Tegan has trained three border terriers to Earthdog Champion level, and has titled thirteen dogs in total in earthdog. She also partakes in other sports like tracking, dances with dogs, and conformation.

Our mobile home grooming service, hand stripping border terriers, is offered at $100 for the first hour and $50 for every hour after that.

Today, I worked on my own dog, Tex, for exactly one hour and this was the result. (I have a preference for him keeping more hair on his tail and head so I have mostly left those.) Keeping in mind that Tex has a good coat and is very compliant for grooming, so the process is easier and quicker for him than some dogs.

We have availability in the coming weeks for hand stripping so please get in touch if you have an interest in booking in your own dog.

Just a reminder that you only have two days left to register for Helping Harvey! This is a six week 'watch and learn' package to see how we work with reactive dogs to improve their behaviour around other dogs. If you have a dog that barks and lunges at other dogs on walks, this is the perfect cluster of sessions for you to learn from.

Online Reactivity 'Watch and Learn' Training

For something a little different: I am offering an online experience where you can watch me train a dog 'out of' reactivity. Harvey will be coming to stay form August 25 and I plan to video my work with him for 6 weeks, and allow ten people to come along and watch how we do it.

How it works:
We will be undertaking an intensive six week program with Harvey to improve his behaviour when on lead around other dogs. We will be filming our progress and sharing it with ten participants through WhatsApp (a phone based applicatino). Participants are welcome to ask questions on the videos, with the view to provide them with skills to work with their own dogs' reactivity.

What's included:
Included for participants is:
3 or more progress videos per week
2 or more explaination videos per week
The ability to ask Tegan questions regarding those videos, through the WhatsApp group

These videos are available any time (i.e. there is no need to watch 'live'), and are available for participants internationally.

Training will include:
-Engagement
-Loose lead walking around distractions (including other dogs)
-Tricks like spin and touch and their use in reactivity
-Desensitisation and classical conditioning to dogs and car rides
-Tolerance to grooming (hand-stripping)

NEW MOBILE GROOMING SERVICE

I am now open for bookings for hand stripping border terriers in Adelaide and the greater region. I come to you and strip dogs in their own home.

I have owned border terriers for 20 years and have always stripped my own dogs, plus have stripped numerous border terriers for the public on an adhoc-basis.

I bring everything that I need (grooming table, grooming arm, tools, and finger & thumb!) - all I need is a space under a veranda or where you don't mind dog hair going everywhere! (Evening bookings also require decent lighting.)

There are no travel costs for owners in: Adelaide Plains Council, Wakefield Regional Council, Clare & Gilbert Valleys Council, Light Regional Council, Barossa Council, Town of Gawler, City of Playford, City of Tea Tree Gully, and City of Salisbury.
Travel costs apply for those outside of this area.

Hand-stripping is available for $100 for the first hour and then $50 for every hour after that. Discounts apply for multiple dogs. For dogs that are intolerant of grooming, training and desensitisation is also available.

We were delighted to do a home consult with Lakoda (pictured) and Scout today, all the way up in Laura! We happily do home consults across the mid-north and metropolitan Adelaide.

Lakoda and Scout have recently decided they don't want to get in the car anymore and so we worked through strategies to show them that the car was worth jumping into, plus explicity training feet up behaviour.

It was lovely to meet and work with "Bailey" yesterday. Bailey's people have described him as 'stubborn', so we worked on building up value on those things Bailey doesn't always want to do. His people have a few training exercises to work on before I come back to help with leash walking. 🥰

While crossbreed dogs can make fine dogs, the huge demand often results in unscrupulous breeding.

Breeding animals should be health tested for conditions relevant to their breed/s, like hip dysplasia and progressive retinal atrophy (PRA).

Unfortunately, many people just want a puppy and so don't check that the parents of their puppy have all the necessary clearances. This leads to breeders continuing to breed unhealthy animals, and heartache for many families as their dog matures.

🐩 A new study has revealed a huge demand for designer crossbreed dogs in the UK between 2019 and 2020, believing they are more hypoallergenic, generally healthy, easy to train and good with children, which could be misconceptions based on current evidence. The new study also suggests that this increased demand poses a significant risk to the health and welfare of these designer dogs due to high demand leading to poor breeding and to buyers unintentionally supporting puppy farming and illegal importation of underage puppies.

So many people think getting a puppy is simply about getting a puppy! But the reality is what a breeder puts into their puppy to make them the best they can be is really important.

It blows my mind that so many people don’t know that puppies are not blank slates. Both nature and nurture matters as a puppy grows to an adult dog. All four L.E.G.S. matter: Learning (all their learning history), Environment (their physical surroundings and social surroundings), Genetics (both their genetics and epigenetics contribute), and Self (their unique internal experience and physical condition, including any disabilities). Even if you socialize a puppy correctly and carefully, he can still grow up to be a highly sensitive dog if his genetics predisposed him to be so. I love working with highly sensitive dogs and their guardians, and it always saddens me when people think they “did something” to “make” their dog this way. People always assure me they have never hurt their dog and raised them carefully, so why is their dog so shy or reactive? What did they do?? People forget to take into consideration all of the other things that go into a dog’s temperament. You weren’t born as a blank slate… you probably have some things in common with your mother and/or your father that would not have changed had you been raised in different conditions. If you adopted your puppy and never met her parents, nor have knowledge of the conditions in which she was born, you just don’t know the full story. I always tell the guardians of highly sensitive dogs that their dog’s sensitivity is one side of the coin, and the high intelligence such dogs have is the other side of that same coin. We had the pleasure of working with Gidget and George the other week. The pair are reactive to dogs and people and have pulled over their humans before. :( We worked on lead manners and teaching the dogs new ways to respond to approaching stimuli. They both did great!

Safe Pets Safe Families - Keeping people & pets together are urgently seeking a foster care placement for Kudo. If you have thought about fostering a dog, please get in touch with SPSF. As a rescue we love dogs that stay in their own homes! And that's what SPSF is trying to secure for Kudo.

****in foster care****This beautiful boy has been in emergency boarding at RSPCA for 70 days which is way too long... his time is up and he will need to be surrendered if can't find him a foster 😭
Even though the boarding is discounted it's still unaffordable for the client so we subsidised it. But it's time that matters now not money, it's just not healthy on the animal's mental state and he is struggling.

A young homeless girl, who loves her dog and doesn't want to lose him but has no options left. Even if a rescue can take to re-home would be nice, please reach out.

We have tried everything and we feel just awful 😭

Smart and cute! I was thrilled to hang out with little Geordi yesterday. Geordi's barking was wearing thin on his people, so we walked through strategies to manage his barking, train alternative behaviours, and change his feelings about people walking past his house.

Had a super fun consult with Eevee and Teddy tonight! Both dogs can be reactive with other dogs, so we worked on loose lead walking and focus on the handler. Both dogs did great!
