Baki came into our care after his owner sadly passed away.

He's understandably a little confused at finding himself in the shelter and can't wait to find a new home.

Baki loves people and will need them around a lot while he settles in. He likes being indoors with you. He loves toys, especially playing tug with the rope. He knows sit and drop. As you can see, he is a very happy boy.

A cat sibling may be okay, but Baki is unsure of other dogs.

Chonky beagle time!

Addison needs a temporary foster home. She has a ruptured cruciate ligament and needs a warm, loving foster family to take her in for both pre and post-surgery care.

She requires crate rest with restricted movement (no stairs!) and to follow the rehab and recovery plan given by our vets. Addison is very overweight and is on a weight loss plan that needs to be strictly followed (no treats!).

She is a LOVELY and very easy going gal and will be a great companion for someone who has time and love to give.

Please submit an application to foster via Addison's bio below or become a foster carer at: rspcavic.org/foster-care-program

๐Ÿšจ MOOSE IS HAVING SURGERY THIS WEEK ๐Ÿšจ

Can you help cover the costs of Mooseโ€™s entropion surgery and his lengthy treatments?

Please contribute here โœจdonation.rspcavic.org/moose-needs-help/donate-now

Moose is a gentle, playful Sharpei cross who was surrendered to our care through our Inspectorate at just 10 months old. Suffering from an untreated chronic skin condition, ear infection, entropion in both eyes (turned in eyelids) and parasites, heโ€™d spent most of his young life outside.

Finally, after months of extensive treatment from our vet team and animal attendants, Moose's chronic skin condition has improved. Now that itโ€™s under control and able to be managed with preventative care and ongoing medication, he is finally able to have surgery.

Entropion is a condition in which eyelids turn inwards, so that eyelashes and skin rub against the eye surface, which can cause pain and infection if left untreated. Moose has been suffering from this condition in both eyes since birth and is going into surgery to have entropion surgery performed this week.

Please will you chip in to help us raise $3,500 to cover his surgery and extensive treatment?

Moose is just one of the 214 shelter animals currently under vet care at RSPCA Victoria and just one of the many animals that have had and will need extensive, costly care in shelter. As a community-funded organisation, we canโ€™t shoulder the cost of these life-changing treatments on our own โ€“ please help us give Moose the life he deserves.

Please, make your gift here: donation.rspcavic.org/moose-needs-help/donate-now

Digger is starting to shut down in the shelter environment

He's been waiting over 100 days to be adopted and urgently needs a loving home.

Digger arrived in our care via our Inspectorate. He didn't have the best start to life and was left alone most of the time.

Despite this rough start, he's trying to be his best sweet and friendly self, but lacks life skills and understandably suffers from some anxiety.

He needs an understanding owner who can focus on his training, provide a slow exposure to the world, and establish a home life routine.

Can you be the one to help this sweet and goofy boy overcome his fear to gain confidence and trust in life again?

Beautiful bun alert!

Thumper came into our care as a stray, but has quickly proved himself to be a sweet, affectionate and social boy.

His favourite things include being with you, eating vegies, running around, playing with egg cartons and hiding in hidey holes.

He'd thrive in a mature home with space to roam and a large enclosure filled with toys, treats and fun rabbit enrichment.

Look at this Sweet Pea! ๐Ÿ˜

Sweet Pea has been in our care for over a year, getting her medical conditions under control and spending lots of time with loving foster carers to re-build her trust in people.

Now we're proud to announce Sweet Pea has grown into a much more confident and friendly kitty, and is ready to find her forever home!

Sweet Pea is a beautiful, quirky, independent and loveable girl. She has been battling obesity but loves morning zoomies and clawing her horizontal scratching post.

She's still a little shy, but just needs a patient home to allow her to blossom at her own pace.

Bingo Bango Bongo!

Terrific trio ๐Ÿฆ†๐Ÿฆ†๐Ÿฆ†
Not to be confused with Oingo Boingo (although we can't guarantee these three ducks won't form their own new wave band), Bingo Bango Bongo had a difficult start to life and are closely bonded. These besties are looking for a large farm property with pond to go home to together.

Double trouble ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ”
Solo & Mary would love a forever farm with a group of friendly hens. Sweet but shy, they also had a difficult start to life and can't wait to be part of a family to call their own.

It's piggygeddon at RSPCA Victoria!

We have over 60 guinea pigs in our care, many requiring foster care either in the future or urgently awaiting foster families now.

Guinea pigs are social, talkative and gentle creatures. They are little hairy comedians, with funny personalities and traits including 'popcorning' - the dancing, leaping and skipping they do when happy.

Can you help any of our piggy pops with a loving temporary foster home?

We provide all ongoing supplies throughout the foster period including vet care, carry cage, bedding, food, hay, bowls, litter tray and toys.

Maremma fans, this one's for you!

Do you like:
- giving pats?
- receiving smooches?
- dogs in cloud formation?

Daphne is an adorable, lovely girl. She is curious, playful and very confident (she's a cheeky one, often running away from our staff when it's bed time)!

Since coming into our care she's been learning about the world for the first time, and really needs a home who are experienced with, understand and love the Maremma breed. She has a lot to learn but her new family will be rewarded with a happy and loyal friend for life. ๐Ÿ’–

Fuji needs a foster home!

He is intelligent, he is lovely, he is chonky! He's a heavy-set husky on a weight loss journey. Arriving in our care 20kg over his ideal body weight, Fuji needs his diet and weight monitored closely.

Fuji has also just had surgery on his right knee and needs a loving foster home where he can recover, do his physio rehab and have his weight monitored.

Very calm and non-active enrichment (and snuggles!) will be great while he recovers from surgery.

We provide all ongoing supplies throughout the foster period including vet care, bedding, food, bowls and toys.

RSPCA Victoria has successfully prosecuted three Melton men, aged 19, 20, and 22 who were found guilty of animal cruelty charges after an investigation into live-baiting.

The investigation was opened after the Inspectorate received a cruelty report regarding two dogs attacking a pair of live domesticated rabbits.

RSPCA Victoria Chief Inspector Michael Stagg said this case was a shocking example of deliberate cruelty the Inspectorate investigates across the state.

โ€œNo animal deserves to suffer like this, but unfortunately these cases still occur in Victoria,โ€ Chief Inspector Stagg said.

โ€œThese dogs were trained for the specific purpose of hunting and killing live domestic animals with no regard for the overwhelming pain, suffering, and distress these animals experienced.

โ€œWe will not allow this type of senseless cruelty to go by unpunished and we urge all Victorians to report acts like this online or by phone so our Inspectors can investigate.โ€

Anyone with concerns for the welfare of an animal can contact us on 03 9224 2222 or submit a report at rspcavic.org/cruelty-report/ immediately.

Today is a very special day in our history, marking 153 years since the formation of RSPCA Victoria.

On 4 July 1871, the first ever meeting of the Victorian Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (VSPCA) was held at Assembly Hall in Collins Street.

Eighteen citizens registered as committee members, concerned for the welfare of horses in colonial Victoria at a time when they were essential for the transportation of people and goods in the colony.

A little over two weeks later, the VSPCA members found headquarters to call home, at 77 Collins Street West. They rented it for one pound per week.

That same year, the VSPCA hired the first two Inspectors ever.

Our first President was prominent Australian, and former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Sir William Foster Stawell.

We would like to say thank you to the many people and organisations that have been part of our history, helping us care for and protect animals for the past 153 years.

Jumbo didn't have the best start to life, and it's likely he had never lived in a home, been walked outside, or socialised with other dogs before.

Despite this rough start, Jumbo is SUCH A SWEETHEART! He's done surprisingly well at the shelter. He really likes people and going for walks (loves to explores, LOVES to sniff).

We're so proud of how far Jumbo has come. He is inexperienced with any aspect of home life so will need someone to understand that it's likely going to take time for him to adjust and settle in.

Working dog experience, a secure backyard in a quieter location and dedicated training will see Jumbo thrive. Already have a dog? Jumbo could use a canine role model to show him the ropes!

Your perfect pixie dream cat is here!

Pixie came into the shelter after her elderly owner went into care and could sadly no longer look after her.

She's been quite reserved at finding herself in a new environment, but we can see how much she wants to love and be loved in return.

A family who can give her time and space to settle into her new life will be rewarded with a super sweet, affectionate and cuddly lady who loves snoozing and the occasional chase of a toy.

Please pop into our Peninsula shelter Monday to Sunday 12-4pm to meet Pixie cat.

Today we would like to pay tribute to a very special member of the RSPCA Victoria family, Brian the goat, who recently trotted over the rainbow bridge to join his best friend and brother Bernie. ๐Ÿ’–

Brian came into our care 7 years ago with his brother after they were surrendered as their owner was moving house and sadly couldn't take them, but wanted them to be rehomed together.

Our Education team fell in love with their gentle personalities and quickly added them to the education program as permanent residents.

Brian was a superstar and fan favourite, who loved affectionately rubbing his head on his humans, strangers and his brothers. He was wonderful in virtual classes, almost knocking over the camera person in every class, because he'd be trying to rub his head on them asking for more pats. ๐Ÿ˜‚

He was number one on the goat hierarchy, even though he was the gentlest of them all. He will be missed by his goat friends Mikey and El, who grew up with Brian and saw him like a father, as well as the humans who got to work with him, as he was always welcoming with his toothless smile.

Brian lived to the ripe old age of 13, surrounded until the very end by lots of love, his favourite treats (bananas!), and raiding the vegetable garden one last time.

He's left a big hole in our hearts, but as he crossed the rainbow bridge we like to think he is reunited with Bernie, eating all the fruit and vegetables they want, and getting the unlimited brushes and cuddles they deserve.

Thank you Brian, for helping teach so many people about the importance of animal welfare, and for being a wonderful friend to our animals, staff, volunteers and Education team. You will be missed but never forgotten. ๐Ÿ’–

INSPECTORATE UPDATE:

RSPCA Victoriaโ€™s Major Investigations Team executed a warrant at a Diggers Rest property last week related to alleged cockfighting, with the large-scale law enforcement operation finding 48 birds.

The birds were aggressive and allegedly mutilated for the purposes of cockfighting with their combs, waddles and spurs all removed, in addition to a cockfighting pit and other cockfighting related implements being found at the property. RSPCA Victoria took surrender of all 48 birds.

Speaking about the operation, RSPCA Victoriaโ€™s Chief Inspector, Michael Stagg, said cockfighting was a barbaric practice.

โ€œI want to be clear about this, cockfighting is a blood sport. Itโ€™s barbaric, itโ€™s illegal for good reason, and RSPCA is absolutely determined to stamp it out, there is no place for cockfighting in this state,โ€ Chief Inspector Stagg said.

This investigation was the result of an anonymous community tip off, and anyone with concerns for the welfare of an animal or aware of illegal animal fighting is encouraged to contact RSPCA Victoria on 03 9224 2222 or submit a report at rspcavic.org/cruelty-report/ immediately.

Yesterday, we handed over the reins of the Warrnambool Animal Shelter to the City of Warrnambool, after operating the facility for more than 20 years.

Weโ€™re incredibly grateful to our amazing staff and wonderful volunteers who have cared for around 1,200 animals each year, providing them with vital veterinary care, food and shelter, and the best possible chance of finding their forever homes.

The care of these animals wouldnโ€™t have been possible without the dedication of these people along with the local community who have welcomed furry family members into their homes.

RSPCA Victoria will still be present in the community with our Education and Community Outreach teams working with those who need it most.

Thank you and best wishes to all our Warrnambool employees and volunteers who have made an impact on so many animals over the past two decades - you will be missed. ๐Ÿ’–

Have you attended one of our Healthy Pet Days?!

Launching late last year with our inaugural Healthy Pet Day in Hume, we've since hosted events in Brimbank, Mornington Peninsula, Wangaratta, Bendigo and Casey.

Proudly funded by our friends Petbarn Foundation, these monthly events support pet owners in need with free veterinary check-ups, expert advice and resources such as pet food, bedding and toys.

Services are completely free for local valid concession card holders, providing pets with vital health checks during the cost-of-living crisis.

Across our six events so far, we've helped a total of 243 animals with vaccinations, microchipping, parasite prevention, and health checks.

Thank you to everyone who help make Healthy Pet Days come to life, including our national nutrition partner Royal Canin, passionate Community Outreach team, generous volunteers and the local community. ๐Ÿ’–

We welcomed the passage of the bill to phase out live sheep export this week, which has now passed the House of Representatives and will next be voted on in the Senate.

Our hope is that the legislation will be passed without delay so that we can finally start moving towards a better future for Australian sheep.

Sookie has been waiting 71 days for a foster family to give her respite from the shelter.

Sweet Sookie arrived in our care in very poor condition with severe dermatitis on her back and ears. This is now well controlled and her fur is on it's way to re-growing over the affected areas. However, Sookie is very stressed in the shelter and would really benefit from being in a temporary home.

She needs to gain some weight and is on anti-anxiety medication, so requires a very experienced carer who can allow her to settle in and explore her behaviour in a home.

We provide all ongoing supplies throughout the foster period including vet care, bedding, food, bowls, litter and toys. Please submit an application to foster via Sookie's bio below or become a foster carer at: rspcavic.org/foster-care-program

Do you remember Laurell? The sweet stray that desperately needed help.

After almost a year in care, Laurell โ€“ now Suki has finally been adopted! ๐Ÿ’•

Suki first came to RSPCA Burwood in June 2023. After suffering a severe trauma, likely from a car accident, she was left with life-threatening injuries and needed immediate treatment. Her eye was bulging, her jaw fractured, and she had severe internal injuries.

Our teams in the Clinic and Shelter, along with her dedicated volunteer foster carers provided multiple surgeries and extensive care (and lots of love) for nearly an entire year, allowing her to make an amazing recovery and finally find her new home!

Suki was just one of the 6,582 cats that arrived at our shelters last financial year and over the next few months were expects thousands more. Every day, animals like Suki come into our shelters needing urgent care and treatment. Your support allows us to continue to care for each and everyone one.

Suki is now safe from the streets and living pain free in her new home. Sukiโ€™s new owner Quinn said โ€œshe settled in at home immediately and is now living her best life being friendly and is very sweet, smoochy, and leans into patsโ€. ๐Ÿ’–

EOFY is nearing with only days left until 30 June. Your tax-deductible gift today can help us bring hope and happy outcomes to thousands of animals in need.
