When it’s Monday morning, but the vet asks you to get on the scales 🥱💛
This lovely cockatiel has gone missing from his family who are holidaying in Gloucester! He is very friendly, very talkative and very missed 😢
Let us know if you happen to see him around so we can reunite them and they can (hopefully) head home today 🦜
How cool are python x-rays! 🩻🐍 ⭐️
This guy was checked over today and radiographed after an altercation with a car yesterday, Can you spot his lunch 🙈
Patient: Ticky Trixie 😼
Breed: Domestic short hair
Progress: With everyone’s help we found an additional THREE ticks on Trixie!! She’s feeling so much better now and her paralysis has improved so much already! If she continues like this she will be ready for discharge tomorrow 🙌
Hospital update 👩⚕️
Patient: Betsy Barrel 🐮
Progress: Betsy safely delivered a little Bull calf (again and again and again!), while there was some tearing to her uterus during delivery, we have stitched this up and are confident that Betsy will make a full recovery. She is already bonding well with her little man 🐮 🥰
Hospital update 👩⚕️
Patient: Ted 🧸
Breed: Domestic Short Haired Bear
Progress:
Ted underwent 4 hours of surgery this morning, but we are thrilled to report we have just done some X-rays and ultrasound and all freddos and jelly beans have been removed from his belly! He has his cone on and is almost ready for discharge! Well done to allllll of our surgeons today! Ted was in very safe hands 🙌 🥰
Sun is (sort of out), sausages are sizzling, churros and cupcakes are sweettttt!!
Ted’s been on the surgery table all morning, and even though we’ve got plenty of choccies out there’s still some that we need to get out 🙈
Betsy’s calf is being delivered 🐮 we’ve got goats and calves and rabbits to cuddle 🥰
Hospital Update 👩⚕️
Name: Betsy Barrel 🐮
Breed: Holstein
Presenting complaint: Betsy is due to calve TOMORROW, we have just done our last night checks (by torch light) and she is progressing well. Starting to dilate normally. The calf appears to be alive, but we are worried that it is coming in breech position and she will need assistance… we will keep her hospitalised overnight and will be intervening from 10am if she hasn’t progressed any further 🤞we get some strong calf pullers to help Betsy out tomorrow 💪🤠
🧸🤕
Hospital update 👩⚕️
Name: Ted 🧸
Breed: Domestic short haired Bear
Presenting complaint: Ted are a WHOLE bag of Freddo’s and Jelly Beans this afternoon, he has been stabilised and hospitalised but if he doesn’t pass them overnight (which is unlikely) he WILL need surgery tomorrow 🔪
We need the help of all the budding surgeons we can get to help explore Teddy’s abdomen and make him better tomorrow! ( We are very confident the wrapping will stand up to Teddies stomach acid and you will get a tasty treat for your efforts 🙈)

We are getting serious boy band vibes from these three 🕺🕺🕺
Name suggestions please 😼
Happy world Vet Day to these amazing ladies 💪💃⭐️
Rural Mixed Practice is one of the more challenging fields in the Veterinary World- with our Vets having to be experts in literally ALL creatures great and small! There can be very long days, with long drives, there can be tiny little kittens and great whopping bulls! There can be endless phone calls and surgeries to scrub in for, but our ladies always give it their all, with smiles on their faces, never ending curiosity, great senses of humour and endless compassion 💫
We are so blessed to have an amazing team of Vets in Clare, Alex, Emma, Robin and Ashleigh, thank you ladies, for all that you do 💛
Thanks so much to Tyson from The Vet Nurse Project for conducting a super interesting and engaging training session for our whole team last week! We love learning and making sure we are constantly striving to improve how we look after your babies 😎 🤩 🐾
We have a stray pug who was found at Jacks road and a Mini Foxi/ terrier who was found along Sheddon Close both feeling very lost and a bit sad and sorry for themselves 🐾🐾
We have had a white and grey, female lost dog brought in from Barrington. Please contact us if you have any information 🐾🐾
Can you believe we have been in our new clinic for 12 months already 🤩🤩
We would love to invite you all along to help us celebrate with an open day and paw-ty on the 4th May!! 🎈
There will be plenty of interactive displays for the whole family, giveaways, prizes, a petting farm, face painting, BBQ and coffee!
We are very excited to show off our amazing facilities and celebrate with you all!! 🎉😍🐾
🐢💨
Please keep an eye out for turtles on the road with this wet weather that’s forcast over the next few days! We’ve already noticed a lot out!!
Turtles shells are made of bone and have same blood and nerve supply as any other bone or tissue in their (or our body) so damage to them, especially breaks, are very painful!
If you find a turtle, pop them in a box with a moistened towel, pop them in a calm, dark spot and let us know. We can assess and treat them and hopefully get them back out in the wild as soon as it’s safe to do so 💚
Two very friendly, unmicrochipped, lady dogs have been found hanging around at Cobark Lookout in the Barrington Tops, we have them here but they would love to be reunited with their families 🐾🐶
It’s the end of an era for many cat owners with Ashleigh vaccinating the last litter of kittens for Marsia from Avon Cattery this morning 😿🩵
We have loved getting to play with Marsia’s kittens and cats over the last 20years +, they are always so beautiful, well kept and so well natured!
Thankfully we will still get to see a number of her cats that are sprinkled through the region in their forever homes 😻 We wish Marsia well with this next stage of her life and would like to thank her for her dedication to the cats she has bred in her time 🩵🐾
Easter has come early 🐣🐣😍
If anyone is missing a Guinea pig near the school please contact us on 6558 1504 🐹🐹
In the animal kingdom the woman is a force to be reckoned with- she’s strong, she’s tenacious, she’s intuitive, she’s the mover and shaker. She’s empathetic, she’s resourceful and she’s beautiful inside and out. She’s empowering, she’s intelligent and she’s determined and it’s no different here at Gloucester Vets ✨ I’m beyond proud of our ladies and what we achieve everyday 💛
Happy international women’s day to all💪🏼💃🏽
(Also thanks for the women and for our morning tea 😍)
The freshest little sausages, squeaking their way into the world after an emergency ceaser this evening 🤗💛🫶🏼
We are so excited to now be able to offer PORTABLE LARGE ANIMAL RADIOGRAPHY SERVICES 💪🏼🦴🐴
Emma had the opportunity to test her new X-ray machine out on ‘Chad’ who was the perfect patient 🐴⭐️
We were thrilled with the images and how easy it was to use! It really will allow us to be able to fully work up a whole extra spectrum of large animal cases, especially all things lameness! So let us know if you have a troublesome pony as Emma is very keen to X-ray all of the horses (and donkeys, cows and goats) she can! 🐎
Here’s Emma Swilks of Gloucester District Vets taking delivery of a new RAD-X 60G Soft Case, Porta 100HF and all the accessories to make up a fully mobile DR system.
Emma had a list of patients from Gloucester to Failford waiting for X-rays, so she was champing at the bit for Jim to get her trained and ready to go. And now she’s off!

With heavy hearts we would like to announce that we are looking for a new home for Cynthia 🥺
Cynthia has been with us for the better part of the last twelve months and we have loved every fluff filled minute of it! However, in the last few months she has started to let us know she is not so happy in the constant hospital setting- with the continual comings and goings of patients and the general buzz of the place.
She loves a snuggle, is very affectionate and would love nothing more than having a consistent lap to cuddle up on! While this has not been an easy decision for us and while we will miss her greatly, we know that she will make the perfect companion for a family and will flourish with the love and attention of a more ‘normal’ home life can offer 🏡
All interested parties will need to submit their interest to [email protected] outlining 3 reasons why you will be the perfect home for our baby! Applications will be heavily vetted by us all as we come to terms with what life without Cynthia might look like 🥺🥺
This little guy was found roaming near the Caravan park, he’s a very friendly little man but is not microchipped so we aren’t able to reunite him with his family! If you’re missing him do let us know

How great is this set up for some heifers struggling with Three Day Sickness on one of our local dairy farms! These heifers have been supplied with •Fresh water 💦 •Fresh hay and silage 🌾 •Great Shade ( what excellent use of a gazebo) 🏖 •An anti-inflammatory injection 💉 •A fly repellent 🪰 • A nice flat surface so they don’t end up upside down in a gully 🙃 • And coolest of all, a Float Tank!! 👙 One of the biggest complications for large animals, like cows, being recumbent for such long periods of time, is the damage it does to the muscles they are lying on. Imagine how much of a dead leg you’d have if you had 800kg of weight pushing down on your muscles, that were trapped underneath you, for hours at a time… 😫 The water in the float tank helps to support the weight of the animal and most will be able to stand as soon as they are put in, happily eating the hay or silage in the feed bin at the front, while their circulation gets going again! Once they’ve floated for a few hours the water will be drained, the front door of the tank opened up and often the cow will be able to walk out 💪🏼 essentially it’s a hydrotherapy pool for cows!! In the video here, you can see the cow in the float tank is sitting back on her haunches- the photo in the comments show her standing and eating well! While we understand not everyone is in the position to have a float tank to help manage their down cows, it’s very cool to see one in action and hopefully these girls will be back with the rest of their herd very soon 💃🏽💃🏽
