Welcome to Cangon Stud Farm, the home of thoroughbred stallions Choistar, Nothin' Leica Dane, Sea Battle and Recapitalize. My name is Jock Mackay. Jaime and Jennifer, my parents have been successfully breeding, rearing and racing our own thoroughbreds for many years. Now we would like to share our success with our valued clients by expanding our operation and providing both short and long term bro

odmare agistment and racehorse spelling. We are owner-operators, so we care for your horses like they are our own and we are always on hand for consultation and advice. The property is only 4kms from the town of Dungog providing easy access from Sydney, Newcastle and the Hunter Valley. The Mackay family first settled the farm in 1838, and now we, the fifth generation of the Mackay family continue to add to that rich and vibrant history. Today Cangon Stud Farm comprises over 2000 acres of prime thoroughbred country ranging from undulating hills to the rich alluvial flats of the Williams River. The property has been a nursery for many successful racehorses including Group-winners He’s No Pie Eater, Miss Kariba, Katima, Whoever, Vanquished and the recent stakes-winning 2YO Golden Millennium, all bred and reared by the Mackay family.

NEWS: A “natural 2YO from a fast family’’ topped today’s HTBA Yearling Sale at Riverside in a result that was “far and away more’’ than the vendor was expecting.

Lot 85, a Tassort x Raahiyah c**t, sold for $150,000 to Mathew Becker’s Group 1 Bloodstock and Victorian trainer Lloyd Kennewell, who flew up to Sydney for a matter of hours today with one mission – to buy the yearling.

The c**t (pictured) was offered by Riversdale’s Nick Hodges, on behalf of his breeder Jock Mackay of Cangon Stud.

What a terrific Group 3 McNeil Stakes (1200m) win by Veight at Caulfield today. Needless to say, we are over the moon!

Veight was a Sledmere Stud & Cangon Stud Farm weanling sale purchase subsequently sold to McEvoy Mitchell Racing as a yearling. This cracking c**t is now the winner of three-of-his-four starts along with $405,490 in prizemoney. What's more, senior co-trainer Tony McEvoy is talking Caulfield Guineas and W.S. Cox Plate for this very talented 1st-crop son of Yulong Investments stallion Grunt (NZ).

It's a hugely positive way to start the Spring Carnival Racing period and we couldn't be more excited!

WANTED - Full-Time farm hand ️

Cangon Stud is a thoroughbred breeding operation as well as cattle. Situated just 2 1/2 hours from Sydney and 1 hour from Newcastle.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking farm hand to assist with the daily duties on the thoroughbred side as well as farming.

Previous experience working with thoroughbreds is a must, as well as a strong farming background.

The successful applicant will be rewarded with a competitive salary, accommodation and will work with a professional and friendly team.
