😢 DOLLY, the 'wastage' of breeding mums. 😢
🚧🚧 Calling out Backyard Breeders! 🚧🚧 JUST STOP! 🚧🚧
🚧🚧 We're so tired of this. So tired of your callous actions and so tired of being bombarded left and right by your puppy ads. 🚧🚧
‼️DESEX ‼️ your girls. Spend some of that tax free income you made 🤑 from her babies and take her to the vet for once in her life.
🚧🚧 Puppy buyers! 🚧🚧 BEWARE 🚧🚧
Do you know where your puppy's mother is right now?
Has she been cared for?
Are her owners going to love her when she is no longer useful? Will they provide her with adequate healthcare for life?
✍️ To get to the point I'm going to explain Dolly's life to date and you'll understand why you so often see rescuers absolutely fed up or burned out.
Dolly's rescue story begins as a stray in Western Sydney NSW. She was taken to the pound. They found a microchip - 13yrs, Silky cross Foxy female. Contact details out of date.
The repetitive theme over and over, is that nobody was ever going to come and own up to the state she was in. Nobody ever does. Dogs like Dolly are abandoned to their fate.
Her transporter brought her into care at a moment's notice. And our vets made room in their schedule to get her in asap for a top to toe exam, blood testing and treatment plan.
One look at her frail, stinking, used up body told 1000 words.
Her skin and hair - itching allover, chewed, flaking, scratch wounds, balding, stained, yeast and bacteria infested. And a smell that filled the room.
Her eyes - chronic dry-eye. Crusted, infected and so painful. Severe dry eye has been described as constantly feeling sand in your eyes.
Teeth - as usual not even the most basic of care.
Worst of all. Mammary tumours spread through both sagging chains.
Included is a quick photo of the damage inflicted by years of litters dragging her down and now a hormone driven cancer.
Marked in the red, the masses and the surgical plan.
Every gland is affected. Both sides need to be 'stripped'.
In human terms that's full body mastectomies. From chest to groin.
The first part of her surgeries begin next week. She will also be desexed and have her dental. There needs to be two parts to the chain removal. Stripping both sides at once risks skin death of the midline due to lack of circulation.
Sadly, her thin, yeast and bacteria infected skin delayed us getting a sooner start. With such major surgery, to open her up could have let disease into her bloodstream or caused the breakdown of wound healing.
Our Vets hit her with everything possible with time of the essence. Vets are truly unsung heroes.
This brings us to right now - 4th October. Finally not a mark on her skin and completely free of crust and infection. No more nauseating smell. No more inflammation.
We've just days to go until surgery. And there's currently a rescuer who is a wreck, worried about what x-rays and pathology will say about metastasis.
I'm not the only one. Dolly's story is being played out in more rescues than you can imagine.
With yet more girls still suffering invisibly in their owner's backyard.
Fortunately Dolly has no idea of how her future hangs in the balance. She's feeling better than she has in a long time.
She's plump and shiny, her eyes glisten with hope and her beautiful blonde hair is growing in. She's playful. And she constantly wags her tail complete with happy barks. If you passed Dolly in the street today you'd never suspect how dire her situation is.
Dolly is part of the SSR family and always will be, no matter what happens. Now you've read her story and looked into her eyes, I hope she is now part of your family too. ❤️
Thank you for reading this far. It's been a loooong post but one that's been in my mind since she arrived.
Have a beautiful weekend. ☀️
Dolly sends her love. 🥰
