable after being triaged you might have to wait for a consultation. As we will have minimal staffing levels this weekend, we will do our best at being efficient and seeing everyone in a timely manner. Yet, due to unpredictable nature of emergency, if we have a lot of critical patients in hospital, all stable patients and their families will have to wait. During this time our team will have to tend to the needs of those who won't be able to remain stable without emergency treatments.

We understand how stressful emergencies and pet sickness can be. Our aim is to help you in your time of need. It is important that everyone treats our compassionate client care representatives, caring nurses and hard working veterinarians with respect.

We ask you to please call upfront on 6225 7257 as we will be able to provide you an idea of wait times and current workload.

We apologise for any inconvenience and sincerely hope you and your furry babies have a great weekend.

Sincerely,
Canberra Veterinary Emergency Service team.

Exciting News!

Our website is getting an upgrade! Our colours are changing and we will have a new logo!
This is a very exciting change for all of us here at The Friendly Petsitters. We have decided to make these changes because we wanted to bring the feel of our brand inline with what we stand for, and that is having your pets comfortable in their own home. We feel the new colours help represent a home and safe feel which we strive to provide through our care of your pets whilst you are away.

With the website change we are also Introducing our new pet mascots, these pets you will see around on our website and any future advertisements from us. We will be introducing the new mascots over the next couple of weeks!

As transitioning these changes takes time, we would like to inform everyone that our website and client portal will be down on the 28th and possibly 29th of October. This means you will not be able to access either of these on those dates and we will inform everyone once the website and the portal are up and running again.
For anyone with bookings running on those dates, your petsitter will contact you directly via text or email with their check-in report and photos.
If you are needing to book an appointment during that time, or need to contact us for any reason. Please contact us on:
Txt/phone: 0413729947
Email: [email protected]

Wishing you a pawsome day!

This has some great information to read through in regards to emergencies. As Petsitters we do our best to ensure an emergency vet visit isn’t needed, but sometimes things happen! So it is best we have all the information and action plan going in.

We will be adding more details on the New Client Portal to cover all of these useful points for you to fill out. If you could please have your answers ready for your Meet and Greet, when your petsitter asks.

Let’s work together to make sure your pet has the safest, healthiest and fun time whilst you are away.

Wags and Squarks,
The Friendly Petsitters Team

Even though emergencies are impossible to predict, we all have a power of preparing ourselves for a possibility of such situations. This is especially important before you go on a holiday and leave your pets in care of someone else.

As an after-hours ECC clinic we see a lot of emergencies presenting with not actual legal owners but rather someone who is taking care of the fur baby while actual family is away and may be non-contactable. To ensure that veterinarians and caretakers act according to your wishes as a pet owner there are a few very important topics we would recommend you to discuss with your pet sitters:

1. CPR status. We know this might be a very scary thing to think about. But in state of emergency every second matters. If your pet sitter knows the answer straight away it gives emergency workers opportunity to act promptly and follow your wishes. Most typical options for such situations will include “Yes”, “No” or “At Vet’s Discretion”.

2. Your budget. Even if you are not contactable straight away, no veterinarians will stand around and do nothing. In case of presenting with emergency, your pet will be stabilised and supported throughout the way. But when it comes to long-term support and care, everyone wants to act according to family’s wishes. Discuss these matters and empower your pet sitter to help your animal while you are away.

3. Emergency Contacts. Find a family member or a friend who won’t be going with you yet knows your pet well enough to make decisions on your behalf if you are not contactable.

4. Allergies. It is important for veterinarians to know which medications and foods we can provide to pets if we need to care for them while you are not there.

5. GP practice of choice. Notify your pet sitters who is your regular vet practice so emergency clinics and GP vets can communicate efficiently about your pet’s care while you are away.

6. Hardcopy of medical history. In case of emergency it will give veterinarians a much better idea of how to work out the best treatment plan for your pet.

7. Any other information. Each fur baby and their story are unique and there is no such thing as too much information when it comes to preparations. Make sure all little bits and pieces are discussed.

Hopefully these few steps will help you prepare for a great holiday and have your pet safe at home.

Edited post; our closure will unfortunately remain until the 9th of August.
Public announcement

Animal Referral Hospital Emergency Department will regretfully be closing to primary consultations from Friday 16 July until Monday the 9th of August. This decision has been hard to make however, due to the increase in demand to our hospital and a national veterinarian shortage we will close to rest our team. In-hospital patients and transfers from regular vets will still be accommodated during this period.

During the last 18 months, the vet industry has had an increase in demand with the national vet shortage. Everyone working in the industry has placed patient care as a high priority and worked around the clock to keep doors open and patients seen. We at ARH Canberra have had to make a hard decision to rest our team and place their wellbeing first.
We thank our team for their support and commitment to patient care.

Our colleagues at CVES in Gungahlin will be open during this time and we ask for your patience as they will be experiencing high demands. We thank CVES and other Veterinary clinics for their support and care of patients in the community and to our clients for your ongoing support.
Our referral hospital is operating as usual during this period.

Warm regards,

ARH team.
